Overlapping Squadrons and Obstacles

By chico2323, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

Hello all.

Question pertains to the scenario below and scenarios of similar nature.

1) Opponent uses a large ship to overlap several squadrons, some are mine, some are his.

2) There happens to be obstacles nearby (let's assume a "bad" one like an asteroid/debris and a "good" one such as the healing station)

3) Given that the opponent overlapped several squadrons I pick those squadrons up and place them as I see fit as long as they are touching the overlapping large ship.

4) The obstacles are very close to the large ship and the squadrons are placed such that the squadrons are now overlapping (on top of) the obstacles

Question: Do the squadrons suffer/gain the consequences/benefits of the obstacles?

Yes and No:

Squadrons ignore the Negatives of Moving onto Asteroids and Debris. This is always. Doesn't matter if they fly there, or are placed there, they ignore it.

Squadrons gain the +1 heal point from the Station if they End their Move on it ... If they're placed because of an Overlap, it doesn't count. They ahve to fly.

However , the "downside" they will experience is that any Squadron who is completely on the obstacle has Line of Sight obstructed To and From it... Which means that those squadrons are not engaged . Even at Distance 1 of enemy squadrons.

This means that they would be free to move, and free to Shoot at Ships, or any enemy squadrons at Distance 1... But of course, as LOS is obstructed, they would be -1 Die for those attacks.

The LOS will not be obstructed if the closest part of their Base to the Enemy Squadron or Hull Zone is Clear of the Obstacle.

Squadrons are not damaged by debris or asteroids.

If squadrons are placed on a space station due to being overlapped then they do not repair a damage point because of the repositioning. The only repair a damage point if they end their movement on the station.

Thank you for the answers guys....

wow I didn't know about the obstructed = not engaged part......

Time for me to do more reading on rules....(I'm a beginner)

Just checking dras. If exactly as stated in scenario, you place a squad after being overlapped on an obstacle. Would LOS to attack the ship that overlapped it be unobstructed because although the squad is on an asteroid completely, it is touching base to base of the ship and would have no cardboard of the obstacle in between the two.

I default to the rule (italic emphasis mine):

PAGE 8, RRG, "OBSTRUCTED"

• If line of sight is drawn over an obstacle, the attack is obstructed even if the bases of the attacker and defender are touching .
