World Cup Qualifier - Rule and Signup Thread

GK vs LTD paused mid round 2. We hope to continue tomorrow.

His 2TRC90, 2H930, 2GR, Jan-ball vs. my Ackbar Definace and friends.

His non-Admo did a good run to take down my BH Slicer, but those fickle black dice...even with OE...left BH alive and well. Ok, maybe not well, but not dead.

It got out of Definace side arc, but landed on some debris and in black range of my MC30. Also, Defiance means that MC80 can punch to the front if need be. We'll see how it turns out.

I am available tonight after 7pm Central Time. I have no chance at qualification, but would enjoy a game. Plus - I am easy points. (Note I said easy points, not "easy".)

I'm still looking for a game for this week, so I'll take you on this offer if you don't mind.

Sure. It may be 7:30 depending on when I get finished with my errand.

I'll play you next week one evening?

Also

I DEMAND MY BONUS POINT!

If giving bonus points mattered to people who already qualified, you would definitely have one.

I ended up running squadronless double ISD fleet vs Interdictor and 2 VSDs with some squadrons. So the matchup was heavily tilted in my favor. Still it was a good and a very courteous opponent and a good discussion in general.

Hey guys, look what came in the mail today! Thanks Biggs!

SkyCake vs BrobaFett = 6-5 win for cake... mov of 8! 76-68

i won the bid and took first but vs 6 activations to my 4 made it hard to get in safely...i set up all on one side in a ball to try and prevent slashes, and it worked, but i was unable to get in safely as he could activate in the background and let my ships fly into his arcs then blast away.... in the end, the game was determined by DT tokens (even) and us blowing up a flotilla a piece, and me, the extra lone awing FTW... all out of the side arc of a GT VSD mind you! ;)

GG Broba, hope to play again!

Dice deserted me, but if you are relying on luck you've already lost...

Finessed this game: GK vs. LTD

LTD was first player, picked my Intel Sweep

9-2 to me (312-33=279)

It looks like huge win, but there was some luck involved as well. LTD failed to kill BH with his double-arcing MC30 with OE and H9 for one...and my MC30 return shot did a nice 10 damage, blowing his MC30 away. That really shifted the balance in my favor, as he failed to block my forward movement and ended up gliding into my Ackbar side arcs. His Admonition tried to hang in there, but Defiance fished up a CF with it's SFO and that was it.

We stopped playing at the end of round 4 as it was obvious no more ships or squads would get destroyed.

True, but NOT killing BH with a double arc from a H9/OE/APT Mc30...and then taking 10 dmg in the face right after...that did shift the balance. Plus that CR90 was 1 dmg from grabbing that token in front of my nose and fleeing to safety. Armada...the game of narrow margins...

That's right, now that (at least one) has been delivered, we can discuss the secret prizes!

That's right, secret prizes! A total of 3 secret prizes have been hidden for major accomplishments during the qualification process. Two have been found:

Maturin won the first for winning the first Matchup-of-the-Week.

Comatose won the second for writing the first +1 Article.

One remains a mystery....

It's me, it's me!

Most devilishly handsome and rapier wit player.

Right? RIGHT!?

emfrank72 defeats BrobaFett 383-117 with a MOV of 2 for a 9-2 win. The objective was Contested Outpost.

My fleet consisted of a Motti ISD with Flight Controllers (other stuff as well but that made the most difference), Demolisher, and a Gozanti with Mauler, Howl, Dengar, TIE Advanced and 2 Interceptors. Broba brought a Lando Admonition, CR90A with Mon Mothma, Bright Hope with Toryn, and 2 Bomber Command GR-75s. His squadrons consisted of 5 x-wings, 5 Y-wings, and Jan Ors. I was first player.

On the first turn we maneuvered for position and I don't think much else happened. On turn 2 I started with a squadron command from my ISD and Mauler was able to land in the middle of his squadron of Ys and Xs and I think damaged 5 or 6 ships, maybe more. With the added dice from Flight Controllers and Howlrunner, I took out 3 of the X-wings in the first attack. In subsequent rounds, Dengar allowed Mauler to hop around a bit to do a fair amount of damage to a lot of squads. That being said my squads did their job in keeping most of his squads occupied. I think he only fired at my ships maybe 3 or 4 times between a Y and Jan Ors. When it was all said and done only 1 Y-wing and Dengar survived so the squad battle may have been even.

On the third turn I had a double arc on Admonition from my ISD and had a pretty devastating roll (9 or 10 hits reduced to 5 thanks to Lando) but between the two shots had reduced Admonition to 1 hull point with its shields much reduced. Demolisher was able to get into position to finish it off on the 5th turn. Admonition with a Y did a bit of damage to the ISD but it was never really in much danger of being destroyed thanks to most of his squads being engaged with mine. Twice I one shotted his GR-75s from the front arc my ISD and the other GR-75 collided with my Gozanti for it's final end.

BrobaFett had a good plan but wasn't expecting the firepower from my fighter screen. He never had a chance to use his Bomber Command Center with his Y-wings to any real effect. If he could have gotten his Ys to my ISD around the same time as Admonition, it could have gone a lot differently. BrobaFett was a great opponent and I look forward to future opportunities to play against him. Thanks again for the good game.

WHY AM I NOT LISTED AS QUALIFIED!? I DEMAND YOU LIST ME AS QUALIFIED! IN CAPITAL LETTERS!

Captain ICT vs. GK is on NOW!!!

Most exiting game evah!

We couldn't quite finish our game, ICT had to run (and so did I for that matter), but the score will be 8-3 to me however things turn out (if I have done the maths right). We might finish it later - or not.

My new ISD/Demo/Goz/Imp Aces vs. his Dodonna's Cucumber/Yavaris/Angry Bees.

ICT was 1st player, picked my Contested Outpost. He sort of had to go first - couldn't let my Demo rampage freely!

Basically everything died! Except my Demolisher and some squads - and possibly his bright hope (if lucky).

Tagge was pretty useless, as was my Needa/TRC combo. Back to Motti or Ozzel and Xi7. Sigh.

Squads did their job though. IG-88 and Bossk quite useful. Every rebel squad died. Every last one. Dead.

I got 2 station tokens, ICT 1. I could have gotten 2 more, but Demo decided it was more fun to chase and try to kill Bright Hope, rather than camp the station!

DIE REBEL SCUM!!!!

ICT: it was a well played game. Those massive X-wing wiffs in the start hurt a lot down the line. I also think it was a mistake to place Yavaris in the center, facing Demo. If you had put it down where you had it first, you'd won. Demo would have needed go go THROUGH your MC80, and that would have given you enough time to kill my stuff.

Anyway. GG. Thanks for playing.

Did this thing go kind of quiet?

Ssshhh...

Biggs is sleeping right now.

We should let him.

Matt Antilles vs moodswing5537 ends 10-1 (400-64) to me, MOV 336. I was first player and chose his Intel Sweep.

This was Mothma swarm vs Mothma swarm where my last-first activation advantage made all the difference. My Mc30s were able to pick apart his fleet and give him no good options on many occasions. I'm not sure it would have gone so well otherwise, moodswing did a good job fighting back under the sub-optimal conditions. He managed to kill my Bright Hope objective ship, Quantum Storm slicers ship and Tycho. No one got the Intel points as both of our objective ships were destroyed. My Admo just barely finished off his Jaina's Light obj ship as it was about to pick up the last token. My GR-75s put out an incredible amount of flak fire onto his 7 A-wings, helping to down 2 and drop the others enough to where they started disengaging to jump onto the station. Overall a very challenging and interesting game.

Ard vs Matt Smith ends with a concession victory to Ard. Writeup to follow

The crazy thing about this game is that, even though the score says I got trounced, I think tactically there were very few occasions that bad decisions were made. It played fairly even through 5 rounds I think, then the double MC30's were just too much to deal with. Matt and I talked after the game about how to improve on my fleet to shear up some of the issues (dropping a couple of A wings for a 2nd GR75 for 6 activations is key I think) and going back and testing some more with rogue squads. Overall, I learned an amazing amount from Matt in this game and look forward to playing again.

I will update this later. Hold your Dewbacks.

Ard's streak of mediocrity comes to a definite middle with an 8-3 concession victory over Matt Smith-Antilles. The matchup was:

We played his Hyperspace Assault, which, unfortunately, I think he'd been planning to use with Mon Karren . It seems like this threw a bit of a wrench into his plan, but he worked around it well, dropping Jaina's Light into my rear at the end of turn 1 and plugging away viciously at my flank with her every turn thereafter. Mon Karren jumped out just a bit too far at the end of round 1, though, and she went down hard under the guns of three shrimp. Matt conceded mid-turn 4 having tackled my H9 MC30 in exchange for Mon Karren and his TRC90, with Jaina's Light barrelling into a trap and his two flotillas all but doomed. Admonition survived after a round of mighty X-wing whiffs, which had in turn been pushed by the BCC flotilla that had lived thanks to a roll by my "guaranteed" flotilla-popper that resulted in one single damage .

Well-played game by Matt! Deployment and End-of-Round screenshots (I'll get the replay up soon).
