How would you Knight level build an ...?

By EliasWindrider, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

It's a cute idea, but one of the players wanted a wrestling-style character and I talked him out of it. The rules don't support grappling, and though I guess you can reskin it any way you want, mechanically you're just punching every round, and describing it as a hold, which doesn't feel right for me. I just doesn't sit right with me to base a character around a concept the rules don't reflect.

The closest thing to it that I've seen is the Archaeologist's 'Pin' talent, which is a neat trick for a high Athletics character.

If it were me, I'd suggest the player go for something in-universe like a ShockBoxer, which has the right martial/entertainment feeling I think.

Ha, I hadn't considered Archeologist, but it has the Well Rounded talent, it makes for a great pairing with the Charmer spec to build this character, well Lara Croft really.

There really does need to be another Specialisation with the Pin Talent, Bounty Hunter or Spy would be appropriate, or the Warrior book too I suppose.

Where are you guys? I'm in Albuquerque NM. One of my players is moving to California and we've talked about setting up a Web cam so he can keep playing.

I’m in Austin, TX. I’m already in one online game via Roll20, and that’s annoying enough for my wife that I’m not sure how much longer it will last. I’m not sure I could do another game remotely with webcams or other virtual presence technology. I don’t think my wife would tolerate that.

But PbP is something that doesn’t generate a lot of noise. It does have other problems that Roll20 or other virtual presence methods don’t have, but it is relatively noise-free.

You can choose to do strain damage or Knockdown with unarmed attack, which could easily represent a grapple. And the rules are designed to be flexible for exactly this sort of scenario. What GM would refuse a Brawler the ability to spend a Triumph or ~3 advantage to apply the Suffocating status effect to an enemy? One that they can spend an action to try and break with an opposed Brawl (or Coordination, or whatever could be used as appropriate) checl?

I needed to add some fur lined handcuffs, ahem binders, because Xenia is certainly open to kinky stuff
