Still trying to come up with a new Rebel card

This one seemed like a reasonable alternative to the new Han ability. 2 points seemed like a fair price because even though being able to move any of your ships and ruin an enemy's placement is a powerful ability, it's just single use and you might not even make effective use of it.

You don't need the rules for if there are multiple Bothan Spies. Initiative was basically built for stuff like this.

That said, this is kind of meh. It's two points AND a crew slot for something that doesn't matter much, as you're still restricted to your own deployment zone.

I think a Bothan Spy could read:

After all players have deployed all ships, choose one enemy ship. You may redeploy that ship anywhere within range 3 of your opponent's edge of the board.

Or, alternatively,

During setup, you place all 6 obstacle tokens.

Or, even better,

During the combat phase, instead of performing any attacks, choose an upgrade card on an enemy ship at range 1-3. Roll a red dice. On a [hit] or [critical hit] result, discard that card.

Like Boba Fett but meaner. You'd have to discard the Bothan as well for sure. How many points would it cost? It would need to be pricey.

I'd prefer to see "Bothan Spy" as a ship card - but with no ship (bear with me on this) - and have an accompanying Condition.

Not sure of a cost, just the mechanics...

...so it would form part of your fleet, and some stage during the game you could destroy (flip face down) at the beginning of the Combat Phase to allow the Condition to come into play.

Then, the Condition permits the player, at any point in the Combat phase when a friendly ship is attacking, to apply a Wampa-style effect but granting a face up damage card that cannot be prevented by other cards or abilities.

It represents discovering some Achilles Heel in the target through espionage*, but your opponents gets "points" for it... because... well, we know why, right?!

The reason I'd make it a ship is for ease of victory points calculation, and not creating some special exception like there is for Nashtah.

* = That being said, we don't know conclusively that it was espionage - they may have been slaughtered in a diversionary attack - or in a frontal assault on the location the plans were acquired from... but I think people prefer the cloak-n-dagger option (though, they're not really well suited to infiltrate and Empire organisation that seems predominantly human.

there's no discard mechanic?

if there's one thing bothan spies are known for, it's dying (and in greater numbers)

Well, not really. You are giving up your whole attack for something that might not even work, and the cheapest ship you an put it on is currently a hawk. I guess you could decrease the range. I just feel like it might be a nice counter for Palp Aces and anything with R2-D2. Although it is definitely movie accurate that Palpatine and R2-D2 are the two most powerful characters in the universe.

Yeah, you're right... I guess you could just have the Bothan spy be like Boba. Discard the card, skip your attack, kill Palpatine. Good deal.

nah you'd need em all to be 1 point upgrades

and then you hit an enemy upgrade card by discarding X bothans, where X is the point cost of the upgrade card you want discarded

remember it's not "a bothan died to give us this information"
