TIE Defender is now canon: Battlefront!

By KCDodger, in X-Wing

Thing is, the game is able to create moments where you really feel like you're battling across the snow fields on Hoth or bearing down on the Falcon in Slave 1. It feels like Star Wars.

It's let down by it's limitations. The original games set a high bar that Battlefront can't match.

They already were, through Star Wars: Commander.

But Good show, regardless :D

This.

EDIT: Along with the YT-2400 and Decimator.

This. My favorite moment from Battlefront was, as a Rebel Soldier I come out and there's this Snowtrooper with a repeating blaster...

Just, holding it at the hip, spraying it at something, skirt-bit billowing in the wind, and he stoop atop a rock.

It was a REALLY amazing sight. I was like "Whoa. That's AWESOME". Just that one little moment! Then there was just... The awe of seeing the AT-AT in the distance sloooowly close in on the shield generator.

Battlefront, if nothing else, feels extremely Star Wars... it just lacks tons of necessary content.

People who are still confused as to whether this game is canon just need to remember that any events that occur in game and the layout of the environments, are not canon, whereas ships, vehicles and weapons are.

I'm not saying I disagree with you (because I'm not sure) or that you're wrong, but do you have a source for this? Has it actually been stated by LFL or Disney that ships vehicles and weapons featured in games are canon? I can't find a reliable source that confirms that at moment.

All I can find is that LFL / Disney stated that all officially licensed storytelling from April 25th 2014 is official canon + the 6 (at the time) films and The Clone Wars TV series.

Not that this matters in the slightest of course...TIE Defenders are in Battlefront now and that's really cool :-)

I miss flying through space, flying into the hangar of a large ship, then taking over that ship.

That was mental. On a PS2.

How are we not getting this on PS4?

Granted BF looks amazing and that can't be easy. But come on.

F#!@ now I have to buy that expansion and start playing battlefront again, well played EA well played.

The YT-2400 never left canon, it can be seen in the Special Edition of A New Hope leaving Mos Eisley.

That game seems to be 99% graphics, 1% gameplay.

It will feel right at home, in this dark "Era of HD".

This 100%.

The infantry combat now is an utter joke. Especially in the Death Star DLC. Both maps are claustrophobic messes were spam is the norm. The new heroes are OP, the new weapons secondary fire is OP, its just not that much fun. Another rushed DLC with little in terms of balance. They should have just made this DLC all starfighters. You'll still get bored of the starfighter gameplay since its basically fly around, auto-lock onto something and spray and pray. Rinse repeat over and over.

19:38 onwards. It's an NPC vehicle / pickup BUT IT'S THERE.

TIE DEFENDERS ARE OFFICIALLY PART OF THE STAR WARS CANON.

As others said, it was already canon. Now it's going mainstream.

Being a TIE Fighter (PC game) veteran, I love the TIE Defender, but I find it misplaced there... :/

You know there is a perfect imperial ship they could have used instead, right?

A ship much more similar with the B-Wing's stats and perfectly adequate in time frame...

A ship with a huge following of cultists fans that want to resurrect it make it canon again from the deeps of the forsaken Legends...

A ship that would make many old SW space sim players buy that game, even with it's evident shallowness...

Sigh. Now they will start whining why it needs to be mentioned in every thread...

This is true and also one of my big areas of confusion with the "new cannon". It's the Outrider which became non-canon as Shadows was wiped from Star Wars history. So is it now retconn'd as a generic YT-2400 or still the Outrider?

HWK as well, although that's more known because of the Kanan Comics. We now have never had a single wave that doesn't have a canon ship in it.

Not sure of it's name but I believe it will appear in Star Wars Rebels. That will ensure it and its title, if any, are cannon.

I just pointed out in a couple of threads how sad/humorous it was that you guys are constantly whining. Virtually everywhere, in nearly every possible unrelated thread. And you're saying if we notice the almost non stop moaning and groaning that it isn't really you at all?

You have an interesting concept of who is doing the whining since we are not the ones crying.

Just sayin'

There it came.

Nowhere near as interesting (obviously not interesting enough for its own thread) is the inclusion of a Defender in the art for the Starship Graveyard on Jakku card in Star Wars: Destiny. Does this confirm Defenders as having taken part in the battle for Jakku? Is this information that other people already knew that I'm just finding out? Either way, I found it mildly interesting and worth sharing. Made me go "huh.."

From my POV Defenders were something I loved from TIE Fighter back in the 90's.

Before buying it as part of Wave 4 (one big reason I started playing X-Wing at all), I didn't think it was seen anywhere else.

So to see it in Battlefront is a massive deal to me.

I gather it's also in Commander (the mobile game)?

So I guess they really are canon. This makes me a very happy chap.

The first time I saw them was in Empire at War. They quickly became my favorite ship.

But I didn't even mention the sacred name of you-know-what-ship.

But I didn't even mention the sacred name of you-know-what-ship.

Instead of "he who must not be names"...

Is it now "the ship that must not be named"?

Yep. Only in a sign of respect.

Title is certainly [about] cannon, but is it canon? Filoni stated that the ship in the show is not Outrider, so I'd say the ship is canon, the title isn't.

I just hope you realize we're both veterans of the same era.

"19:38 onwards" is the trench run, and I didn't see any TIE Defenders there.

I did though spot the one coming at the player at 2:26...

which he manages to take out quite easily by 2:32...

"fear of a name is stupid." -Gandalf, while flying an assault gunboat, 2006

Also pretty sure given that you can't fly Y-wings/B-wings/TIE bombers/TIE defenders, they wouldn't let you anywhere near the controls for the Gunboat. not without another dlc pack.
