So, my friend recently sold me his collection which was something like 30 ships. Naturally since the case I had barely fit what I already owned I needed a new case. I found a great tackle box with plenty of space for just about everything. The only thing is that I don't have a good spot for my upgrade cards without making some hefty modifications (this wasn't apparent until I was home). Does anyone know of cases made to hold the upgrade cards? I don't want to deal with binders and my stop gap measure is not that great.
Upgrade Card Storage
Yes, that's exactly the kind of thing I'm looking for! Now to see if I can find a Canadian supplier. Thanks!
Well, my podcast has a contest for a free one of those. It's not too late to submit, but can't be that hard to win, right?

I'm going to check that out as it seems Broken Token doesn't ship here and the one Canadian source I found was jacking the price up to almost $100
$100 for that?!?!?! That's nuts as it's $12.50 in my local store and I can buy it online for $15. Have you tried to contact Broken Token to see if they might to a special shipping order to you? I contacted them and they were pretty darn cool.
I grabbed a container from a hardware store that was the right size, although its a little bit large.
It is doing well for me so far.
Its an affordable option too, cost the equivilent of $10

I have contacted them. They gave me a list of Canadian vendors who carry their goods. I actually found one nearby with equivalent pricing. Not sure what's going on with that amazon vendor.
To get stuff from broken token I would have to order a lot more as they only ship if the order is large enough. But the Canadian vendor works perfectly.
Very cool! I knew you could find something through them as they are very nice. I'm glad you could find one affordable. They are pretty nice.
Sir Willis is the guy who makes PDF's for all the tuck boxes. He actually made a PDF for boxes to carry upgrade cards. I tend to like the more solid Broken Token, but he did make dividers. You can print them out and use them for the Broken Token box. I did it. Mine look a little rough because I usually mount all my print outs to card stock (well, similar stuff free from work). I did so....but then realized that the lid had a hard time closing due to the stiffness of the markers. So, I had to peel them off the cardstock and that messed them up. I recommend printing the book marks on regular paper and using them to tell where things are.
I don't know how many upgrade cards you have, but I have over 50 ships and I have a lot. It says you can fit in 400 cards with sleeves and 700 without. I use sleeves. The wooden separators are nice, but if I used them, I couldn't put all my cards in. So, I used the paper ones and am very happy with them. I especially like it as you can sort EPTs by point cost or crew into faction specific types of crew.
currently i just use the 4by4 card sleeves akin to baseball card holders. However as i gather more and more cards, my binder is over an inch think lol (i had to upgrade to a bigger binder recently because i exceeded the capacity of the small one).
Pilot cards stay in there fine but my upgrade cards like to fly out of the top row if i hold it even remotely upsidedown. Naturally that happens a fair bit when i grab it from the trunk of my car >.<
Been trying to find an alternative, but im not a fan of those wooden crate things for card storage. I'd like one for my templates/tournament tray usage but not for storage.
The irritation of somethings seeing a card go flying out of my binder has exceeded my joy of having an easy to access storage solution where i can find all my cards really easy lol
I'm not sure how many upgrade cards I have but it has greatly increased recently. I've got over 50 ships (can't be bothered to do an accurate count atm) but I don't use sleeves for my cards so they should all fit. I got my friend's collection for quite cheap so I'm overwhelmed with options now as he had the two factions I didn't.
I should be getting the box tomorrow or the day after so I'll post my impressions. Right now I sort my upgrades alphabetically. I might see about sorting by type now that I'll have a proper holder. It didn't go so well before but then it was just a slot in my case.
For binders I figured I update the cards too often and would have to keep moving them to accommodate new ones. That's why I stayed away from that.
I will say that before I got the Broken Token, I just used the card board boxes that FFG gave out as prize support. I had one for upgrades and 2 for Pilots. I used little rubber bands to keep the various upgrades together. It worked great....until I got so many upgrades that they wouldn't fit in the box anymore! That's when I started looking.

I'll admit that I hate binders. I played Magic the Gathering and used binders. You are always getting more cards and you are always having to re-organize. You have to sift and sort. There is generally some sort of order and I found myself constantly shifting cards in binders to make room for new cards. It was an utter nightmare and I hated it. Maybe if I was OCD than that activity would be fun for me, but I'm not. I hated it.
Then, you have to find a place to put the binders. One more thing that isn't a mini to fit somewhere or carry. Here is a picture of the top of my Plano 1374 and how I can fit everything in it. I'm very pleased with this and like to keep the space condensed.

Looking forward to your thoughts on it. Let me know if you need a link to Sir Willis' stuff, but I'm sure just googling it would bring it up. I really like the type of card markers and feel it's easier to find things.
Oh, I did go through all the upgrade cards and removed a lot of the duplicates that I really didn't think I needed. I must have had 8 or more Determination cards. I'll never use that many. I think I left one in the main stack. Things like that. There were some I rarely used, but I kept at least 1 of everything in there.
what i would love to do is what my brother did when he was into magic like...13 years ago lol.
He had cardboard sleeves that were sized just right for the magic cards to stand upright in, and just used cardboard spacers to keep them tightly packed/divided up. I might need to make it myself as finding them for the uber tiny cards we use in xwing is proving to be a problem lol.
Arts n crafts are something i do fairly commonly but i tend to avoid cardboard for various reasons.
You could look at Sir Willis' stuff. He's got a PDF for large and small sized cards. Print it on card stock and you should be good.
Where can i find this pdf?

I just googled "Sir Willis" and then went to the "Collector Box" section.

His Microhangers are pretty cool, too.
Sorry, I meant to post my response here far sooner than this but it has been a busy week. I got my box a day before a tournament which was great. I will say this, putting the thing together may have been one of the most tense moments of my life. I'm not a small person and the whole time I worried I'd snap something. But I got it all together without mishap. It is so nice having a proper container for my upgrade cards.
At this point they're still alphabetical but now that I have a proper container I might look into other sorting methods. Either way I got plenty of space left so I'll be set for quite some time to come. I would say the only thing I'm not overly fond of is the lid. Mostly the locking mechanism. It's the one thing my friends and I were not overly thrilled about. Otherwise, I'm quite glad I got it.
