Gonk Droid Stats

Hey all!

My team has a Gonk droid that they found and they want to keep him with them. I was thinking of a way to make the Gonk fun and useable, as they're literally everywhere. They're slow and cumbersome, but look sturdy. I wanted to make them a low level rival to make life fun for them. This is what I came up with:

GNK Power Droid

B1/A1/I1/C1/W1/P1

Soak- 5

Wounds- 11

Talents:

Ponderous (like the hutt talent, limiting maneuvers and adding Setback to Athletics and Coordination)

Recharge- Player can negate an out of ammo despair by spending a maneuver at the Gonk droid to re-charge their fuel cells. Only Useable once per encounter. Add +B when assisting with mechanics checks to repair ship System Strain

Skills:

Computers 1

Mechanics 1

My reasoning for the 2 skills is the fact that they are power droids, and while not good on their own, they can do rudimentary commands. Being essentially walking power generators, I feel like borrowing from their usage in Battlefront (granting ammunition) and their utility as a power generator (Repairing system strain) gives them utility, and a way to use them beyond just plugging them in and letting them be a generator.

Thoughts? I originally had their Wounds at 15, but I thought that made them a bit TOO sturdy.

If you're using them to refuel ships (recover strain) you might want to give them INT 2, maybe increase their Mechanics skill to 2 and give them a rank or two of the Fine Tuning talent. You could restrict it so the talent could only be used when refuelling a ship, if you want to keep the power droid flavour.

I had imagined them as a small walking power core. I would say they could recharge anything that uses electricity (power packs but not blaster packs if you want to be more realistic) or directly power up to Silhouette 2 or perhaps 3 items. Landspeeder is dead? It can jump start it. E-web (or other large piece of gear) power pack goes down? It can help out. A small walking fusion plant. A dumb walking battery. I wouldn't give it much in the way of mechanical skills. Perhaps diagnostic, but the thing is never shown to even have arms or a data socket that I recall.

To keep the "dumb droid" flavor, maybe bump mechanics to 2 instead? That way their actual intellect can stay low, but their SS repair stays high. I like the idea of fine tuning, since they are helping boost power.

I'd love to see a Gonk droid that is sick and tired of being taken for granted and ignored and becomes a serial killer. And nobody ever suspects that the plodding thing is what is crushing people to death in their sleep.

Ponderous is for the Droid to never exceed 2 maneuvers in one turn. Awkward is the ability to add 3 setback to Brawl, Melee, and Coordination checks.

Same could be said for Gank. Or Jabba. Or Sheev...

Just because no one went through the expence of installing a vocabulator in them doesn't mean they necessarily have low INT. It just means that they don't need to talk to non-droids in order to do their jobs.

Astromech droids are relatively intelligent even though they sound like electronic canaries.

Or how about a jukebox conversion !

It may not say they're stupid in cannon, but in legends they're described to have only simple AI.
