X-Wing 2.0 Realization

By SgtSmithy, in X-Wing

X-Wing 2.0 will not be called X-Wing.

It will be called TIE FIghter.

.........

FFG: this must happen.

Didn't I make this thread already?

Didn't I make this thread already?

Wrong.

It will be called Jumpmaster.

Didn't I make this thread already?

Yes.

Apologies.

Is my n00b showing?

Wrong.

It will be called Jumpmaster.

Can't wait for the Jumpmaster generics being so much useless and overpriced.

So X-wing 3.0 will be X-Wing vs TIE-Fighter and feature a new fascinating multiplayer campaign mode called "Balance of Power" which will be similar to Villains and Heroes of the Aturi Cluster?

Wrong.

It will be called Jumpmaster.

Can't wait for the Jumpmaster generics being so much useless and overpriced.

I think a second addition has the opportunity to change enough aspects of the game that the result would be a bunch of ships coming out from the shadows of being currently useless and overpriced.

Alex Davey's comments about how ordinance could have been designed completely differently, more versatile, and reusable makes me feel like the changes could bring so much more than just inconsequential point or upgrade adjustments to many ships.

Open your mind and consider the possibilities!

Problem is you have to REALLY major changes to almost ALL aspects of the game for it to be different from the current form of "fixes" AND such major change makes it an almost new game. Risking the loss of major parts of the current fan-base.

Personally I like the game now, the way they are fixing the game, and how it "evolves".. I love the game, have bought multiple copies of each ship and if x-wing 2.0 appears I will most likely stop and stick to x-wing 1.0.

That kind of thinking must make a second edition of X-Wing seem unnecessary or unwanted.

As long as the old minis are still compatible with the "second edition".

Common points raised in these threads:

A 2.0 will never happen! All the original players will not buy it!

A 2.0 box could never happen! It wouldn't sell/make enough money!

Why 2.0? 1.0 just needs more errata and rules changes!

------

I have said a lot of nay over the last few months about a 2.0 version myself. But between the rules bloat, new attack timing chart, and all the FAQ'd language on the cards, it may be about time. The game has changed so much from what Jay Little designed (and has had what? 5 different designers over the four years the game has been out?) and continues to change so much that it's almost unrecognizable as the same game. I think that FFG proved with Descent 2.0 that they are willing to update one of their games. I think that the rules that are used in the game now vary SO MUCH from what's in the book that comes in the box that either they put an 'updated rules' book in core sets going forward, or they have to do 2.0. If they did it like Descent and offered replacements for cards and cardboard (at a reasonable price point) I'll bet they couldn't keep it in stock.

tl;dr Thread has been done before and it 2.0 will probably happen

I just hope that if/when they do an X-Wing 2.0, that it is also released with an Armada 2.0, Imperial Assault 2.0, and Star Wars RPG 2.0, and that they are all cross-compatible .

A couple weeks ago (actually it was on the Shuttle Tyderium podcast, the one where they interview Josh Derksen) I heard about an old mech miniatures game that also had a compatible RPG system. So you could be playing the RPG and get into a mech battle, and then bust out your mech minis and use the miniature game rules to play out the battle.

I know some fans have done similar things with X-Wing/Armada/Imperial Assault /SWRPG, but it would rock if it was all seamlessly built into the game systems to begin with. So like they use the same dice, probably similar to Imperial Assault where different dice do different things. For example you could have "Force dice" that a Force-sensitive character could add to their rolls and would do different/similar things depending on whether you were on foot or in a star fighter or on the command deck of a capital ship directing a large space battle. Also having one underlying system for all 4 game systems would be awesome.

Anyway, that's my 2 cents.

Obviously they would make a conversion kit.

Will they? It's all a matter of what would make more profit.

ut I sincerely hope they make a conversion kit, or at least sell new cards and dials for old ships.

As long as FFG doesn't pull an "Age of Sigmar" type total reboot and make Xwing a goofy shell of its former self, I'd be ok with a 2.0

X-wing 2.0 will be called backgammon

Is this thread a crutch?

Oh god.

If you say "I'll try spinning. That's a good trick," while performing a barrel roll, that ship receives an evade token.

Well simple stuff could be done. Let's say a second set of movement templates for large based ships would go a long way. A few slightly re-designed pilots that are already in the game that are just outdated or never worked quite right. (Say 6 from each faction from various ships.) Add more conditions going back to wave one and streamline that whole concept and make it an actual part of game play.

Player with the best wheeze gets to reroll rerolls.

If you are able to successfully Force Choke a team mate while saying, "I find your lack of faith disturbing," you succeed in all attack and defense rolls for the remainder of the game (except against Luke Skywalker).

The kind of design constraints that would impose would be really, really insane.
