Least Favorite Ships?

By Shadow345, in Star Wars: Armada

Victory Class - Too slow, Gladiator is cheaper and faster and Imperial Class is worth the points upgrade for the extra speed and extra attack dice.

Nebulon B - Points cost for durability is a bit too steep.

Raider has been a bit disappointing for me, Gladiator isn't even 10 pts more than it and so much better.

For what it's worth, the new fighter teams are really good on the Yavaris title Nebulon B and the Raider might have a nice place as part of an ensemble with Gladiator and the upcoming Arquitens Light Cruiser.

Assault Frigate- Ugly, doesn't fit aesthetically (to me at least), ugly, did I mention that the ship ruins the look of the battle because it is ugly?

I hope they release title cards that subtract points from ships, as they do in x-wing to fix overcosted ships. Neb is 1st on my list

Each ship have is value depending of wich kind of fleet you are building and the way you are using them.

It's rigth, all the ship don't synergise well with other so it's your job to find the best combo and take the edge of your opponent with it.

Some are maybe use less often but they are all certainly usefull, even that old terrebly slow Victory Class who I like to use as tank or carrier. ;)

In my humble opinion - two words - pros then cons.

Gozanti - cheap but a gamble

Raider - dangerous but fragile

Gladiator - Demolisher but vulnerable

Victory - tough but slow

Interdictor - control but its limited

ISD - powerful but expensive

GR-75 - cheap but a gamble

Corvette - fast but fragile

MC30 - dangerous but expensive

Neb B - Yavaris but with Achilles-heel

AF MII - flexible but dull

Liberty - Powerful but new

MC80 - tough but outclassed

Totally disagree on the neb being fragile

Raider: they have a tendency to die randomly, almost regardless of how well they're flown. And sure, you *can* learn to fly them effectively... but why?

VSD: slow, boring, subtle as a sledgehammer

ISD: just an extremely dull/dumb ship to fly. Using it reduces the game to a question of whether or not my opponent can avoid or otherwise deal with my front arc.

Nebulon B: in the hands of an unskilled player, they usually die while only having lost one shield. In the hands of a skilled one, they approach Demolisher in terms of how obnoxious they are to deal with. I don't find either of these experiences especially satisfying.

... Can you tell I'm a rebel player?

I'll preface this by saying that it's 'least favourite', not 'worst', and for me that's the GSD.

I hate that rubbish, over hyped, cheese-knife resembling piece of garbage. At least I can be happy with the horrendously ugly Rebel Assault frigate by ripping its guts out and having fun with its corpse by turning it into some mangled Tim Burton-esque project that fills me with delight, but the GSD doesn't even have the decency to convert up nicely.

Oh sure, it's a 'good' ship, and its filthy EU ridden stink is nauseating. Frigging Demolisher was a bad idea and they should feel bad for having it. I'm sure there's some better literary or entertainment reference out there, but I'd paraphrase The Hound's position on the Kingsguard if I was feeling just slightly more vitriolic. This all may or may not be tinted with my personal frustration at being unable to make them work in any capacity other than an impotent damage sponge.

After that, there's only one contender and that's the hideously ugly Rebel Assault Frigate. It manages to feel like a proxy model subbed in from someone's silver age sci-fi cartoon after their proper Assault frigate took a swan dive off the edge of a table. It's un-Star Warsy, but at least I can proxy back in a half decent model or one that's been cut and prettied up.

I know the neb isn't bad for people who know how to fly it. I just have never gotten the hang of it.

I have been laughing for a solid 5 minutes from this.

It is easy to say that one ship is worse than another. But remember that all ships even those who looks bad may shine if you play them right.

Any ship will be great in the hands of a great Admiral with a good strategy.

All ships have their weaknes , but when you have a good plan or strategy the ships will back each other up.

I have seen ships that I though I never would use be played with such efficiency that I could not belive it.

So if you play them right, there will be no weak ship in the fleet, for all have their purpose.

In the end the combine strengt of all your ships will win the day.

So in the end I will say that this game have no weak ships only weak admirals with bad strategies.

Assault frigate.

I mean seriously, what is it for?

Assault frigate.

I mean seriously, what is it for?

Plus it is ugly...or did I mention that?

VSD is the best ship in the game.

Assault Frigate is a bit ugly like all rebel ships. Perhaps a bit more so while others are a bit less. Maybe you don't like beer if you drink it for the first time. Maybe you still dislike it the second time or all other times thereafter - but still, it works. If you don't hate it.

I like all the ship designs. EXCEPT (braces for abuse) The CR90.

I dislike the Assault Frigate purely because it looks weird to me. I've seriously considered doing some kind of modification to them so they don't look so fugly. I thought they would grow on me but they have not. I seriously avoid using it in the game based purely on how it looks. A shame because it's actually a nice addition to the rebel ships in the game itself, a balanced, versatile ship usable with several different admirals and fleet designs to good effect.

From a game mechanic PoV I never did get the hang of the MC 80 home one. Required way too much upgrading and doesn't jive well with lots of other rebel ships.

From an aesthetic point of view the ship scores are:

(Drum-roll please)

ISD 9/10 (That's right. Nobody gets a 10/10 ever)

Interdictor 8.5/10

Raider 8.5/10

VSD 8/10

Gladiator 7.5/10

Neb-B 7.5/10

CR90 - 7/10

Gozantis 7/10

Liberty 7/10

MC30c 6/10

GR-75 5.5/10

MC80 5/10

AF mark II 3/10

I think I just figured out why I play Empire.

I personally have found that the Home One needs to be the center piece and make the other ships "jive" with it. Similar to your admiral, if you put Craken in a fleet of large ships, you get no benifit. Home One is in a similar IMO. My current favorite Home One Build is my "Immortal MC80" Ackbar+MC80AC+Repemption and CR90 both w/ projection experts+GR-75 w/ repaire crews. Fly everyone behind the MC80 and everyone spans engi commands. Makes for a very tought to kill crusier. I can post the whole list if you want.

Agreed! Until recently this was the only expansion I didn't own, for exactly the same reason. I got a mk1 from Shapeways at the same time and will only use the Guppy miniature if running a 2 x AF2 list.

My least favorite ships is the Rebel transport. I have hated the look of that stupid [marital aid reference here] since I first saw it in the movies.

It made sense at Hoth. Transports fleeing with cargo and people was the point. Then I had to see the stupid little flying turds show up at Endor for reasons that not even Harry Knowles could explain without sounding stupid.

Then FFG included them in the game because they just kind of had to. Fine. But they made the little suckers useful. So useful that I play them inspite of ny feelings. That is my least favorite ship.

If you had said card, I would complain about Denolisher. But you said ship and I actually like the GSD itself

There is not one single thing I like about the RAF.

Least favorite? asthetically I'm inclined to agree with the comments about the RAFmk2 - though, it has the benefit of being easily kitbashable - I have plans.

Hardest for me to use well? The Raider

The Raider is bad at everything it was designed to, and now the gozanti exists and I never need to fly one of those trash heaps ever again.

It is far from useless at anti squadron play.
