Odd question: Foresee in a setting conversion

By Blackbird888, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

Say, hypothetically, you're transferring Force and Destiny to a more pure sci-fi setting. In this setting there is no seeing the future and the more fantastical elements, what would be a good way to transfer Foresee? Time travel is also out.

Force powers become something like cybernetic/nanomachine/plasmid technobabble.

If the power doesn't fit the setting then does it need to be available as an option?

The left section of Foresee that deals with initiative can be explained by "luck and good timing". The particular character always happens to be in the right place at the right time.

But precognition? That's a tough one. Pure sci-fi just doesn't have that, and the normal technology imagined in those settings doesn't have ways to replicate it. It still could be explained as "gut feeling" and just keep the narrative within that scope.

Rather than "visions" the character "feels like that's what is going to happen"

True, I could just throw it out, but half the bulk of the tree is pretty useful and can be explained with sufficiently advanced tech, it's just that right column and the basic power. The "gut feeling" explanation is okay as far as the basic power goes, it just goes wonky when your "bad feeling" lasts for days and starts including pretty precise details.

Perhaps remove the right column?

Or what about:

"You have hacked yourself access to an exceptional data analysis system. It is ble to take hundreds of thousands of data points, such as habits and daily routines of individuals, schedules, traffic data, potential events of interest and other personal data. It then analyses this information and predicts likely times and places for events to occur."

What I'm imagining is someone hacking Google and Apple to access their broad personal data they hold on anyone using their services, then having the ability to analyse huge volumes of that data, such as every calendar of every person in a city.

Now obviously this is different to what the original power was written to do, but it would effectively allow PC's to accurately predict where NPC's may be, and what they may be doing.

The initiative section of the tree is then applying that machine learning to sensor data from the local vicinity of the character and predicting likely scenarios

Actually not a bad idea. The strength and duration upgrades must be revised, but I could probably work with that.

Warde's Foresight offered me less problems, actually, as it can be interpreted as enhancing reaction time and perception to incredible levels. Combine a bit of the hacking/analysis ability, and that works fine.

Well the Strength and Duration represent improvements to the analysis code which allows for more precise predictions of events.

What about predictive algorithms? I could see a PC using a powerful computer (via Foresee) to feed in data and choose the most likely outcome, similar to RL weather modeling.
