RebelDaves NEW Vehicle (NPC) Cards!

By RebelDave, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Ah, sorry then. The Wayfarer is apparently alternately referred to as both a Transport (under "Selecting a Starting Ship" and the ship's actual text description) and a Freighter (under the title and statblock in the starship profile) in the EOTE rulebook, and I was going off the former. The ship is basically straddling the difference between the two classes, anyway.

No biggie! The two terms are reasonably interchangable, but I took the decision to present the same information in the Ship Entry for each ship, on each card.

Basically, each card (Like the NPC Cards), is a Quick Reference for whats in the book, so you dont need to go flipping, or copy down the details (Just like the NPC cards).

Amazing to think, that this entire thing started with the idea: "I've got a card with TIE Pilot stats.. but nothing with the actual TIE Fighters stats... thats silly.. a card with the TIE Stats would be useful..... oooooh.... I wonder...."

AND BAM!

Here we are, right in the middle of an OCD nightmare.

On the plus size, I've made a fantastic new friend and collaborator, who has pushed me to be better, learn more, and strive for higher standards of myself, not to mention a few fantastic projects that have resulted from them. He knows who he is!

I'm just glad I can give something useful back to the community.... I'm no OggDude, but... im happy people like my cards.

Don't sell yourself short, Dave. These cards are a FANTASTIC resource, done to professional standards and provided free of charge to the community. As far as I'm concerned, you're a saint.

Yes, don't worry too much! These are very useful, and really I have zero complaints.

Thank you for the work you've put into these! And thank you to Brad too, as I know that he was involved.

nawwwwww! Aint you nice! wookiee hugs for you :P

But its all true, I've had at least one person say my cards are nice, but zero use to them as they do everything via OggDudes generator... personally, ive never used it, never got my head round it, and prefer to the pen and paper aspect of things.

The really sad thing is I will probably never get to use my cards, or have them used against me, as my group is not that conducive to Star Wars, and my mental health is causing me issues running anything thats not pregen... which is not compatible with some of my group.

But I'll keep going... ive got another set of 8 ready for quality control, and something abit different too.... and more planned.. and thats before i circle back round to the REST of the Sil 3 cards ;)

Yeah Brads been invaluable, and quiet honestly, these would not be where they are without him. They would not be a refined as they are without him, and they would be full of issues and errors without him.

I cant thank him enough :)

(And its becuase of him, 'Phase 2' will probably become a reality, as I never considered it before... so keep watching... there is more to come.. and more after that ;) )

THANKS BRAD!!

Aww, shucks. I’m just OCD that way, I guess.

Could you please make a U-wing NPC card. On 33hrs and am giving my players a ship...would love for it to be a U-wing. If not, thanks anyways and your work is amazing! Thanks for helping all the GM'S out! :)

As soon as there are Stats and a suitable image for a U-Wing, it will go into the list of cards to do.

At the moment, theres a work stoppage, as a few things have gotten in the way, and Brad is off the grid, so there are a few files waiting for Quality Control Checks.

But I need stats and images for a ship to make a card :)

Yeah, I need to work on that. :o

RebelDave! Your cards are a wonder - I will be using them in my game tomorrow! For my group, cards like these are fantastic as it will keep stat checking through the books to an absolute minimum. My players aren't hugely experienced in RPGs (just finished up a Call of Cthulhu adventure though, which was their first) but they have a background in CCGs so I think these cards will help maintain focus, combined with Talent and Weapon cards courtesy of The Darth's templates.

You have saved me a ton of work and I love the artwork you've sourced too.

Thank you to both you and brad these are really freakin useful and I have big feels for you both right now

To the Printer!

Thanks for the kind words :) I am very glad you like them!

I need to poke Brad, as there are a few more still waiting for quality control....

I can confirm they went down a storm. One player flipped a Destiny Point to find a Speeder as he rushed to escape a Cantina Firefight and it was a delight to just whip out the card and away they went!

Thats pretty much the idea!

Need a ship? Grab a card, keep the story going!

I still need to see about tinkering with the files so I can have them printed as actual cards.

Sure, I've got cardstock and a paper cutter, but the perfectionist in me isn't happy with my results. (Of my own print/cut job, that is...the cards themselves are awesome!!)

Brad did suggest that I do them as individual cards, so you can get them done as custom cards via a website like makeplayingcards.

This is on the board, and is something I plan on doing at some point (its quite laborious, but is essentially a copy and paste job).

If you are having trouble getting them lined up (theoretically, they should line up perfectly, (digitally, they are perfectly aligned) but the variations and limitations on the machine doing the printing cannot be countered for home users... even if you go to a local Print Shop like Staples), then my best suggestions is print the fronts and back on separate sheets, cut each front and back precisely to two adjoining edges (say top and left), use a corner guide to glue them together accurately, then cut the other two sides... it might not look great, but pop them in a sleeve and you probably wont notice. Especially if you use a corner cutter to round the corners off.

Even doing the cards on separate sheets will not guarantee a local print shop can get them 100% perfectly lined up, as ANY tiny movement as the machine pulls the paper through, can throw edges off, and with the margins being so tight, you can see any irregularities clearly.

Oh, and thanks for the compliment too :) I am glad you like them

If you're interested, I've been using Indesign to create templates for my Weapon and Talent cards, then simply Data Merging with spreadsheed of the data. Setting up is a bit of work but once done, importing is a cinch.

I also use it to import the correct card image, using a path to the file.

Thanks, but I've done all the work in MS Publisher.

Partly because I didnt have InDesign at the time, but mostly because I have absolutely no clue how to use InDesign anywhere near as well I know Publisher.

No doubt, InDesign is the more powerful tool for this kind of thing, but I would need to redo everything in the new software, and it wouldn't actually solve the issue that most people have (being the accurate printing so front and backs line up correctly), as that is down to the machines used to do the actual printing.

As it is, when I do a new batch of cards, I simply open up a previous set, and type in the relevant stats, and swap a picture over... so i've got a pretty smooth workflow process, even if I am using the King Of Amateurs software (Personally, I think its a highly underrated piece of software.... ive used it for everything int he past 15 years)

The alignment on printing seems fine.

The alignment of the "cut here" wire on my paper cutter and where the blade actually travels, however, seems to be a different story....

Well you have won half the fight then!

My biggest issue was getting the printer (a print shop Xerox colour copier) to print the fronts and backs so they lined up correctly.

Cutting... well I can tweak the cutter, or use a sharp scapel and a straight edge. But if the cards dont line up... doesnt matter how accurate you cut, one margin or another is always alittle.. off.

I've worked out a decent template for cards for some of my custom adversaries, just haven't tried printing them out yet. (Working on them as single cards.)

As I was working on the template, I kept wishing I knew how to create templates for Magic Set Editor.

No idea what a Magic Set Editor is... but I have created a template to replicate FFGs NPC Cards (Not sure on the legality of that one)... I simply lack (havnt really looked) suitable artwork to create more cards.

That and since I dont have a group who plays SW currently, I am not all that motivated to work on something I wont get to use... plus, FFG have probably covered all the most common ones.

Magic Set Editor allows for easy creation of (primarily) Magic the Gathering cards, although there are templates for a small handful of other CCGs available, too. I've found a couple of template builder programs for it, but just can't figure it out.

It would be super convenient for projects like yours and mine, as it could allow for cards to be created and saved together as sets (like, say, FFG's "Citizens of the Galaxy" set), and printed or exported as single cards or the entire set at once. But, trying to figure out the templating for it kicked my butt, so it was back to Photoshop for me. :P

Yeah, i would love to have more skills in better tools, but alas, mental health issues make it very hard for me to learn new skills.

Id LOVE to know photoshop far better, but i use it so infrequently, anything i do learn I end up forgetting.

I'm very much "crash and bash" in my learning Photoshop skills. And I cannibalize elements from projects made by those far more skilled than I am rather than reinvent the wheel too often. If I were using it in a professional capacity, I'd actually sit down and learn it. Since everything I do is for fun (and probably doesn't scratch the surface of its power), I'm fine with fumbling through it.

Here is, for example, a custom MTG card from Magic Set Editor, a recreation/update of the first custom card I ever saw back when the game was still new.
