Two Sigmas and a Shuttle

By Boba Rick, in X-Wing

Is this a terrible idea? I want to run two phantoms and I've become enamored with the idea of a Gunner + FCS.

Sigma Squadron Pilot (34) x 2
TIE Phantom (25), Gunner (5), Fire-Control System (2), Stygium Particle Accelerator (2)

Omicron Group Pilot (32)
Lambda-Class Shuttle (21), Fire-Control System (2), Gunner (5), Engine Upgrade (4)

It's a z95 with the evade action, it'll get PS killed all over the place.

Yeah, I have to agree here. I've tried to run low PS Phantoms to varying degrees of success. Usually they just get killed without making their points back. They are just too squishy and rely on green dice to much. If they were slightly cheaper, they could be great. They are priced for pre nerf movement and it shows.

Hmmm. Still trying to figure out a decent two phantom list. I appreciate the help.

What's better?

A)

“Whisper” [Gunner, Fire-Control System, Veteran Instincts, Advanced Cloaking Device] (44)

“Echo” [Gunner, Fire-Control System, Veteran Instincts, Advanced Cloaking Device] (42)

Academy Pilot [Twin Ion Engine Mk. II] (13)

B)

“Whisper” (39) TIE Phantom (32), Fire-Control System (2), Veteran Instincts (1), Advanced Cloaking Device (4)

“Echo” (37) TIE Phantom (30), Fire-Control System (2), Veteran Instincts (1), Advanced Cloaking Device (4)

Academy Pilot (12) x 2

C)

“Whisper” (39) TIE Phantom (32), Fire-Control System (2), Veteran Instincts (1), Advanced Cloaking Device (4)

“Echo” (35) TIE Phantom (30), Veteran Instincts (1), Advanced Cloaking Device (4)

Omicron Group Pilot (25) Lambda-Class Shuttle (21), Engine Upgrade (4)

D)

“Whisper” (39) TIE Phantom (32), Fire-Control System (2), Veteran Instincts (1), Advanced Cloaking Device (4)

“Echo” (35) TIE Phantom (30), Veteran Instincts (1), Advanced Cloaking Device (4)

Tomax Bren (25) TIE Bomber (24), Crack Shot (1)

Of the ones you listed I would pick A or possibly C. Your phantoms are now either decked out to the max or about as slim as can be. I think there is a middle ground that is slightly better than either, especially for Echo who has less than Whisper to gain from the buzzaw build.

If you wanna run Whisper and Echo this 99 pts squad might be an idea:

Whisper, VI, Kallus, FCS, ACD

Echo, VI, Intel agent, FCS, ACD

Sienar test pilot, title, prockets.

Intel agent and Kallus helps against your worst matchups (higher PS), and the prockets can help by taking a chunk out of your second worst matchup (turrets). The test pilot also makes for a better blocker than the tie fighter.

But don't abandon Sigmas just yet! They are awesome! Best blockers in the game.

The single list I have the best win to loose record with is without a doubt this:

3 Sigmas, SPA, Intel Agent

Backstabber

Really, try it.

Sigmas also go well in squads with strong endgame ships, so for example:

1) Sigma, IA, SPA (28) soontir (35) Inq with prockets (34) (or vader/slim whisper...)

2) Sigma as above (28) OL (26) Buzzsaw Whisper (44)

3) 2x Sigma with sensor jammer, SPA and IA (32), and jax (34)

I like the idea of two Phantoms and a Lambda. Start the Lambda off in the middle and fly the Phantoms in behind it from both directions, mans then break both off after the first attack? But the lower-PS Phantoms just aren't that good at this point in time, as has been pointed out. I like your "C" list or Calibri's Whisper/Echo/TAP list the best.

I like your first list, but I would drop gunner on Echo for Intel agent or recon spec. Echo doesn't need to rely on gunner as much as Whisper does. Also, Echo needs FCS if he doesnt have recon spec cause he needs to keep a focus for defense, FCS gives him offense mods.

Dark Curse can block high PS for you, and with initiative he can block brobots as well. His ability keeps him alive for a long time, can even soak up torpedos.

“Whisper” (44)
TIE Phantom (32), Gunner (5), Fire-Control System (2), Veteran Instincts (1), Advanced Cloaking Device (4)

“Echo” (38)
TIE Phantom (30), Intelligence Agent (1), Fire-Control System (2), Veteran Instincts (1), Advanced Cloaking Device (4)

“Dark Curse” (16)

I might try C myself, but with Vader on the shuttle instead of EU.

I've run a pair of FCS SPA IA Sigmas with Vessery or Deathrain. FCS of course feeds Vessery, but the pair of Intel agents helps direct Deathrain's drops.

i made second place at a tournament a couple weeks ago with this,

Whisper -stygian particle accelerator,adaptability,fcs
Echo -veteran instinct,fcs,stygian particle accelerator
Omicron shuttle- uncle wrinkly
its quite a fun squad.

I've been having fun with these two lists:

2x Shadow Squadron Pilot + Systems Officer + Stygium Particle Accelerator (31)

Procket VI Vader, or any other 38 point ace of your choice preferably PS10+

Fly the shadow squadrons in a pair. You can decloak them in the same direction, do a 2 bank or 2 forward and hand off TL's to each other. TL+Focus+Evade hits pretty hard, especially if you can get range 1! Procket Vader doesn't suck either.

or

Whisper/FCS/Kallus/ACD/VI

Echo/Lone Wolf/Recon Spec/Sensor Jammer/ACD

Dark Curse or 14-16 points of your choice

Fly them as willy-nilly and unpredictably as you can. Echo can hold her own, Whisper is as whisper is, and Dark Curse is 16 points of super annoying. Fun lists!

Here is something different.

TIE Phantom: · "Echo" (30)

Decoy (2)

Fire Control System (2)

Advanced Cloaking Device (4)

TIE Phantom: · "Whisper" (32)

Veteran Instincts (1)

Fire Control System (2)

Advanced Cloaking Device (4)

TIE/fo Fighter: · "Epsilon Ace" (17)

Stealth Device (3)

Comm Relay (3)

You get a turn or two of Echo at PS12, maybe more if you are lucky.
