Help me understand an Australian Nationals top 16 list.

By Shrike37, in X-Wing

I saw this list from the Australian Nationals and it really sounds fun to fly:

Jamie Saxon (14th in swiss, 5-1)
29 Omega Leader w/ Juke, Comms, Stealth.
33 Vessery w/ Adapt, X7.
36 Ryad w/ PtL, Mk2, X7.

(98 Points)

However, I have one question. Why did he take a 2 point initiative bid and give Vessery adaptability instead of just taking a 1 point bid with crack shot or just spend all his points and give Vessery juke?

Taking Vessery to PS 5 to match Ryad might be nice in some movement circumstances, but it seems juke is going to get a lot more bang for your buck. I guess PS 7 with a 2 point bid could help out against the Dash matchup. But I wouldn't bet playing against Dash enough to make that worth it when juke will earn back the points in almost all the matches.

What am I missing because he obviously built it for a reason and ended up doing very well with the build?

X7's play unlike anything we've seen so far. They are surprisingly PS proof (especially ryad) and vessery can get his action economy without ever actually performing an action.

I do agree that juke is vess' bread and butter, but have seen maarek used to very strong effect. I can see the need to hit 7 being important. It's probably a mirror match play.

Honestly it's quite an unconventional take on imperial x7s overall in my opinion. Spending 29 points on omega leader with stealth instead of either 31 points on Inquisitor and no bid or 29 points on palp shuttle both seem like crazy ideas to me personally but it's admittedly hard to argue with the result working in some way.

Maybe the initiative bid wasn't for Vessery but was for Omega? On a Mynock Squadron Podcast, iirc, the Foss brothers talked about how there are very significant bids in Australia by comparison to other places, too, so a 1 pt bid might not have been worth it.

Because Adaptability lets you go up or down. That way, you can go up to 7 for the mirror match, or down to match Ryad's 5 when it doesn't matter. Opens up more movement options.

Friend of mine has played something similar and made Top-32 of UK Nats with it - he was Juking up Vessery and Ryad but otherwise the same.

I know why he's done it but I'm also not sure Omega Leader is the right call over a 3rd Defender or Palp.

Isn't OL gold against Dengaroo? That would be my guess.

Partly, but he was trying to leverage triple Jukes on a single target, not really thinking that O.Leader doesn't really interact with other Jukes.

As for the adaptability being able to drop Vess to PS5 is very nice as it allows you to switch up the firing and movement order mid round. This I have found can really play with peoples minds. Especially if you "always" move and shoot first with the one ship for the first few rounds. They begin to expect that pattern and if you shift it you can screw with their mind for a round or two.

Yep, unless painbot triggers 4 turns in a row. Stupid friggin' bot!! Not that I'm bitter

WTF, maybe he has only 1 Juke ?

I'm pretty sure my Pistol P8 is defective. :(

This is the best guess in my opinion. I only have one Juke and whenever I try to come up with a list with both Vessery and Omega Leader I get irritated that I don´t have two Jukes, but I still don´t feel like buying a second Tie/FO expansion.

Omega Leader rocks, especially in this meta.

Pretty simple, let's him drop to 5 to match ryad if PS is not an issue. This can be huge for maneuvering.

Really depends on what happens the round dengar pops countermeasures and tries to swat omega.

I wanted the initiative bid for my Omega when facing Omega/Inquisitor/VI Vessery etc.

Adaptability just helps match PS with Ryad if you can get away with it really, PS7 helped a little against juke vessery/glaives.

I've flown the list a lot and this is exactly why I picked Adapt. over Juke.

I much prefer vess with stealth and juke, otherwise the same exact list has gotten me 2 tournament wins with almost perfect MoV, lost omega twice both times. D:
