A somewhat "canonical" campaign...

By lecudas, in Game Masters

I am aware that EotE came out before the new "Canon" was released by Lucasfilm/Disney. It therefore has many elements from "Legends." That's fine.

However, I would like to run a campaign that is compatible with the new "Canon." I don't mind including "Legends" elements, as long as they do not directly contradict the "Canon." So, looking at the adventure "Long Arm of the Hutt"I find references to Geonosians... In the new canon, Geonosis was "sterilized" and very few Geonosians survived.

Have anyone else given this any thoughts? How would you handle that in my situation?

Take the name "Geonosis" and "Geonosian" and replace them with something else. Just a few renames should ace it.

There wasn’t a lot of explanation for how the Geonosians were wiped, where they went, if/how they recovered, etc….

So, you could place your adventure before the time of the wipe, and not change anything.

Or, you could have your own explanation for how the Geonosians came back. Or where they went. Or where the PCs went in order that they might run into the Geonosians.

Sticking closely to Canon doesn’t mean you have to throw out all of the EU and Legends, it just means you have to pick and choose, and you have a lot of options as to what, where, why, when, how, etc… that you make those choices.

Yes, that's what I meant by using Legends stuff as long as it does not contradict Canon.

As canon is going to keep coming out, trying to keep up with it can be a real pain. What wasn't contradicted last month might be next month. Draw the line at what sources you're using and then stop worrying about anything released after that.

"δὶς ἐς τὸν αὐτὸν ποταμὸν οὐκ ἂν ἐμβαίης."

- Heraclitus

Which translates, for those of you who dont speak ancient greek, into "You could not step twice into the same river."

The simple act of playing in the universe changes the cannonity of the universe. And of course with new information coming out all the time, things are changing all around you. I really wouldnt worry too much about getting your game to sync up closely with the Disneyverse.

I actually DO read (not speak) Koine Greek. :-) Anyhow, as my players are all drawing inspiration from the "new canon" I want to tie it in to it as much as possible. I respect that you do not "worry too much about getting your game to sync up closely with the Disneyverse."

I, on the other hand, DO want it to take place in that rendition of the Star Wars universe. :)

Blackbird said it best, change the race and you're good to go. It's most likely that most of FFG's RPG stuff will be considered "Legends" material, so changing any of that to better suit the Canon universe would be easy. And Desslok is correct about your presence changing the canonicity. You're going to have to keep up on any Canon changes as they are made and change pre-written FFG adventures to suit that Canon. It could prove to be challenging but if you're determined to play that universe, the challenge will be worth it.

Good luck!

Wookieepedia is a good place to check what's canon and what isn't.

As for the Geos, the canon short story "The End of History" established the existence of Geonosian colonies outside of the Geonosis system. Just substitute Geonosis for a new Geonosian colony and you're golden (Canon sources only say that Geonosis itself was sterilized).

A7T, I really like that... that's what I will do.
