This is the one stop shop for all the current issues the community has yet to figure out! This is a living document, so it will change over time, mainly during new wave releases and FAQs. So don't post anything here about your opinion on the content. This is a resource for players to draw their own conclusions on how cards interact. If you disagree with any content here, click on the associated link and go discuss it there. If you were one of the original combatants for these topics, drop a line and tell me how to alter your point of view on the topic. I will be double checking for references. Just want to shout out to everyone who participated in these grand debates, and yes I am copy/pasting some of the content. Nothing stated beyond this point is my opinion. I am merely the messenger.
So let's get started!
What is the timing for G-8 Experimental Projectors?
G-8 must be used before your opponent enters the Determine Course step.
- The card reads “Before an enemy ship at distance 1-5 resolves the Determine Course step, you may exhaust this card to temporarily reduce its speed by 1 to a minimum of speed 0 until the end of the maneuver.”
- Before is defined in the RRG on page 5, “A “before” effect occurs immediately before the specified event and cannot occur again for that instance of the event.”
- Therefore, G-8 must be declared before your opponent begins the Determine Course step.
G-8 can be declared at any point before the resolution of the Determine Course step.
- The resolution of the Determine Course step is when the maneuver tool is inserted into the base of the ship, so G-8 can be used before the enemy ship resolves the Determine Course step.
Can you “counter” G-8 Experimental Projectors with a Navigate Command/Token?
Yes, you can spend a Nav Dial/Token.
- G-8 temporarily drops the speed of an enemy ship by 1, so by spending a Nav Dial/Token, you increase your speed back to the original value.
Yes and no.
- G-8 temporarily drops the speed of an enemy ship by 1, and does not target the speed dial. Spending a Nav Dial/Token to increase your speed will increase your speed dial permanently, up to your max speed.
- If your ship has a max speed of 3, and your current speed is 2, you can spend a Nav Dial/Token to increase your speed to 3, but will still execute a speed 2 maneuver due to G-8.
- If your ship has a max speed of 3, and your current speed is 3, you cannot spend a Nav Dial/Token because your speed dial is already at its maximum value.
Note: This question is tied to the timing of G-8. If G-8 is triggered before you enter the Determine Course step, the player can choose to use a Nav Dial/Token after/it G-8 is used. If G-8 is triggered before the resolution of the Determine Course step, there may be a standoff between the players because they must decide if they want to use a Nav Dial/Token or to use G-8, and both of these can be used at any point in the Determine Course step.
