Magnetizing A Decimator?

By BleakSquadron, in X-Wing Painting and Modification

I've got a Decimator that has seen alot of table time. So much ao that the connection for the ship's peg is worn down. I've put alot of effort into the model, and rather than buying a new one I'd prefer to magnetize it. What's going to be the best option for this massive ship? What are the best magnets to use? If I'm able I'd rather have it able to adjust its position, due to its size. Any information would be great, thanks in advance.

It appears to me that the VT-49 has a weak peg and worse placement. After one game mine seems to be saggy and flip floppy. I will be revamping mine for magnets this week!

You know, I have the same question, but for the Ghost. I just got the Ghost last week and don't want to even think about using that wonky stand that it comes with. I'd rather magnetize it and be done with it. Any suggestions?

Magnetise the wonky stand. It's too heavy for anything else.

As I recall, both the VT-49 and the YT-2400 had loose peg problems when they were released. I wrapped a bit of scotch tape around the wedge on the peg and it seemed to solve the problem.

Same thread as above: https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/topic/131037-magnets-how-they-work-for-x-wing-miniatures/?p=2109541

I used 1 big magnet and bearing where the peg one, and added small magnets and bearings where it just rests on the stand. I need to magnetize the other side of the stand now, as that part is the one that falls off now

Hmm... I'm more interested in a magnet method that would allow the ghost to swivel on the stand, though I may be asking for too much there...

You're gonna need a BIG, STRONG magnet, preferably with rubberized paint on it to ensure it doesn't swivel wily-nily. But you should try it and post your results, it's always good to have more proofs of concept!
