Purchasing a new ship and I need your suggestions please

By thebigeb2589, in X-Wing

If you look at my signature you will see what I already own, haven't played in a tournament since wave 7 so that's when the need to buy things drifted off to a want.

My "problem" is I'm itching to fly something new and I now have a huge selection to choose from but the budget only has room for one purchase. I'd love to fly some more scum but I don't know.

Take a glance at what I have, if you could only spend $30.00 what would u buy

Me it would be punishing one or hounds tooth, both are ships that come with a decent amount of upgrades and are easy to build a list around, though the yv 666 loves crew from the mist hunter expansion

If you're going for Scum, I'd pick up the Mist Hunter expansion. Unfortunately, that leaves you with a dead $10, but maybe you can find a sale and pick up another ship with it. If so, I'd go for the Protectorate Starfighter. That would give you a slow, bulky ship and a fast, agile one.

The Punishing One is also a good choice.

All good suggestions.

If you're considering playing Rebels, the Ghost Expansion (VCX-100) comes with a lot of really good crew/upgrades and has two ships in it.

Imperial Veterans! Defender's are super fun!

I'm not a fan of the Ghost myself. That being said, a new set comes out the 22nd so you may want to just gather up a little more and get as much of it as you can afford

I agree.. they are a personal favorite of mine too

If you want to go Scum, get a JM5K.

Your collection really wants a Misthunter for the Zuckuss and 4-L0M crew, and a YV-666 for so you can run big Bossk or the popular Party Bus. Unfortunately, those things are all dependent on crew from other ships outside your $30 range.

If you purchase a Punishing One (Jumpmaster 5000), then you'll at least be able to field a modest Dengar or Tel Trevura alongside your TLT Y-Wings or IG-88B.

...I also can't help but notice that you have a Shuttle, a Decimator, and a Raider, but no TIE Advance or TIE Interceptor packs (so you're missing Soontir and Vader), so if you ever wanted to do my favorite list of Palp Deci + Ace, you could easily have a tournament ready list with one small ship purchase (although I guess it's really two ships in Soontir's case, since you'd also need a Starviper for autothrusters).

Seconded.

Thanks for all the fast feedback everyone

What's "something new" going to mean to you? What have you played before if you're looking for a new experience or just the more current version of something you've played before?

Although they are ancient tech I don't see the TIE Interceptor expansion (Fel) or the TIE Advanced (Vader plus uses the stuff from the Raider) on there. Of coure the TAP (TIE Advance Prototype = Inquisitor) is one of the new crop for Imperial goodness. I also guess that Imperial Veterans would provide a boost if you want to use that Defender you've got.

Right now it seems that flying Scum is all about the U-Boats/Jumpmasters but they're often fielded in multiples.

So many possibilities so very few straight answers are possible.

PS. Copied from the "other" place this topic was posted so much of this may already be said.

Jumpmaster! ;)

...you have Rebel ships and Most Wanted....and you don't have a HWK-290??!!

Your lack of the TIE Interceptor is disturbing. Soontir Fel is currently in a very good spot, especially as you can run a Palp Shuttle and you got imperial aces and the firespray for nearly all the needed updates … except one starviper for two autothrusters.

So my buying advice would be TIE Interceptor Expansion + Starviper. That should be around $30, running Fel + Jax as Palp Aces is a very solid list. If you get a good deal on the ships or overspend a little you might consider getting the inquisitor on top for a bit of build options. But this is coming from an imperial ace player, so I am biased towards buying aces. :)

The other variant would be to get Imperial Veterans, you already got one, you get the red one from Ryad in the expansion and the new titles. Running Vessery along with Ryad and Palp shuttle or 2 more expensive defenders with TIE-Shuttle is quite a good list too. That variant gets a plus for not needing a starviper for autothrusters, but it gets a minus as you want theoretical a TIE-Punisher for the Ion Engine MK2 modifications, especially when you run Ryad with PTL you really want at least one punisher for those Ion Engine MK2 upgrades. If you have Juke for your defenders the need for those MK2 upgrades is a lot less strong.

Get a Tie Phantom to go with one of those Decimators.

Imperial Veterans. With your existing TIE Defender, Raider, Lambda and Punisher you have a great list with Vessery, X7, Juke + Ryad X7, PTL, TIEmk2 + Omicron group pilot + Emperor

You could probably fit both in for that price.

Fan Rau, Manaroo, Zuckuss sounds like a fun list. :)

Punishing One

Buy imp vets you don't own enough defenders.

What about the Shadow Caster? It has that IG-88 crew card that would go well with your single IG-2000.

If you are going tournaments, a second IG-2000 would get you a pretty good build. I know it is kinda boring with all the new shiny toys out, but it still makes a solid build.

As everyone else says the Punishing One, but they work best in pairs.

As he has no G-1A, means he has no Zuckuss Crew, which means that he needs not only a pair of Jumpmasters, but as well the G-1A. Given the budget limitations in the opening post … not really helpful, while I still mentioned it before too. Fan+Zuckuss+Manaroo is about $45 dollar or so, should be a fun list and can be expanded by another punishing one to Dangeroo as well.

Shadow Caster is $40 itself and out of the current given budget, furthermore I don't really see good builds based on what he got. Though I might be wrong on that. Maybe Ventress + a broBot works already.
