If you look at my signature you will see what I already own, haven't played in a tournament since wave 7 so that's when the need to buy things drifted off to a want.
My "problem" is I'm itching to fly something new and I now have a huge selection to choose from but the budget only has room for one purchase. I'd love to fly some more scum but I don't know.

What's "something new" going to mean to you? What have you played before if you're looking for a new experience or just the more current version of something you've played before?
Although they are ancient tech I don't see the TIE Interceptor expansion (Fel) or the TIE Advanced (Vader plus uses the stuff from the Raider) on there. Of coure the TAP (TIE Advance Prototype = Inquisitor) is one of the new crop for Imperial goodness. I also guess that Imperial Veterans would provide a boost if you want to use that Defender you've got.
Right now it seems that flying Scum is all about the U-Boats/Jumpmasters but they're often fielded in multiples.
So many possibilities so very few straight answers are possible.

Imperial Veterans is a solid choice, making your previous investment in a Tie Defender pay back.
If you want to play around with more Scum, the Jumpmaster is popular. While StevenO is correct that Jumpmasters are usually seen in multiples, you can still do good stuff with just one.
If you don't mind waiting another week or so, the Shadow Caster is coming out, which looks interesting to fly.
My vote is the TAP! Out of the package, with the Proton Rockets you have from Rebel Aces, a fun build is just a Sienar Test Pilot, with the V1 title, Guidance Chips and Proton Rockets. It comes to 20pts even. Spend your $30, get two, use Howlrunner with Squad leader(also 20pts even)for a 3 ship mini swarm that comes to 60pts, that hits very hard at Range one, and then spend 40pts to taste with a Decimator or Firespray or Defender. Should be a fun, if not crazy competitive list.
I think it's a $40 expansion, but if you're interested in Scum I really enjoy the Hound's Tooth. It was easily my favorite ship of Wave 7 and only got better with Wave 8. The 180 degrees of firing arc is pretty much unmatched, and it has a respectable dial that makes its coverage insane. Plus, all of the 3 unique pilots have neat little niches and shenanigans they can pull.
A second Aggressor is also a great idea, two of those is a somewhat popular list and has a lot of powerful versions you can fly.
Otherwise, Imperial Veterans is a fantastic buy.

Certainly is. This one at 6:19 and the first one at 5:31. I normally start my viewing at the top. Sad things is that looking at the other thread I'm guessing this was somehow started accidently while the OP was trying to reply to the original.
