RebelDaves NEW Vehicle (NPC) Cards!

By RebelDave, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Relax in this. We love the work you have done and I don' see how anyone can complain.

As to requests... it would be awesome to have the ad-1s modular fighter (though I can see why you wouldn't include it seeing as there is no other pic than in the spec mod book), the c-roc (not the image I was going for but I'm pretty sure there is one there that you would find acceptable) edit : fixed the pic

Yeah... the image is the deciding factor really. Without a suitable image, I wont make a card, simply becuase the image is kind of what 'makes' the card. And I am very selective on what images I use.

Plus, if it has a pile of customisation, the cards become almost redundant, if the ship if a PC ship, I would expect the group to have a Vehicle Sheet for the ship itself. So no card needed.

The cards are really more a GM tool, for a "Grab for stats" thing, like the NPC cards are. Equally, if you are going to make a Named Big Bad, you would probably create one specifically, not use a Pre Packaged one.

I think I had that one planned anyway, the image is familar.

Right.

Now that I have published everything I had created, I am at a cross roads.

It has been mentioned by a couple of people, that they would like to use a Custome Playing card company to get my cards made properly (At their own expense, individually, not for resale, profit or money making ideas I will add... I will not be making ANY money from this. Individuals would be taking my work, and getting them made as proper cards, for their own use, and not sale)

However, this almost certainly means I need to redo all the cards into single files, rather than a sheet of multiple cards.

This will, as I have discovered, mean some alterations to keep them within the margins put forth by such companies.

What do the people want?

Do they want my existing cards, redone for this purpose.

Or do they want more cards in the way I have been making them already?

I know I will probably do both, but I kinda need an idea of where my efforts will be best suited, and if I need to adjust my working methods to make it easier to to both.

I am yours to inspire :)

This is indeed an option.

I just wish there was a "correct" way of doing it..... ARGH, i hate my brain..

The correct way is both. The Quasar Fire is a rebel vessel in legends and stay on target is as far as I know older than the rebels episode which features the re-introduced and re-imagined Quasar-Fire Carrier. They are in essence different ships actually, because the legends version is a real escort carrier, a transport retrofitted into carrier duty, while the imperial light-carrier is a ship build from stretch for carrier duty and thus not an escort carrier, at least if you are true to the meaning of retrofitted ships for the "escort carrier" designation.

Thus they have even different names on their wiki pages:
Quasar Fire -class cruiser-carrier
Quasar Fire -class bulk cruiser and Alliance escort carrier for the Legends version.

OK,

After so much worry and procrastinations, I have put up my Capitol Ship cards.

These may have errors, please point them out. I finished them after having a drink. My mental health issues have fought me every way on these, because I want them to be perfect, but without any quality control, I cannot be sure.

They are designed to 120x80mm, which you can get sleeves for from Mayday games. FFG do not do a sleeve this size, and tha tarot size was just too small for my brain to cope with.#

I hope you like them.

Links in first post.

DREAMS DO COME TRUE!
But seriously, thanks again a ton for all your hard work in this. Just seeing the images makes me want to come up with interesting ways to get the ships imvolved in the campaign somehow.

Also, side note - I've been compiling a folder of alpha-channeled images, inserting them into a text document, and referencing Wookiepedia to determine exactly how big these ships are compared to one another. Has anyone else noticed just have varied S5 is compared to the others? There's sizes ranging from 60m all the way to 255m in that class alone! I wonder how FFG even made that call! lol

The issue is Legends vs Canon here.

With the ship first appearing as a converted bulk carrier in Legends, it was co-opted by Canon as a designed from scratch carrier in Rebels.

I opted to make it an Imperial vessel, per Canon, which goes agaist the books, as I felt that people would be more familar with with that origin than the one put forth in Legends. Equally, the image is more recognisable from Rebels.

The stats remain the same, and there is nothing on the card that prevents people using the backstory as presented in the book, I just felt it was more readily recognisable as an Imperial vessel, since it appared as such in Rebels far more than a single paragraph in the Book.

Hey everyone.

Necroing this thread for a good reason.

Been abit nostalgic, so thought I would go back and read through some of the posts of my most successful project, to get warm and fuzzy feelings.

For those who wanted to get these cards done at makeplayingcards.com.... thats unlikely to happen. I asked them, and they said they would not print them without copyright permissions. If that means Disney or FFG, I am not sure, but either way I am confident that permissions will not be forthcoming. (Also, not looked into it, so... just guessing).

I have done all my cards thus far as single images, exportable into individual PNG formats using a PDF-PNG online converter, and they look good. So basically, I now create single cards, and then copy those into a multipage format (Its so much easier that way), however, there are differences in font sizes and margins.

On another note, I do have approx 40 more cards to release soon, if anyone is actually interested. Its a mix of types, sizes, etc, as Ive been making cards 'as i come across them', so there are no 'sets' as such (and a couple duplicates, because I had 2 images that I couldnt decide on, so did both).

So, assuming there is still some interest from people, I can get those out.

I also noticed, the image 'fade' i originally used has changed abit... so considering going back to my early cards and adjusting that... opinions welcome.

Let me know :)

well i am about to run Ghost of Dathomir soon so i would love these please, your other ship cards have been invaluable for making encounters "on the fly"

So glad you have found them useful, and really happy to hear someone has actually printed them out, and made use of them.

Wookiee hugs for you!

Ill get them out real soon... but these wont have been quality checks, so errors may be present. But its another 40 cards (and ive got more in the works too), so... if they help people, bravo.

There may be a small surprise in this next release too ;)

Awww. Thanks :)

The next batches include (If i remember rightly), 10 cards from Dawn of Rebellion, so you get your U-Wing, your Striker, your Zeta Shuttle,

Oh, and the Dawn of Rebellion stuff is not the surprise... but it is related...

I for one am looking forward to it.

As mentioned before I love your cards and look forward to any more you add

OK.

As promised, you will find in the original post, 6 new links.

5 of those are sets of 8 cards, of various silhouettes and types.

Thats ALMOST 40 new cards. I say almost, becuase within those are two copies of the U-Wing (Different images, because I loved both), and individual cards for the two Y-Wing varients (Whereas in the original Iconic Starfighters, both varients were on the same card), and a second LAAT/i, which is also in the Airspeeders set, but I didnt realise that until id made the second, and its also got a cool image.

So I think that basically gives...36 new unique cards.

If you find any errors, let me know.
If you find any discrepancies (Ive used numbers, where ive used words, etc), let me know.

As for the sixth link... well... I know its 6 to a page, becuase those cards have a larger bleed margin (Becuase I did them in my template for makeplayingcards, before i found out they wont do them), as such, I cannot fit those as 8 to a page. The text size and margins within the cards are slightly different.

If I ever release all the vehicle cards i have done, as single card images, there will be differences (Font size on the front, some margins), but I might go over and redo ALL the 8 to page cards as 6 to page cards as well. Dont know if that is worth it though.

Either way... the sixth link gives me alittle more stuff to play with (art allowing), in case i run out of vehicles.

Let me know what you all think!

Glad you liked the surprise cards too, they open up a whole new avenue of ideas!

**** it rebeldave, i was literally getting coffee after being at the printers for all your other cards when you posted this update

Oh well, I do apologise... :P

Not that it matters, more are coming. Ive got 4 more lined up (Need to throw images at Photoshop and see if I can make them usable), and then its on the hunt for more...

But, I can now supplement NPC cards, if people are interested... I need to compile ALL Adversaries from all books, cross reference with NPC cards already, and then hunt images for what might be useful.

So... if anyone wants to help... find me pictures! (Of a style similar to what ive used... so... arty/colour/decent size/not comic images/not digital screen grabs from games unless they are passable as 'drawn' etc.

By my reckoning, ive not created more than double the number of cards FFG have released :)

So long as people are getting use out of them, I am a happy wookiee.

No worries mate,

Turns out the printers messed up on 6 of my sheets (flip long edge vs short edge) so back I go, armed with your new ones!

Thread Necro Alert!!

Its been WAAAAY too long since I last updated with anything new…

That’s not on.

So here we go.

See First post for NEW CARDS.

And I don’t mean a few.

I mean THIRTY TWO cards.

Details in First Post.

With Cyphers about to land (for me), and Rise of the Seps on the horizon, art permitting, there will be more to come!

This brings me to 152 cards I think. (counting duplicates, not counting capital ships)

This exceeds FFGS NPC card count.

How they have not done their own versions at this point I don’t know… but hey ho. I am here to serve.

If you want a card making, and can provide suitable art work (I am final arbitrator on the art), let me know and I will make said card!

As always, Dave, you rock. Just need to remember to take some card stock to work for printing.

I can hazard a guess as to why they may not have made official ship cards, though: attachments.

That is actually a very good point.

But as far as a 'stock ship for GM use' I wonder why they didnt...

Simply put, the entire idea behind these cards was basically:

"I have a card for a TIE pilot... thats awesome, I dont need to look it up, or copy it out..... but whats the point in having the stats for a TIE pilot to hand, if I dont have the stats for a TIE Fighter? I STILL need to look in a book and copy out stats!... I need card for a TIE Fighter"

That is the exact thought I had when I decided to make vehicle cards.

(And If anyone is interested, I will find and post the very first ship card design.. if you want to vomit that is).

But thank you for the compliment.

Cyphers doesnt seem to have many ships, but I believe I have 8 more cards (or thereabouts) ready to cook for Rise of the Seperatists ;) (as and when it lands)

Dave,

you're the man!!! Those cards are so handy, the perfect addition to FFG's NPC cards! I use them in nearly all our games! You are awesome! :)

Thanks,

Ron.
