Any image-savvy people here?

I can't figure out how @ransburger made the distance overlays for the obstacles (I'm trying to make new ones for the debris fields).

The trick is getting a small token to 'expand' unequally: imagine measuring the distance from any point along the edge of the token.

Just scaling up or resizing doesn't really do the trick.

It's not a HUGE deal, but I'd like to get it right.

I'm sure it's perfectly simple once you wrap your head around it.

This is almost certainly more work than the original method, but I would get a curve that fits the outside of the debris field, then start applying a coefficient of the appropriate magnitude to get larger and larger versions of the curve. I'm not sure what software you're working with, so I have no idea if that's helpful at all, but that's the first idea that occurred to me.

Photo editing software.

Was hoping to draw the contours as vectors, then somehow scale it up.

But this is not my strong area.

That's probably a reasonable method, but it's far from my strong suit as well. About all I can offer is good luck.

Hmm...this method is just too much work. Maybe I need other software. Haven't got the faintest clue really.

Did some googling since it is an interesting problem:

"Grow" in Gimp

"Expand shape" in photoshop

"Offset path" in illustrator

Not tested!

@ransburger was kind enough to explain how he did it. Turns out my technique was good, but I need other software.

Also, I've made a kind of tutorial for vassal editing. Only it's more like an hour of me rambling and trying to explain stuff I only do but rarely.

It's the first in a series. I hope.

Primarily intended for @JJs Juggernaut , but maybe others will find it somewhat of interest.

Module version 3.8.0 has been released:

Change:

  • Finally fixed the quick-spawn bugs. For real this time...no really I mean that, seriously!
  • Real fire arcs for Quasar & Hammerheads added.
  • Arquitens and Pelta arcs tweaked; they were pretty darn close, but not entirely correct.
  • Pelta model has a new look.
  • TRCs can exhaust.
  • You can no longer exhaust and exhausted cards.
  • Some other trivial fixes.

REMEMBER: 3.8.0 is NOT compatible with older versions of the module, due to some graphics changes!

Some more good news:

I've managed to get the distance overlays for the dust fields right.

It was not overly complicated - once I'd switched to more suitable software (Adobe Illustrator/equivalent).

So those will be in the next (3.9.0) release.

On a related, but more general note:

I now know how to do all the module's graphics components, so I should be able to add correct graphics to new stuff more rapidly than before.

Btw: I'm doing the overlays in the "new" style, with different colors for each band, rather than solid yellow w/different opacity. I'll redo the other overlays at some point too.

That's OK if you only fly those ones but ...

I've checked and rechecked and...

If it's buggy AGAIN I'm torching the module.

Is this from a fleet saved from a previous beta? Saved fleets seem to carry the old bugs over. If you sub out the offending cards with "fresh" ones it seems to resolve a lot of issues (the ones I have, anyways).

Like it says in the 380 post:

NOT compatible with older versions, setup logs included.

The graphics pack is also new, and should match the 380 module.

But I'll do another check.

If you wonder WHY this is so:

Saves/logs contain the older definitions of cards/game pieces.

So effectively you're playing with something old and something new, so you're gonna feel blue! :(

For @SkyCake and I, the Arquitens firing arcs appear to be on backwards.

Also, I'd like to file a request that graphics packs include options for alt-art cards, if we can get a collection together

OK, found the problem:

Arquitens has the Pelta's arcs. You can see the RED arc dividers. All Imp ships should have geen arcs.

Will add it to the next build. Expect one before the tourney starts.
