Ramming and crossing the movement stick.

By Mad Cat, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

So my MC30 is speed 4 and has no nav token/command but would like to turn left as much as possible.

I pick up the movement tool and plot straight, left, left and straight.

I can lock this in on the left or right side of the ships base as the lack of yaw in the final stage means either way I don't overlap the tool with a small based ship.

I lock it in on the right side of the base and begin measuring but - disaster - an enemy raider is slightly overlapped. If I reduce the move to a 3 I won't overlap any ships but will cross my movement tool. Is this legal?

Do I therefore reduce the movement again? It would still cross the tool so have to reduce the manoeuvre to speed 1)?

Alternativley

Do I have to change the movement tool over to the left side of the base and then evaluate the overlaps afresh (which may no longer occur)?

Its legal.

In fact, the ONLY time it is legal to be overlapping your Maneuver Tool is during a ram.

RRG, PAGE 8 "Overlapping"

• If a ship must execute a maneuver at a reduced speed due to overlapping another ship, it is allowed to overlap the maneuver tool in its final position.

Also (and correct me if I'm wrong) if you're eyeballing the movement tool, because of clutter, then your ship doesn't overlap the movement tool.

The Rules in the RRG assume one of two things:

You're always physically able to get the Tool on the Table.

or

You're holding the tool above the table and eyeballing the movement, as an exception.

All of the Movement rules are written with the First in place. The Tool is physically on the table. Every Rule on movement should be read with that thought in mind.

If you are eyeballing movement for one reason or another with the tool held above, then you must operate with the assumption that your tool is actually on the table, and you thus not allowed to place a ship overlapping it, unless it is part of an Overlap.
