Post-HotR Dash Build; Less Super, but possibly better

By StriderZessei, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Dash Rendar:

-Veteran Instincts

-Rey

-Heavy Laser Cannon (HLC)

-Outrider title

-Snuggling Compartments

-Black Market Slicer Tools (BMST)

Kanan Jarrus:

-Fire Control System (FCS)

-Autoblaster Turret (ABT)

-Jan Ors

-Recon Specialist

Total Cost: 99

For the longest time, Dash's greatest weakness has been Aces who can safely maneuver into range one, AKA the donut hole, of his HLC. With this build, Dash has a new way to deal with them that Palpatine cannot save them from: BMST. It can't be evaded, and it ignores shields, so TAPs and Interceptors take notice! Also, the VCX has the ABT which cannot be avoided when it rolls hits.

Also, with VI raising his Pilot Skill to 9, Dash can re-position himself after the aces, unless they choose to try and block him (depending on who has initiative.)

Jan and Rey have tremendous synergy. first off, when Kanan focuses, he gets two focus tokens thanks to Recon Specialist. Jan can change one of those to an evade token. Once per turn, Rey can bank one an unused focus token on the Outrider. Her card does not state any limit on how many tokens can be banked, just one per turn. Finally, when she distributes a focus, Jan can turn that into an evade. This, along with Kanan's ability to restrict enemy dice, makes this already tanky list even tankier.

Give me your thoughts: Is Dash DOA without Push the Limit and Engine Upgrade? Would I be better off sacrificing an Initiative bid to give the VCX Accuracy Corrector? How much do you think Wave IX and HotR will shake up big ships?

Did you include the outrider title? If not that's cool, I'm just a little shocked to see a dash rendar without it.

Oops! Fixed.

I am completely new to Rebels and Imps (just recently bought my friend's collection and only played scum before). As such I'm only partly aware of the various metas but I like the synergies here. Let me know how it goes? I might even grab it to try in my first outrider fight.

I'd almost prefer Feedback Array to BMST, simply because it's guaranteed to work. It makes Dash's donut hole an actual no-go zone for aces; sure, he'll have to take damage to use the bug zapper, but that's totally worth it to take a hull from Soontir or the Inquisitor. BMST meanwhile can be avoided either through RNG or just not pushing the limit.

It's true that the slicer tools aren't guaranteed but making an inquisitor choose between damage or PTL can be pretty potent, especially someone like Soontir. That said, Feedback array is a decent alternative for the reason you mentioned about guaranteed damage.

I would rather not damage and ionize Dash. Also, Feedback Array deals damage, while BMST inflict cards through shields, meaning Dash could possibly two-shot TAPs.

Rey can only save a token on "your" ship, which means the ship she's crewing.

Considering my list didn't have the synergy I thought it did, try this on for size:

YT-2400: · Dash Rendar (36)

Veteran Instincts (1)

Heavy Laser Cannon (7)

Smuggling Compartment (0)

· Rey (2)

· Outrider (5)

Black Market Slicer Tools (1)

VCX-100: · Kanan Jarrus (38)

Fire Control System (2)

· Jyn Erso (2)

Gunner (5)

With this Jyn can shovel focus tokens into Dash to use or save, while FCS and Gunner make up for Kanan's lack of actions.

I think Rey works good enough on her own, you don't have to synergize her with any other crew. In your build Jyn seems counterproductive - if you're using her to fuel Rey, you aren't using your action to focus Kanan. Still, you can use her effectively both for Kanan and Dash, so that's something (note that Rey can only bank 1 focus/round though), but you have to keep having 2+ ships in your arc for it to be worth it.
