Would you still buy and play X-Wing if the ships came unpainted?

By SpikeSpiegel, in X-Wing

I would! But pretty glad that they are painted because the ships should be unified in paint themes. Another cool thing about Scum because you can have such a sweet paint themes and customisations! :)

I would not have. But now that I know the game, yes.

The poor models are why I don't give Star Trek Attack Wing a chance. The scale issue bugs me to no end.

I would not, because I know how would a game that comes with unpainted minis look with my amount of "hobby time".

And I find both unpainted and lazily painted minis to be an offence.

With X-Wing, the problem is gone. The default zero-effort level for the minis' factory finish ranges from "ok" to "nice" in my book, which is actually great if you think of it as the lowest standard that you'll going to see on the table. If you have the skill and time, you can make some additional touches, or a full repaint, but even if you don't, your squadron is never going to look like you don't care or had a preschooler paint them. Overall appeal of the game (especially to newcomers) sure gets a boon out of that fact, too.

What I would love, however, is having an option to buy the raw models somehow.

Unassembled, unpainted models still on their sprues.

This way, I would't have to worry about removing the paint, losing the detail where the paint couldn't be fully removed, crap parts' alignment (happens so often...), painted-over mould flash sticking out here and there, infuriating traces of glue on the paint; which you won't be able to remove without some scouring,etc...

Please?

Yes the models are bad but scaling would not be easy with ships like the Defiant (170 meters) and things like the Romulan D'deris (1041 meters) or a Borg Cubus (edge length of around 3000 meters and volume of about 28000^3 meters), that would not work with everything in one sclae.

Nevertheless the rules aren't to bad but it got really unbalanced over time.
