VESSERY: TIE /D OR TIE /x7

By Boba Rick, in X-Wing

BAH! I can't decide which to do! Help!

/x7. Always /x7.

If he is your main guns, then x7. If he is complimenting or supporting, I'd go with xD. With his ability, he was made for xD. Toss tractor beam on him and watch aces shiver in fear.

Tie/Don't

Bess is the most effective tieDont due to his ability, but he still just dies so quickly

Maybe when we get imperial Biggs...

I really wanted to go with /D, because what is cooler than shooting twice with Target Locks.... but the two points + cannon cost is a net cost of 3-6 points. So I'm leaning towards /x7.

I think I'm going to try this.

Colonel Vessery (37) TIE Defender (35), Veteran Instincts (1), TIE/x7 (-2), Stealth Device (3)

Countess Ryad (36) TIE Defender (34), Push the Limit (3), TIE/x7 (-2), Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)

Omicron Group Pilot (27) Lambda-Class Shuttle (21), Fire-Control System (2), Tractor beam (1), Darth Vader (3)

x7, why is this even a question? :P

X7 wins for tournament play but in casual play both are viable.

/x7 is definitely better overall, but /d tractor beam is way more fun.

x7 is the safe option. Any defender with x7 will do some work, though Ryad/Stele are generally better for stand-alone action.

If you are building a list with Vessery you already have TL feeders, which case you might as well go xD and get doubleshots. Long as you avoid staring down the barrels of another ship at range1, he still doesnt go down that easy. A properly supported xD vessery is not a pretty sight, but its nowhere near as safe to do it.

I'm not a good enough arc dodger to go with /D.

Not so much arcdodging, as thats kinda hard to do without the exact perfect barrelroll position or PTL with roll + boost, but more like abuse the fact that you have a shot thats likely to strip tokens (the cannon) and then a 3die shot at range2/3 to follow up. Dont get greedy and try to get a 4die shot, because thats when you get predictable and a flanker snags you at the same time and you just got shot at 2-3 times in the same round.

People will usually spend their tokens to cancel out the ion/tractor effect, as those tend to be more deadly than a 3die shot since they either make the 3die shot hit harder (tractor) or make a followup shot stupid easy to pull off (ion). Few times ive ran xD's i usually just take away tokens with that shot, but thats tokens to remove a single damage that didnt block the 3shot followup so i still won in the end lol

Range1 is usually a trap. I tend to avoid it unless im flanking.

Are you a coward? x7

Do you like to live life to the fullest, forcing the lesser mortals to turn away because they cannot withstand the glory of your visage? TIE/D

Would not recommend tieD for living life to the fullest, due to the life expectancy on those things :P

/D if you have enough points to afford it. All applicalbe cannons are so good with Vessery.

Yeah it turns him into the primary target - like a real ace.

The best defence still is a strong offence.

technically the best defense is not getting shot

a strong offense only helps if you can either kill the guy before he shoots or land a lucky blinded pilot

Achilles knew what was up:

"If I hold out here and I lay siege to Troy,

my journey home is gone, but my glory never dies.

If I voyage back to the fatherland I love,

my pride, my glory dies . . .

true, but the life that's left me will be long,

the stroke of death will not come on me quickly."

Your avatar image suggests you are an imperial ... but you are not.

Think imperial, think big, think in offense power.

A destroyed opponent means no danger = best defense.

Does your list have a larger, more immediate threat than Vessery/D? If yes then that may be an option. Is Vessery your major threat? Then you need /x7 if you want him to last more than one round.

I love the concept of the /D title, but they're just too fragile for the points cost. Both titles should have been -2 points, that would have made things much more interesting.

The x7: Five star safety rating. Great mileage. Inexpensive.

The xD: Fun. Aggressive. Exciting. For Badasses Only!

TIE/D on him.

X7 on everyone else.

I played the TIE/D recently, and put a guy running a swarm onto rocks about 4 times. And I was able to barrel roll him each time so that he'd have to then overlap the rock on the next move. The poor guy rolled hits almost every time, too. Vessery alone with that title was utterly devastating. Bet yeah, that's not going to happen all of the time. And there are so many large base ships out there these days. So, the x7 is pretty much the safe bet in anything competitive.

The combination of TIE/D Vessery and the Inquisitor is fantastic.

Everyone seems to loves to focus on Vessery early on which leaves you with The Inquisitor for the "End Game" where there are few better pilots.

Corran Horn, Soontir Fel, Poe, Wedge and Whisper are probably the only pilots that really top The Inquisitor one-on-one and its close.

Use TIE/D Vessery to upset people and force them to make the wrong choice, if you can get a "piece trade" of Vessery for any of the others I listed and leave yourself with the Inquisitor and 30ish points of something else then you should be golden.
