Armada E-Wings - hint at what they'll do in X-wing?

By mazz0, in X-Wing

It's not about Corran being overpowered. The problem is: Corran is so much better than the generics and (outside of Epic) Ethan. So something that improves the E-Wing in general just makes Corran better.

This is the fix I thought for the non-Corran E-Wings:

Why doesn't that help Corran?

Because high PS pilots would not benefit by the action-before-attack bonus.

C'mon, c'mon, c'mon... my idea is the BEST here! How cool is it to snipe all the way across the mat? Every miniatures game in the world gives you characters that can do that... EXCEPT THIS GAME!

Yeah.

Maybe the enemy looses his range 3 defense bonus.

A title that added that ability would be a nice bonus without being overpowered. It has the usual problem though that it boosts all E-Wings equally meaning that people would likely still run Coran and none of the other pilots.

I doubt the E-Wing is very high on their priority fix list anyway.

I have given up trying to work out what FFG consider needs fixing. I would not have thought Poe needed much work yet he gets a new version in HOTR. Imperial Veterans shows that FFG do give love to underpowered ships but does not give much indication of their reasoning.

Expect the E Wing to be in the Rebel Veterans Pack when it is announced. It will come.... sometime next year perhaps.

Snipe - treat all range 3 attacks as range 2 for purposes of extra evade, and autothrusters is perfect!

That droid... would be strange. It would essentially make any E-wing a perfect arc-dodger whenever an opportunity to arc-dodge would present itself and it would make it completely immune to blocking. Come to think of it, they would become the perfect blockers as well. On the other hand now that more and more shield-piercing effects are introduced into the game, 2 hull looks very vulnerable and I think that any fix for E-wing would have to address it somehow.

They could certainly exceed range 3 for standard play. They've done it already twice with target locks. Maybe just make some ability that says you can only attack at range 3 and beyond, but cannot attack at range 1 or 2?

OK the flaw in your logic is that you don't need to use your firing arc for target locking. For attacking you need to be able to keep your range ruler within your firing arc and that becomes troublesome if your firing at someone on the other side of the board.

-and for the Long Range Sensors you still need the range roller as your measuring if your range three or more from the ship you are attempting to target lock.

Just give give the E-wing this "snipe/headshoot" title:

When attacking at range 2 or 3, you may add one hit result to your roll.

If you do, you may not attack again this round.

You'll have to add "during the attack phase" so corran couldn't use it on his 2nd shot.

Only in very specific situations. Usually the trusty Eyeball MkI will be enough. How often will it happen that someone on the other side of the board will be at the edge of your arc?

Well, nobody wants to hear this now that the entire forum is currently having a huge fuss about turrets, but this only really works if it's a turret... for casual play, it's ok to eyeball, but tournaments are another matter. Even then you have to add "consider all ships to be outside of your firing arc" because of other firing arc dependent things. And then it helps Kavil way too much.

I doubt it. E-wings are already in X-wing so if anything it is what X-wing can do that may hint at what Armada E-wings will do. Just because you have Armada A-wings and TIE Interceptors that have counter doesn't mean that soon all A-wings and TIE Interceptors will have Dengar's pilot ability.

Now if you are looking at Armada for a sneak peak than look no further than Nym and his Scourge H-6 Bomber. It is the only starfighter ship to come out for Armada first and hasn't been in X-wing. Now what will that do it is hard to tell. It is a bomber so expect a 2x torpedo slot, maybe a torpedo and a missile slot. It is Rebel but it came out of the Rouges and Villains pack so it could be Scum also. Nym would be a pilot. And that's pretty much else.

What about an e-wing title that allows you to shoot using the firing arc of another e-wing on the board, but means you can't fire twice?

Just give give the E-wing this "snipe/headshoot" title:

it would be ok for Corran to fire with 4 dice on his 2nd attack, just as long as he cannot fire 2 times 4 attack dice in a round.

That gives him the option of firing 4 dice this round, and 4 dice next round, or 3 and 4 dice this round but no dice next round.

I love this idea. Remove the restriction on it having to be another E-Wing's firing arc though and let it attack using any allied ship's firing arc (MAYBE within range 3 so it doesn't get ridiculous). Very advanced F-35 type systems upgrade that I think fits the E-Wing perfectly.

Maybe the enemy looses his range 3 defense bonus.
