I know this probably won't happen, but I was just thinking about how I'm going to store my dice and thought it would be so cool if there was a way to get the FFG Star Wars Dice App. This would make it possible to play anywhere if you just slip your 35 or so cards into your pocket and use your smartphone for the dice. I'm sure it would be very easy to implement. Anyways, I'm just curious to know what the rest of you guys think and if anyone else has considered this.
Star Wars Dice App
An awesome idea. And since the dice app is an official program, you might even be able to use it for competitive play.
But I wonder if it would effect things purchasing singles? Could you get cards sans dice?
So the primary reason that you'd want a second copy of a character is so you can field them with 2 dice. The card you only one of, so really it's that 2nd dice that you need.
Having Destiny work on the SW Dice App would mean that players would no longer need to get that 2nd copy of any character card. That means people are buying less product.
Also, unlike the games that utilize the SW Dice App the dice in this game are in play for prolonged periods of time after their initial roll. You could have a turn in which your first action is to activate your characters, but you have a dozen actions before you start resolving those dice. In that period of time those dice need to be out and displayed for your opponent to be be to view and access. So you're talking about essentially leaving your device in the center of the table to display your dice pool. It's pretty impractical and on a number of smaller phones would likely prove to be problematic as far as how big the display is.
Lastly, the quality of the dice is one of the big marketing aspects of this game. The process, the size, the use of art on the dice; all big things FFG seems to want to emphasize. It's one of the things that's going to immediately contrast this game and it's competitors, like Dice Masters. FFG wants these dice on the table to demonstrate to even a casual observer why you should pay $3 for their booster instead of a $1 for the DM booster.
And I know I said lastly but it just occurred to me that this game would require them to program exponentially more different unique dice into the app then every other game that utilizes it. Just this base set would be triple the scope of what they currently have.
So whole I don't want to just shoot down your idea but I can not see FFG integrating Destiny into the Dice App because of the 4 reasons I just gave.
Edited by ScottieATFBecause the dice get more than rolled you would have to use a proxy, so as to position the dice. Ask yourself would you be OK playing a proxy for the dice in the app that wasn't the actual dice itself?
