Has a new ship been spotted in the Season 3 Rebels trailer?

By dewbie420, in X-Wing

"Eww what is this prequel crap, this isn't my Star Wars!"

-Example: ARC-170 (to an extent, there is more hate for other prequel ships out there)

If the ARC had been in Episode 1, I think there'd be a lot less hate for Prequel ships in general.
I don't know about less hate; cause "haters gonna hate." But FFG missed a HUGE opportunity with the ARC 170. I was so hoping it would be the first three-faction ship. Missed. The. Boat.

It isn't too late, you know. Why release all 3 versions at once? Use them as filler for future release waves to fill creativity gaps.

I think the issue against this is due to the Arc-170 having the Alliance Overhaul but not being Rebel Only so it wouldn't be future proofed for if they were to release it for the three factions. That said I'd be all for the factions to have access to the ARC, especially the Empire. Though who knows maybe they will update the Arc at some point and release it with the imperial paint job, with the hand waving excuse being that it was an Arc the Rebels stole recently.

or...Neimodian escort shuttle, which is pretty much the same thing. They could also make the Nova Courier, which would be cool, or the 4 engine version of the Gozanti for Scum, which would be cooler.

Y'know, with that red light in front, if you slice off the canopies you'd have a nice heavy Cylon fighter...

Even such a cool rendering can't fix the ridiculously large guns though! They should probably run right along the fuselage tucked in next to the engines.

I guess we just have to wait until the episode airs. I thought someone would ID it...if it was an existing ship. Oh well.

But look at all the wonderful conversations we had! :P

Isn't that a YT-2400?

Yes.

Time to get Dash Rendar back into canon?

No.

It's already been confirmed by someone official at the show (at one of the comic-cons I think) that yes, it is a YT2400, but no, it's not Dash or his crew, nor the Outrider.

This ship is indeed a YT-2400. Dash Rendar will not be showing up in Rebels. During the Rebels panel at Celebration Europe in July, Dave Filoni stated that Dash Rendar would not show up and that this particular ship is a YT-2400. Apparently the designer of the ship from the Shadows of the Empire N64 game is now working at Lucasfilm on Rebels and this is how this freighter has entered canon.

Of course. You would also be much better of building starfighters with a good pilot view like The TIE or Bab5 Starfury. (And not a BF110 clone like the Arc170.) Actually in space battles a good sensor view and fully enclosed cockpit would be better.

But due to Lucas dense vacuum :P they generate too much Lucas heat and will melt right through the hull if mounted there. :P

Or someone really had to compensate while drawing these.

It's not mandalorian.

Seems to be a Sheathipede Shuttle

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Sheathipede-class_transport_shuttle/Legends

Probably a smaller variety, maybe customized by the Rebellion for the Ghost crew. It doesn't look like they had an astromech slot, though, so that doesn't appear to be our mystery ship.

Well, between Nute Gunray's ship and the Firespray, we'll be one step closer to a Separatist version of Most Wanted...

I think a lot of this 'only for kids' hate comes from people who tried to watch the pilot and saw 'Space Aladdin'.

This show has consistently improved and I couldn't be more excited about the third season.

It still a kid show, it still comes with most of the baggage of a show aimed at children. But, outside of that it got a lot better and is still Filoni Star Wars, which is best star wars. Star Wars was never super mature, always family orientated and like all good family orientated entertainment you do aim for the kids and add stuff for the adults. Works for MlP:FiM, works for Rebels, works for all good children cartoons. Your children will like Helicoper lightsabers while you facepalm, but you get the implications of being on Malachor V at the same time. Healthy balance, though I admit, I really wish rebels target demographic would be a little older, similar to TCW which was aimed at children with double digit ages. ;-)

The YT-2400 showed up in Ep IV.

Or in the new EU, whch is growing pretty rapidly.

There is no EU now.. Only Canon!

Erm, EU is a term describing stuff appearing in other forms of media than the original. For Star Wars everything non-movie is EU. If the EU of a fandom is canon or not is a different matter.

Btw: The Sheathipede Shuttle was in Episode I and III.

No it's not. EU refers to all the old novels, games etc. It was a mess, there were some brilliant things out there but it was hugely messy. Now you have Canon and Legends (Formerly EU).

something from Legends only becomes canon if it appears in any of the canon material.

I think you don't get it. Expanded Universe isn't a Star Wars exclusive term.

It just refers to additional material outside the main media. Doctor Who has a expanded universe, Star Trek has one.

It has nothing to do, wether the additional stuff is canon or not.

In the old Star Wars EU there were several stories which weren't canon. E. g. the Infinities Comics and such.

Disney named the old EU Legends to avoid confusion because the new novels are technically also EU material as they are no movies.

I don't think that the guns are that big. The guns look rather small, though I am not sure what those pylons below the guns really do …

Though the some schematics disagree with me on that.

I think that's part of the issue. One of the main reasons the two players who introduced me to the game have stopped playing is because the game has taken a heavy turn towards items from a show for children. No hate towards Rebels (I think it's pretty cool for what it is), but in the end, X-wing is a game with a largely adult audience. A number of players already struggle with the negative connotation that comes along with playing with plastic ships as an adult (no need to let me know they shouldn't let what other people think bother them and get over it, because for some it's not that simple), and adding ships from a children's cartoon isn't helping fringe players feel better about the hobby from my experience.

But this is entirely my experience and why I would much prefer FFG pull from every other source which adult players would feel more comfortable with from this point forward. Having said that, I fully understand why FFG has used lots of material from the show lately (one reason being the factions are drawing thin on quality material), but it hasn't been great for me personally.

Kdubb, I totally respect that some people don't like the addition of ships from SW: Rebels (and as mentioned FFGs content choice can't please everyone), but I do want to give some numbers regarding the idea that SW:Rebels is somehow taking over the game, or as you put it, "a heavy turn towards rebels."

Since Wave 8, when SW:Rebels ships were first introduced, we have seen 20 ship expansions released/announced (that doesn't include the doubling up of the new FA: Core Set ships and their expansions, which would make it 22).

Of those 20, 6 have been SW: Rebels ships with 3 going to Rebels, 2 going to Scum, and one to Imperials. (We could debate the Shadowcaster a bit since it first officially appeared in a book, but that book was based on a cartoon...etc...so I think the source material essentially holds the same concern you are talking about). That's not a heavy turn, really. That's just over 1/4 releases. With something else likely released from Rogue One, we're going to see that ratio drop.

And again, SW: Rebels is actually the largest single current official source material for X-Wing and in terms of cannon, Rebels is comparable in time to putting all seven of the movies together. It will actually surpass that this season I believe.

I think the bigger problem is that the rebel faction has gotten either SW: Rebels ships or retreads of already released ships (and in some cases both in Sabine's TIE) with just the U-Wing and ARC being outside of those categories. Heck, Rogue One might see another opportunity for them to re-release the X-wing. So, yeah, if people aren't excited about the show for whatever reason, they aren't seeing a lot of new opportunities in the rebel faction.

Given some of the places the show went last season, I'd take issue with dismissing Rebels as "a show for children."

Today's child fan watching Rebels is tomorrow's Force Awakens or Rogue One kind of fan. Just because something has a tendency to hook kids doesn't mean it's bad. The prequels hooked kids but was bad for different reasons (terrible terrible writing that kids can easily ignore but grinds my gears). So while the prequels were terrible for adults, many people that play the game and are here on the forums now grew up watching them first and not the original trilogy.

If they're not guns, that's an even more spectacular design fail IMO. I don't remember from the movie or Clone Wars if you ever saw one fire, but that might definitively answer whether they're guns or not.

In any case, I'm probably going to do something about them once I get the mini.

Season starts this weekend, doesn't it?

Rebels does sart this weekend on the 24th (Saturday).

And the big "pylons" are the actual guns in that schematic, as it should be. And the small things that are circled above them in the Imperial ARC are the range finders.

I honestly figured that the ARC170 in game would have an Rear arc like it does, but a cannon slot to show off the big guns facing forward. I think hat FFG did with the ship is really nice though.
