No Distintegrations

By Kyla, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I do like that they specifically called out three ships that are availiable in the x-wing miniatures. Perhaps there will be an official rpg rules expansion that uses the miniatures for the ship combat - specifically how to interpret a players talents to x-wing mechanics, or vice versa. There have been a number of people attempting to combine the two, and several x-wing articles that talk about the very thing.

And every single one of those articles has been poorly received by the RPG player base at large.

I understand FFG wanting to cross-sell their various Star Wars lines, but, to be blunt, if I wanted to play X-Wing, I'd play X-Wing.

Two of the new species in the book based on the new artwork would be Ubese and Zabrak.

I personally hope that the third species is Zeltron because both Luke Skywalker and his great-great-grandson Cade Skywalker had Zeltron bounty hunter girlfriends.

I also hope there is a Helot-class freighter.

Okay, I think the most important question is this:

What the heck are we going to complain about now that this is announced?

I mean, sure, I'm always going to complain about needing the Mystic book, but what are you poor saps gonna do?

I will keep complaining about autofire and soak

Sentinel and Bounty Hunter, the two sourcebooks I've been anticipating the most, are now in the pipeline. Sweet!

I have been soooo waiting for this to be announced, I can't say any details but we had a lot of fun play testing this one :-)

"Ahhhhhhhhh but zhu villl talk......... Send in the Inquisitors and Interrogator Droids!"

:)

I know it's annoying not to get more details on PC's options, but hopefully this means more articles about ND before release, something FFG should have been doing all along.

As a whole, the community has salivated over Bounty Hunters more than any other career. It's iconic, and easy to fit generic RPG playtypes like fantasy fighters or rangers (read: it has broader buy-in from other games than, say, Engineer). We shouldn't expect developers and playtesters to sour on this specialization sourcebook. Considering the wait, we can also presume how FFG knew what they wanted in this book from Day 1, with details added based on our feedback as consumers. Overall, expectations should be high, realistically.

I do like how FFG released some books in a quick burst. Now, players who grab ND may want more from the specialization. "Hey, FLT has Mandalorians..." <<yoink>>

"Hey, can I play a Force-using city investigator bounty hunter type of character? What's this...EV?" <<yoink>>

I toss my hat into the No Mo' X-Wing Crossover articles. The depth just isn't there to entice me to try. Writing seems flat, like it was produced to fit some strange deadline. The price point to enter an X-Wing game, even with new ships referenced in the RPG, seems too prohibitive (even moreso, if we are expected to buy three new synergistic books, too, at ~$30USD x 3).

I think FFG may get more purchase of videos and articles about Adversary Decks or the Dice Ap, both of which are FAAAR easier to produce than plastic miniatures, and have immediate use with our existing SWRPGs. What's the buy-in for X-Wing...like $100 to field a decent squad? If it's more than the cost of a CRB, I will pass. I'd pay a larger price tag if FLT also came with Adversary Deck featuring no more than half of the NPCs featured in this supposedly NPC-heavy book, too.

...and/or an equipment deck(s). Or a ship deck.

I can drop ~$10USD for these resources without breaking the bank, and without shoehorning X-Wing minis into my game that may rarely use X-Wings, let alone ships during a 'deserted island' scenario beyond the crash onto Planet X.

Despite my active imagination, I cannot envision a time where my playgroup would invest $100 into a super-cool capital class ship miniature or small fleet over more pizza and soft drinks, or - crazy idea - more sourcebooks.

We'll sling criticism and hopes equally during the pre-release announcements and after we hold the book in our hands. Such is capitalism/commercialism.

I will acknowledge how FFG has produced more content for the SWRPG than we get from Dungeons and Dragons, Pathfinder, and World of Darkness rpgs in their prime.

For the EotE line alone, we'll have an introductory boxed set with dice, a large and beautiful CRB, 6 career books, two sector books, and adventure books.

...and the product line isn't yet finished!

I would like for more developers and FFG staff to say 'hi' on these boards, even if they don't agree with us or decline to comment on probing secret information.

I'd like to see more free content, too, as downloads. If they've released FOUR free downloads, why not peak our interest between book releases with a free species download. Want Jawa? Here you go...they won't imbalance the game with their inclusion, and their species won't be too hard to intuit in either product line (Jawa Jedi?!?). A one page planetary detail might be nice, too, following the same guideline. Are we really, really going to expect FFG to hit every.single.one of our beloved species or planets by the time Product Code 66 is released as the final, expected book? Throw us a bone, FFG, but not any more X-Wing Miniatures bones, m'kay?

Since the target audience for X-Wing is bigger than the RPG I have always seen the crossover articles and references as FFG trying to get more X-Wing players into the RPG;

"Hey guys, we have all these ships we play X-Wing with, why don't we get into that RPG thing FFG make to get even more use out of them"

Or

"I love this ship I just bought, I wish I could tell a story about the Bounty Hunter captain flying around the Galaxy... He look, this ship is on the RPG, why don't I check that out!"

I just don't buy FFG trying to sell X-Wing to the RPGers, we are the type of people who would already have everything from X-Wing if it interested us. We are the deepest down the rabbit hole of SW fandom (perhaps LARP's guys go a bit further, but not much), X-Wing on the other hand is Star Wars gaming for the (relative) masses.

They're busy as hell getting content out the door and I'm sure under pressure from above to gear up to support the new stuff coming down the pipe from the house of the Mouse. You're being unreasonable and impatient. I don't want them here spending time saying 'hi', I want them working and if they aren't doing that, spending time with their families.

What if the other two specs were the other two subject titles within the article? : Sharpshooter and Investigator?

Herm, given that assassin is already a specialisation I am less likely to think SharpShooter is a specialisation. The investigator would definitely fit the carear though.

Sharpshooter is a spec already.

I know, I was just daydreaming of stacking assassin and sharpshooter within the same career. 5 lethal blows, 2 deadly accuracy. ... be one badass sniper pretty quick.

They said in the write up there are 3 new specs.

"Three new specs," in that context, though, means three specs that haven't appeared in Edge of the Empire. Sharpshooter has only shown up in Age.

Remember, even though WE don't think of them as separate, and I'm sure the developers don't either, the official line is that all three lines are separate but compatible. Something is "new" even if we've already seen it in another line if this is the first time we've seen it in Edge.

However, that being said, I agree with your point: I very much doubt we'll see the Sharpshooter in this book. Although you'd know, wouldn't you ;) ?

I'm with you on this TBS. We're homebrewing stuff now, but it isn't playtested yet as the gaming group is taking a break from Star Wars to delve into Fantasy for a while. If FFG comes up with something in the mean time, I'd be all over it. Don't let the nay-sayers break your spirit, there is room for optional integration into X-Wing.

To reiterate that point that "New" means new to the line they refer to the talents Overwhelm Defences and Debilitating Shot as being new, but they are in the AoR core rule book that's been out for 2 years now.

This doesn't mean I support the idea of repeating the Sharpshooter, I'm against that wholeheartedly.

At least one of the other specs needs to be an Investigator type, if not by name then at least by nature, given the clear focus on that aspect in what will be chapter 3.

I HAVE WAITED 1244 DAYS, ALL THE LAMBS THAT I HAVE SACRIFIED HAVE BEEN WORTH IT, NO DISINTERGRATIONS?! LIKE MY HOPES AND DREAMS YOU BETTER NOT DISINTERGRATE, YOU 90 PAGE OR SO NOVEL OF AWESOMENESS.

Hmmm...the 'IGNORE' feature is a nice way to limit naysayers.

FFG announces the final EotE career sourcebook, and people start cutting each others' throats about content THEY think should or shouldn't be in it.

Edited by cimmerianthief

I don't think the throat-cutting is any more extreme than usual! Although this is a (currently) unique situation: once this book comes out, we no longer know if any new career material will come out, so this is sort of Edge's "last chance" for cool, new, career-related stuff.

We just want it to be good!

Um, what?

Species? Bith, Jawa, and Zabrak. I saw what looked to be a Zabrak in a picture, and since this seems to spark confirmation theories (MiraLucas, am lookin' at you), I stake my claim to Zabrak. Tell me people chomp at the bit to finally play an Elom Soldier, if you dislike my species choices.

Are there any species who just scream, "I AM A BOUNTY HUNTER" other than Mandalorians? I'd heavily wager how most fans already have their ideal Bounty Hunter species in mind and simply want the specialization crunch, regardless of any new species.

Golf Clap to FFG for aligning their three most recent books across three lines with heavy synergy.

Endless Vigil , from F+D, gives us some urban adventurers (Sentinels) with their own savvy Streetwise goals.

Friends Like These , from AoR, gives us Mandalorians *cough* and supposedly lots of acquisitions...err, NPCs.

No Disintergrations , from EotE, gives us investigating Bounty Hunters and their contracts (and weapons, ships (nod to Racer specialization from Endless Vigil, too?)).

Probably not Jawa. They dont tend to be known for bounty hunting. And likely will be in something like an arkanis sector book.

Well, Blizz is a counter-argument about the bounty hunter thing, but I agree.

Kubaz, Defel, Clawdite, Ubese; on the more obscure possibilities, Siniteen, Frenk, Theelin; that's being optimistic that there are no repeats from other lines. If we're being really optimistic, we'll get four species like Forged in Battle (they didn't give us a number).

If repeats: Zabrak or Kyuzo; maybe Devaronian.

If there is any forlorn hope that strictly EU species will appear again, there are dozens of other options, but Barabel, Houk and Rattataki are options.

I wouldn't mind seeing a species from TFA appear, either. Abednedo, Melitto, Dowutin, or Delphidian.

Zabrak is in art so i think them and 4 others. Defel and clawdite would be awesome.

I kind of hope they'll do some more universal specializations. Maybe some non-lightsaber martial arts/combat forms & the like.

The mysterious SWE15, maybe.

I vote pdf's!!! That dead horse is always ready for more beatings.
