Getting back to the game - struggling to make squadrons

By Zura, in X-Wing

Heya. I've recently gotten back into the game with my friends (we play casually) because of the whole new wave thing, but I'm struggling to think of any entertaining and balanced lists with stuff i have. With tommorow's purchases added to my collection i will have:

Core Set (new and old)

Yt-1300

Yt-2400

Lambda

Imperial Veterans

Imperial Aces

E Wing

Z-95

X Wing

Y Wing

K Wing

Arc 170

Tie Fighter

Tie Interceptor

Tie Inqusitor

Tie Advanced (having to title sucks)

Tie phantom

Tie Defender

Autothrusters x1

I know that's a bunch of ships, but i suck at creative list building and keep doing the same stuff - typical soontir, inquisitor, poe with r2d2... And i'm looking for some advice what interesting lists can be done from what i have - and it would be nice for rebel ones to contain arc 170, as i'm really looking forward to playing the ship. The more lists, the better. I also can purchase one more ship - i'm buying arc and tie inquistor for sure tommorow, but i can get one more - which one would you recommend? Is decimator fun?

PS: No proxying upgrades, as my playgroup hates it ;-;

How many Tie Fighters do you have?

I was thinking about this list:

The Inquisitor (25)

Juke (2)
Autothrusters (2)
TIE/v1 (1)
"Zeta Leader" (20)
"Mauler Mithel" (17)
"Backstabber" (16)
"Scourge" (17)
Total: 100
Oh, I just realized that one Tie Fighter pilot comes from the Gozanti. You can probably replace him with another, but it ruins the effect that each ship boosts their attack dice.

I've listed each expansion - i don't have any duplicates. I don't have scourge and juke ;-; Maybe replace juke with push the limit and scourge with dark curse? Thanks for the list anyway, i will give it a try with those changes, probably gonna split ships into two groups of ties and inquisitor flanking.

EDIT: Oops, zeta leader too. Now i'm not sure if it's worth a try.

Personally I don't like the decimator, but personally I would buy the raider and just fly Palp Aces with Double Defenders or Soontir Fel + The Inquisitor.

Palpatine Defender Escort

Howards Special

Both lists are clearly out of budget, so let's try to focus on what you got already even more … no I agree, you have tons of stuff and I am right now out of ideas.

Rebels is cool, a K-Wing with Biggs and the Ghost, but it uses a tactical jammer from the deci, stuff from the rebel transport and the ghost. The new super dash is using a crew member of the ghost as well, Wes, Biggs + Corran is out for the lack of transport as well, you don't have brobots at all … two arcs + Biggs is a cool list, but biggs is using there again normally the astromech from the rebel transport and one of the arc is supposed to run the stress-bot, which means again, one expansion is missing.

Hmmm … wait, Carnor with Defenders should work … nope, that should use imho two jukes or one PTL + MK2 Ryad.

I mean, you could build along the lines, just a little less effective without the second juke or the MK2, but it someting which you will notice when playing. This slight missing thing which would make the list a little bit better, but 2 defenders + Carnor Jax is for sure still strong.

Countess Ryad (34)
Push the Limit (3)
TIE/x7 (-2)
Carnor Jax (26)
Push the Limit (3)
Autothrusters (2)
Royal Guard TIE (0)
Glaive Squadron Pilot (34)
Juke (2)
TIE/x7 (-2)
Total: 100

Decimator is the most fun.

If you want to fly TIE Defenders try using Ryad in the Veterans bo you have. She can be a lot of fun with different builds.

If you're wanting to fly an ARC-170, the build that I plan on starting out with is one suggested by a particular forum user:

Norra Wexley

- R2-D2

- Push The Limit

- Tail Gunner

- Vectored Thrusters

- Alliance Overhaul

As for what I'll run her with, there's lots of experimenting I want to do. The popular approach is going to be Biggs/R4-D6/IA and a 34 points of something else, to help keep her alive, though if you put enough offense into the remaining 60 points, you might be able to get away without using Biggs.

Thank you for all the ideas. It's sad as i always dont have some upgrades you list (not sure why everyone assume i have juke or integrated astromech). I hate the fact that the most powerful and useful ones are in epic ships, when i tend to buy small ships more often. The ARC build Vedrial posted looks really promising, i will probably pair it with Dash. For the empire, i wonder about using phantom with defenders - it's pretty self-contained ship. How do you find this build?

I did not assume that you have juke, I assumed that including one extra expansion is fine, as you said you gonna buy one more. Which would be in this case a TIE/FO or T-70 X-Wing. Though personally I would not buy a T-70 right before the release of heroes of the resistance which comes with a T-70 and TWO integrated astromechs. But that is just me others seem to disagree. :)

There's so many upgrades it's easy to forget where exactly they come from...

You could always is one of the squad builders and print out your squads. It help preserve your cards and give you and idea of what you may wish to add to your collection. Just click on a few of the above link and print. ;)

From expansions you have listed you can build very competitive list, here it is:

Countess Ryad

Push the Limit

Tie 7

Col. Vessery

Tie 7

Veteran Instincts

Inquisitor

Push the Limit

Title

Autothrusters

I agree with this. If you are only playing casually, just proxy the cards that you don't have. This gives you an idea if the cards are worth buying a ship for later. We proxy cards at my LGS all the time on our casual play nights, but for tournaments, everyone needs the cards.

Funny, as I hate all Phantoms and really don't find the Decimator that interesting to play. :)
