Allies of the Empire

By reidchapman, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

Because all the races available to a given career are displayed on the card how will FF go about adding more player races.

My guess is by a quick description e.g. Bretonnians can choose any career available to Reiklanders except career that are ONLY for Reiklanders.

Also Bretonnians would have some special careers such as squire (a starting career) or knight (an advanced career)

Other races might be more restrictive such as:

Lizardmen cannot choose any careers except there own (mage-priest, champion etc.) and a few exceptions (scout, soldier)

Any ideas?

Probably the same way they go about replacing content in their other games like Descent...

When they introduce Halflings for example, they will probably also give you replacement cards for those careers that Halflings can now play. You will be able to tell the difference by the little symbol down in the bottom corner.

That way, people who have the Halfling expansion (or whatever its called) can use Halflings and those who don't, don't have too.

I just want to point out if halflings can play at least 50% of the careers, that's allot of replacement cards.

So what is your point then? You asked how they were going to do it, I gave you a response which is the logical way to do it.

Is this a "waaah, no halflings" troll post?

No, you gave him a response which was a TERRIBLE way to do it. As he pointed out, you'd have to reprint a huge number of cards. This game and expansions are/will be expensive enough without this kind of redundancy.

As a more practical alternative, I'd expect them to include a list of careers published up to the Halfling expansion that are allowed, and print Halfling on future cards that are allowed for Halflings

Lets go on the assumption that half of the starting careers in the box are halfling compatible... that's 15 careers or 15 cards. How is that a huge number of cards?

When you compare the cost of the adventurer's kit with the contents of the box, you're looking at about $5 of cardstock at retail.

I don't know what your financial situation is like, but $5 worth of cost (especially given it will always be backwards compatible for people who dont want to buy the halfling careers) is neither expensive nor redundant.

Uh-huh... and when they make Skaven characters, or people from other areas of the old world, or any other racial type, you expect them to reprint all careers that they can use again?

Not at all, the smart thing when you start introducing skaven characters and the like would be to rebrand some of the common career names with their skaven equivalent.

EG - Soldier = Clanrat

First of all, I'm not willing to assume that they are going to release Skaven or Orcs as playable character's anytime soon, since playing the enemies of the Empire appeals to a smaller subset of the overall WFRP player base, so it's not as profitable as other supplements might be. However, if they did, I agree that these races would have their own careers and not use the existing careers.

As for humans from different areas, that's no problem since the cards currently say human, not Reiklander.
