Will Palp have the same fate like C3PO (free tournament card?)

By IG88E, in X-Wing

I would not mind if they never release the emperor as a promo. For casual play simply print him out and use it. In tournament play step up and buy the Raider.

If your too cheap to buy the ship then deal with a printed out copy at your own house. Hardly the end of the world for you.

But given C-3PO being released with large ship then released as a promo it is very likely they will promo it sometime.

Old Palps would make up for a good tournament prize, just like the TIE/x1 title. Maybe the emperor has more chances, being a crew card as it is.

I'd love a free Palpatine. I really liked getting an alt art C-3PO despite owning the Tantive IV one since release, and I'd really like getting an alt art Palpatine despite owning the Raider one since release. I see absolutely no downsides to it being available for free.

And if it's given away for tournament participation, it's not really free at all in the first place.

Considering they just reprinted the raider, doubtful this is happening anytime soon. Once sales of that ship bottom out or they need to infuse excitement in the community, maybe then.

YES. Absolutely, this will happen.

It's a strong possibility. Having an alt art palp would be cool, maybe him on his throne...

I'd like to see Senator Palp .

It would be the best strategy to wait a while for sales to bottom out on Raider.

Palpatine is one of the major reasons to buy the Raider, they would be foolish to give him away too soon.

I hope so, then I can laugh at all those who paid $30 or more just for the Palp card :D

Raiders by themselves without the TIE Advanced ship, cards, and Palp have been extremely cheap at times; the best I've seen is around $30. I have to assume that once sales slow down after people stop buying Raiders to keep the Palp and part the rest out, that they will increase a bit. Or maybe they'll get even cheaper? I would love to have another Raider or two, just to have to sit on a shelf, so cheaper would be nice.

I hope they don´t give it away for free. I bought the Raider just for that card (like a lot of people I guess) and the card itself holds considerable value since that´s the only way to acquire it. X-wing has in some ways become a CCG since so many of the expansions are only worth it for many people because of the cards included. The fact that they gave C3P0 away (having purchased the CR90 for that card and R2D2) is part of the reason I haven´t bought the Gozanti yet. I want Agent Kallus but I feel the cards don´t hold their value any more. I know a lot of people feel otherwise and I respect their opinion.

That's a bit selfish isn't it? What about people who can't afford all the ships?

Will you not thing about the children? ;-)

I really think he has a point, I don't think that his point is strong enough as the promo cards create a clear drive for tournament play and having those cards around is a positive thing for the community. Besides they could fix the issue that Vader is only useable with the cards from the raider in a better way. Handling out the /x1 Title in game night kits and the advanced targeting computer in championship kits, maybe even Palpatine for regionals … it should give the tournament scene a boost, while at the same time get away the huge amount of flak they got on their decision to put those cards onto the raider.

Though most people's real issue is that TIE/AD fix, having Palp on the raider is annoying, but still okish. That TIE/AD is really never should have been on a $100 ship, even when they get bonus points for delivering at least 4 per raider. Makes it easy to lend or buy the fix second hand. Additional distributing it via tournament kits would be still so much better.

The trouble with /x1 is that it goes so hand-in-hand with ATC, issuing just one of them as a promo would be an iffy choice for me.

Maybe a double-width upgrade card with one side ATC and /x1 and the other just /x1 would be cool.

This topic is both hilarious and sobering.

Thank God for that...

A palp promo that's double wide would make a nice prize for a seasonal kit.

If you can't afford a Raider, ebay exists. Ofc, if oyu can afford ebay, you can probably afford to buy a raider, sell the other upgrades and the Raider bits, including 3 ATCs and x1s and actually pay less overall for your palp. Maybe even negative money.

What's it like in the parallel universe that's exactly like ours only it doesn't have opportunity costs?

Quite pleasant actually.

*shrug* if you're willing to invest a bit of time, you can buy a raider, sell everything but palp, and get palp for free or better.

if not, he goes for about a tenner on ebay last time I looked, and it's up to you if you think that's value for money.

I personally don't.

"Too Cheap" is something you say about an upgrade that costs more to ship than it's worth. Not something priced at four expansions. Really glad your bank is better than theirs.

If your a casual player simply print a copy of the cards you need and stop whining.

If your a "serious" tournament player and play in any tournaments past just a local store then grow up, get a job, and buy the ships needed. If you can afford gas to go to regionals then you can afford to buy the ship.

I've lost track - what are we arguing about now?

Is it about N1s and Aethersprites coming to X-Wing?

Yes, yes it is.

(It's not)

I think the OP has some great commentary on our changing meta. We have gotten lost after the first post, but for better or worse, the TC is (partially*) correct.

Hopefully the mechanics/combinations to be discovered and introduced are balanced and make the game we know and love bigger and better - and not just 18 red dice per turn that cannot be blocked.
