Star Wars: Armada - Vassal module version 4.2.0

By Green Knight, in Star Wars: Armada

Agreed - many many thanks to @Green Knight for his priceless work on behalf of us all. And many thanks to the new dev team for a seamless transition. Here's to many more versions to come!

Thanks much @Green Knight for all your efforts. You've made the Armada community a much better place.

Thank you @Green Knight for all the hard work you've done to make Armada Vassal a thing. I for one directly owe my continued excitement for real tabletop Armada to your support during my having droughts over the last year.

New version released! 3.8.4 includes the 4 new spoiled cards and an MC-75 prototype (thanks @Green Knight ).

  • Added Jyn Erso, Caitken and Shollan, Wide Area Barrage, and Mon Calamari Exodus Fleet
    • Note: There are currently no raid tokens in the module. They will be added once we get the complete rules for Raid tokens.
  • Added MC75 ship cards and ship
  • Updated graphics pack
  • Added the new wave 7 cards to the spawner-tokens' menus
  • Updated Map packs with border on left side

Excellent work. Could not have done any better.

Some future suggestions:

  • update all firing arc graphics to v4 standard; they are included in my old dev build. Some minor fixes + same color scheme for all ships.
  • same with the obstacles; the dev build has the images where all the obstacles have the same 5-color distance bands
  • same with objective tokens (and other tokens with range bands)

Think I found a bug (384):

The new maps have grey border areas, but the position of the deployment area lines and the ambush zone box have not been adjusted accordingly.

For example, the position of the X axis of the Ambush Zone layer must be increased by the same number of pixels added to the left side of the map.

Indeed! I will have a fixed version put up later this evening!

Fixed!

High praise indeed!

Also, added in your suggestions to the fixed 3.8.4 version.

Tip: you now risk 2 players having 2 different versions of 3.8.4.

I saw a few ppl online yesterday that already had 3.8.4 installed (me included).

I did this once (long ago) with a small bugfix, and it casued some confusion.

After that I found it best to always change the version number when I change the build.

Also, the dropbox link contains the new 3.8.4, but the Vassal site has the old one still (probably because of the approval delay).

I'll stop nagging now - keep up the good work!

Is there a way of giving unarmed stations 10 hull?

Like those trackers on the ship bases.

Yes, it's possible. A good idea even.

Edit: you could also add little colored dots, again like the ships, to tell them apart. Probably not a hi priority.

Good point. Can’t assume everyone will be watching the thread, haha!

Will add it to the list.

Just a couple of quick things I noticed recently and decided I'd pass on.

1) Spawning the Quantum Storm title from the GR75 ship card (one or the other, possibly both) spawns the GR75 model rather than the upgrade title card.

2) Pressing F3 brings up the game pieces, but unlike the rest of the windows, pressing F3 again does not remove it.

Will look into both of these. Am currently holding back 3.8.5 which has the newly spoiled content, due to some other features being added as well. Expect an update in the next day or two!

After looking into number 2, it appears this is due to the window of the game pieces menu being a different type of menu than any of the others. The focus is pulled onto that window when it is pulled up, which means you aren't focused on the main game window, so the hotkeys used on the main game window won't trigger. You can either exit the pieces menu, or click back onto another vassal window, in which case the f3 hotkey will then be able to close the pieces menu. I don't think it's worth trying to change the entire setup of the pieces menu (the majority of the module information is contained there) and risk messing causing more serious issues.

In other news, expect version 3.8.5 sometime tonight (US time)

It's always been like that. It's a minor bug in vassal, rather than the module.

That makes sense, and honestly I figured it might be something like that. Does it make more sense to just get rid of the hotkey? I only ever hit it by accident when I'm trying to either bring up the board or the dice -- and I'm sure I'm not alone in that regard.

Hooray for JJ! :)

Strong work, dev team! We love you!

What is the 'graphics pack' for these releases? Just new maps? Or do those have the text on the cards?

Yes, they are the cards with text.

That's why I suggested it as just a menu item. You simply select 'movement' and you get a drop-out menu with 5 options...for distance-1, distance-2, etc. All movement buffs I'm aware of cap at 5, so the app doesn't need to know what the fighter squadron currently has, just present the 5 options and let the player choose the right one.

Been digging around in vassal to see if it was possible to implement the idea I had above for squadron movement - amusingly, it seems like someone had asked about the exact same thing about, oh, a decade ago .

http://www.vassalengine.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=158

Different game, obviously, but seems like there hasn't been any development on that capability in vassal since then.

Best I can find is that just adding the 'movement trail' option to the squadrons may help a bit identifying where they were moving from, but no 'snap' option :-(
