OK, found the problem:

Arquitens has the Pelta's arcs. You can see the RED arc dividers. All Imp ships should have geen arcs.

Will add it to the next build. Expect one before the tourney starts.

If you're in the know you can replace the incorrect arc file with this one: https://www.dropbox.com/s/psh1yhq5bkdqqq8/arcs_v4_arquitens.png?dl=0

I did it! Your tutorials are super helpful, thanks for all that you do!

You're welcome.

Sorry about the bugs...but I seem to lack a Testing Department :D

Don't worry, even when you have a Testing Department, bugs make it through......

I focus on getting a working system to the customer.

Some bugs are acceptable :D

Version 3.8.1 is up, fixing the Arquitens arc bug and adding the dust field distance overlays:

http://www.vassalengine.org/wiki/Module:Star_Wars:_Armada

Just make sure you replace any Arquitens models in your setup logs.

Minor bug: E-wing card spawns Aggressor

I've added a couple of graphics tutorials and added them to a new Armada for devs playlist:

Fully spoiled wave 7 cards now available in module v3.8.2:

http://www.vassalengine.org/wiki/Module:Star_Wars:_Armada

  • Thrawn
  • Raddus
  • Profundity (the card)
  • ISD-K
  • ISD-C

New ISDs are oc fully playable, as they are the same model as the ISD-I/II. Rebels are not so lucky.

Gonna have to get this later. Looking forward to trying that KDY Avenger.

This is probably a stupid question (that's been asked before I'm sure) but would it be more detrimental to start playing Armada in Vassal before real life? Keep in mind I've never played a miniature game before nor have a used a TTS or any other kind of software/online modes for the CCGs I've followed. Probably the closest I've come is Hearthstone...

Id rather never play online, if given the option. I'd always prefer the tangible route, but I fear that there just isn't going to be a player base around here. I even called all the big local shops that host xwing tournies and they said Armada isn't too popular. On the other hand, playing online might make me not want to continue at all, as I think the best part about gaming is the human interaction i.e. the banter and smack talk.

I dunno. I'm torn.

I don't know if it would be detrimental, if you have read the rules and have a general understanding of the game, I think the only difference is really the feel of the ship, and the perspective of the vision. I don't have any of the physical components, so I only play online, and also many players here are happy to do a game to help you into the game, so really people generally get to vassal for reasons of availability, but also to face new opponents and to see different metas, and try different opponents with different playstyles.

So if you want to get into the game, doing so online is not impossible

To add to what Vis said, while playing online doesn't get quite the fun of physical involvement (though you do have a text chat and the option for voice through Discord), it has 2 benefits:

1) you get more game in that way, and against different play styles than you are used to, you get to play with fleets you'd never physically buy (14 YT-2400s, for example), and you get to test out ideas of fleets to see how whether or not you wish to buy a certain expansion and if so how many.

2) you don't have to pay for it, meaning that if you find you don't actually like the game mechanics, no harm done - just uninstall the program and you're good. So it's also a good way to test the game mechanics to see if you approve. I mean, you could be having the greatest conversations about Star Wars, but if you don't like the game you're having them over, it's unlikely that they shall be had for long, so I suggest that before you take the plunge, you watch some videos of people playing it and play a few games on Vassal yourself, to test out the mechanics.

I can relate.

For my own part I started with Vassal due to a lack of players locally.

I've grown a decent sized local scene now, but it's taken two years, and we're still only around 10 people.

But I always wanted more, and Vassal gave me that - more opponents, more skilled opponents, more diversity in lists.

I probably wouldn't be playing RL Armada if I didn't have Vassal support.

Good points, thanks, everyone.

I guess I should just give it a shot. My only other reservation about "PC" gaming is my inability to do anything in moderation. I had a WoW issue a few years back. I guess I just think of IRL gaming to going out to a theater to see a movie and online to sitting on the couch all day watching Netflix not being productive. I want the things I like to be special, more social, chat boxes not withstanding. Does that make sense?

TMI, I know, sorry. In any event, I agree. Other than having the models (which I love) it's a big expense to go all in and have them collect dust and no one to play with. That's not even mentioning that I may not even like it, so I'll definitely check it out!

Is it possible that the distant planet map is broken in 3.8.2?

I've got the new version and I've imported the images, I can't see or select the new ISDs from the Imperial icon within Vassal. They're simply not there. Any ideas?

Edit: Nevermind, got it via the Game pieces menu.

I was in the same boat as you. The closest LGS that has Armada players for me is about 2 hours away. I've checked both of the ones within 30 mins, huge on X-Wing but no Armada. I sent a message to a few of the guys that were active posters in the vassal thread. I've gotten on Vassal and played a game with a buddy who lives several hours away. 2 nights ago I jumped on, and Broba was playing a game. I proceeded to jump in as an observer. Broba and his playing partner (can't remember his name right this second) were gracious enough to answer any and every question I had in the general chat. In the private messaging, I was talking to them regarding what strategies they were using for their 2 fleets. I learned that I had been doing anti-squadron wrong, and just had a much better understanding when it was over. I highly recommend Vassal for that alone if nothing else. Being able to see the top down during the game was much more informative for me than the dozen or so youtube videos of table games I had watched.

I've got a question for the Vassal guys out there: For higher build casual games, 600 point - 1000 point, what size map do you guys recommend? Wanted to get an epic battle in with my buddy this weekend and just wasn't sure as we've only done a base 400 pointer with capitals and squadrons so far. Thanks!

Have you added the map expansion to that version?

Try the CC one. It's a 9x3, and thus should be plenty big enough.

I managed a 1000 in a standard 6x3, relatively crowded, but fits well.

Quick spawn hasn't been implemented yet. Use the Pieces window.

6x3 is well suited for 600 points.

9x3 is probably good for 1000 and above.

The thing is you don't want too big a table, or it gets boring.

Also, consider 7 rounds for really big games.
