World Cup Qualifier - Rule and Signup Thread

By BiggsIRL, in Star Wars: Armada

Want to win a guaranteed spot in the prestigious 2nd Annual Armada Vassal World Cup?

"How do I do this?" you might ask. Easy! Play vassal games and win!

Players winning (or being named MVP) of the non-World Cup Vassal tournaments are secured a spot, but that is few and far between. We have 7 of the 32 spots secured right now by doing that, and will have another soon enough when Deal or No Deal concludes. But that leaves 24 spots still in the air.

So secure yours. Sign up in this thread. Play games against other aspirants. Win those games. Participate on the forums.

How do I sign up?

Just post below, saying you are signing up. I will add you to the list on the post just below this one. This means you are able to schedule qualifier games against other players.

Qualifier Games?

That's right. Games that are played against other players that are hoping to qualify for the World Cup. You can play whoever you want but to count the game has to be agreed upon as a qualifier game by both parties prior to starting . If you pre-schedule a match, make sure you show up for your game (or post in a reasonable time that you can't make it) - no-call / no-shows are bad and can hurt your chances of qualifying.

To schedule a game, make sure you and your opponent can agree to a time. Then post that time / date and your lists in the thread. Simple! If you schedule your games in advance, they could be eligible to be picked as a Matchup-of-the-Week.

How do I Qualify then?

You will need to play at least 3 games against other players, and score an average of 7 points (21 over 3 games) in those games. You can play more than 3 and still get to that average, but it gets harder to raise your score the more games you have to play.

You can get 1 bonus point added to your score in that game by having your game selected as the "Match-up of the Week." Any pre-scheduled games posted by Sunday Morning of any week are eligible for "Match-up of the Week" status . They get an article analyzing the players and their list composition. They may even be streamed live once I get Vassal and my streaming service up and running on my new actually functional laptop!

I am actually pretty bad, are there any other way to get points?

Actually, there are! You can raise your AVERAGE SCORE by a whole point by posting an article on the forums on an Armada topic of your choice. Think Clontroper5's article on threat ranges for what we are looking for - though you don't necessarily need to go quite so indepth. Something you researched, put some time into, and that will be helpful for new players or veterans expand their knowledge of the game.

So in other words, not like any of the drivel I write.

I played an awful game, and my average score will never recover!

Not to worry, friend. You can get a mulligan on a single bad score (4 or lower) once for free. Play 7 total games, and you get another mulligan. So that's top 5 of 7 games factored to get your average. Not the end of the world, right?

How long does this run?

Signups start now.

Qualifier games will start this Sunday (Sept 18) (though signups will continue until the following Sunday Sept 26). Games can be scheduled immediately, but the game itself cannot start until 9/18 at 00:01 GMT.

It will run until Nov 13th or the Sunday after 12 players qualify, whichever comes first.

What should my scheduling post look like?

I need 2 posts. One from you, one from your opponent (confirming the time and date).

It should include the time and date of the match, and what list you are running (your opponent can add their own list on the confirmation).

Signing on the dotted line!

Me too!

Doobleg, that was in 2015.

Should have won one this year. =P

My apologies, I won't be able to participate. Work has got me way out in Asia and I'll be here until 1 October. Y'all have fun!

That's cold, babeh. :P

In like FN2187.

signing up.

Why the need to schedule 3 days in advance?

And this is about 12 of 24 remaining slots?

Maybe I'll start my own World Cup - with blackjack and...

Probably easier not to. Signing up!

Why the need to schedule 3 days in advance?

I'm more confused why you can't play on Sunday.

Another question:

Legal components - wave 4 inclusive, or with spoiled cards from CC and wave 5 too?

Why the need to schedule 3 days in advance?

And this is about 12 of 24 remaining slots?

confused about that as well, there are 24 remaining you say, yet qualy is for 12?

In general, any reason for this complicated looking system? Open for all and just adjust the draw (32, 64), or do you plan pods? Dont get my asking wrong, just seems so diffeent from previous tourneys and curious why.

Yes please!

I got this.

After all, I am the winner of the NEXT armada event tournament. And probably the one after that too.

This will never get old.

Another question (more of a request really):

A FAQ-type statement from the organizer (like doobleg did) taking care of stuff like stacking BCCs, Jamming Field, etc.

Yay I has spot already! Also, Clon will in all likelihood not be back to defend his crown. He's off bringing religiosity to the fuzzy wuzzies or what not (can we give a bonus point for whoever gets that quote first?).

I'm in.

Who wants to play? And when?

32 players with pod play.

The idea behind "schedule in advance" is so we can get people watching the games if they know when the games will happen.

As for 12 of 24, I thought this will be fun, and give us people more likely to play all their games into the POD play.

I will have a FAQ up later, but if FFG puts out one it will immediately supersede mine.

You heard that? POD play!
