Starting new campaing soon - questions

By Slanesh, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Hi,

I'm going to start a new campaign soon. Never played one. My gf, a very competetive person, will be the OL. We have access to shadow rune, heirs of blood (sorta ;) ), and Shadow of Nerekhall. Which one should we play? We need it to be balanced and fun. Clearly biased quests will make everybody hate the game and after spending so much money on it I want the first experience of the group to be as good as possible.

Help plz

Heirs of blood is the more balanced story I know so far

From among those, I'd say Heirs of Blood is the most balanced, followed by Nerekhall, and Shadow Rune last.

Heirs of Blood is a really well put together campaign, with some unique mechanics on some of the maps and an epic finale. Just make sure you have a hero who can chase down a fast target for the last mission. (Bounty Hunter is really good at this)

Eliza is very speedy, and she can potentially win the final map just by running out the clock running away :P

I haven't played Heirs of Blood, but between Shadow of Nerekhall and The Shadow Rune, I'd like to note that both are fairly well-balanced, in my experience. What you're fearing - "Clearly biased quests will make everybody hate the game ..." - really shouldn't be an issue with any of these campaigns.

Or, at least, it won't be the campaigns themselves that are at fault. It's possible to have snowballing games that end up lopsided, but with so many options in the game, the odds are greater that the issue lies with particularly powerful hero and class combinations, lucky itemization, or just plain better/worse player(s).

heirs of blood (sorta ;) )

The Great Eye is watching you

I am not a veteran here and I haven't played Nerekhall, but between Shadow Rune and Heirs of Blood, Heirs have very interesting mechanics on each quest, which makes it more fun on both Heroes and Overlord. (which makes Shadow Rune pretty bland in comparison). I also heard Shadow Rune is not well balanced and favors the side of heroes.

Since your Overlord is competitive, I would say go ahead on Shadow Rune. The introductory quest is pretty satisfying for newcomers (heroes) when they win which tends to hook them in for campaign (but this is just my experience) :)
