Ship name placard?

By Maturin, in Star Wars: Armada Painting and Modification

Has anyone come up with a good way to display your ships' super-awesome names that you've thought of?

I'm thinking of using plasticard (or something similar) in the slot behind the ship stand, instead of a boring old number.

Anyone done this, and any photos I can C̶o̶p̶y̶ pay an homage to?

I was in the process of 3D Printing a set of Title Placards to take the place of the Number Token on the base...

No but I've been really really -really- wanting to do just that. I love the idea... I wonder if one might 3D design some placards for a certain on-demand print company and add a customization option for names and what not.

I'm an old fashioned kind of guy - I was thinking a piece of cardboard with a printed piece of paper glued on to it.

What size would be best? Title on both sides? Black background, white lettering, or reversed?

Remember a matching placard to place by the ship card (unless on the upgrade card).

Use Microsoft Excel......you can create any kind of design you like and , it als has a huge supply of fonts . I have made many ship cards and name placards using the program. I like it because you can create a design, by creating it's seperate components , then cut an paste on a new excel sheet and manipulate the various components location, Better than any program I have ever used.

I've found a company online that does 30mm x 16mm (smallest I could find) engraved plaques for £1 plus postage. Cut a same sized bit of black poly-board for the back making it 2mm deep, and should work a charm. Just need to pick a font, and will be ordering a few to try shortly. Will post pics.

Sounds pretty awesome Dedmanzhand, I'd love to see how those turn out! I'm still pretty dead-set on figuring these out for my campaign ships.

Hmm, I don't know Stuh, I do love me some photoshop :P . I've never been able to make Excel work as well as PS or its free alternative, GIMP.

I like excel a lot, you can do up cheat sheets or designs. I play Sails of Glory and made a lot of counters for the game, plus ship displays as well. I guess it depends on what you normally use, I cannot afford a new computer program, so I improvise. Just go to a craft store, buy a pack of glossy card stock, and with a color printer you are set. The ship placards I made for my SSD on this forum, so it can be done with very little cost.
