No Distintegrations

By Kyla, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Harlock I must say the 3 Specialisations in Stay on Target are wonderful Edge Specs; Hotshot is an amazing Corellian, Rigger is fantastic for Bounty Hunters who love their ship, and Beast Rider fits everywhere. The ships are great, the gear is great, the Beast Riding is great. The only thing you miss out on is themed text filled with fluff about living on the edge of society and more Obligation options.

Just because it's in an AoR book doesn't mean you can't use a huge amount of the material, of all the AoR books I would absolutely recommend your group add it to the library, especially if being a beast rider is important to someone. Just build the character using EotE creation rules, but stick to the skill limits of the career, or pick the Spec up as a second spec to add to an existing character.

For a simple run down on riding it's basically Piloting using the Survival skill. Beasts get a speed and handling based on their characteristics, and must be Silhouette 2 or more. There is training rules too to tame a mount to be easier to handle. There are a ton of the classic Star Wars riding beasts in there too.

In my experience almost all books in any line are usable in any other line. My personal favorites are setting books (e.g. Strongholds of resistance was first non EotE book I bought, and I loved it. IMO Nexus of power was even more usable in EotE. Both has some line specific rules in them, but those don't bother me. We play mainly EotE game, but I have most books in all lines, because I find them useful.

My only point is that if a book in other line has some content you want, there is no reason to not buy it just because it's on wrong line. If you buy it, you may not get maximum absolute value out of it, but you get some value, and you are only one who can make the decision is it worth it.

While I agree 100% with both Rich and Kkuja, I would like to reiterate that Harlock's choice is to only get EotE books. I may not agree with (or understand) it, but I'm sure he's aware of what he's missing out on from the other lines, and he's decided getting those books is not worth it for him. Constantly bringing it up becomes rude after a while (in my opinion, which I'm basing on his previous posts; my apologies, Harlock, if that's not the case). Shall we go back to discussing how Clawdites are awesome and their species ability is a mastercraft piece of RPG mechanics?

I'd like to talk about that :) . It's a mastercraft piece of RPG mechanics!

Let the chamelons Clawdites loose... :D

Oh it will be fun to trick my players by meeting a lot of different persons once the original and once the clawdite imposter... they'll think i've gone crazy with how the NPC acts ^_^

Trying to play the same personality ticks with a variety of wildly different characters is definitely on my to do list, although I doubt it will be anywhere near as cool as it sounds... I'm a terrible actor!

What PC ideas have people had with this new book?

Im loving that Improved Saber Throw action from Endless Vigal, a Clawdite Advisor Sentry seems like a wonderful character, spending its days in high places then it's nights chasing criminals.

I fully understand his decision and honor it, even though I don't necessarily agree with him. When I bought EotE core book, I decided that's the only line I get, but that decision didn't last very long as I noticed how much valuable content other books contained for EotE game. But I'm a very flexible GM and use quite a much borrowed content from even non canonical sources. So this is YMMV situation. And ****, I forgot to write what was one of the most important points I was going to write. I.e. Only he can make the decision if those books on other lines are worth his money. And what ever it is (currently no) I won't criticize it.

Personally I don't like when content is recycled, because I'll buy most books anyway. But I understand those who prefer it between lines.

But to more important matters. I don't have solid opinion about Clawdites. In the PT they were a bit meh to me. I have never had huge love (or hate) for shapeshifters, in any franchise (Somehow I just always think about this: http://oglaf.com/kingshaped/ (SFW)). The rules part seems solid. As being mastercraft? Maybe no, solid good FFG quality definitely (I always try to avoid NPCs making rolls and allow PCs to make those rolls instead, so using clawdite as NPC introduces small complications to me). Yeah, well, but that's just like, my opinion.

You should all buy all the books. Otherwise you're not true fans, but you are in fact communist fanatics working against the hegemony of capitalism and the superiority of Western civilisation, and Christianity. Fo reeelz like.

I'm excited about the Kallerans, really liked those guys in the Kanan comics.

Also: What's next after this? Just more adventures and sector/area books? Or will they introduce a new line of sourcebooks? Or will they do joint career-books with new specs (universal and career specific), new species and fluff on how to mix and play mixed career/spec'ed characters? Meh... I dunno. I was right about the career and sector books stuff, but I'm too old now, my clairvoyance has been ruined by preconceptions, a steady job and routine.

Kyuzo sre in the soldier splatbook, and Devaronian were on the nexus of power book.

See, now this is what really bothers me...

The only Kyuzo we see (in TCW) is a BOUNTY HUNTER. So clearly that species should show up in a soldier book. Sigh.

And while a female Devaronian was somewhat prominent in Ostrander's Clone Wars comics? The vast majority of material featuring that species - both in canon and EU - shows them as smugglers. So, of course, they first end up in a F&D book. Again, sigh.

And what was the rationale for a beast riding spec appearing in the Ace book over that of the Explorer or Bounty Hunter?

Sometimes I just don't understand FFG.

There was a Kyuzo in the TFA albeit mostly in delete scenes

I'm excited about Clawdite! I've been wanting to see stats for them for a while, as they were on my bucket list of species that FFG should do.

Plus, if I ever get the chance to play instead of GM I want to play a Clawdite.

Nice to finally have Clawdites, but I'm still waiting for Skakoans, Theelin, and Talz.

I was hoping for Barabel and Defels. The latter are hopefully going to be in the AoR Spy book. The former...maybe the FaD Warrior book?

Well, if Maelora's theory about FFG only sticking with canon species and not using EU-only species is on the mark, then we probably won't be seeing Barabels any time soon.

Defel sounds like it'd be a good fit for the Spy career book, but with some of the choices that the designers have made in past books as for what species to include where, no telling if they'll show up there. Heck, maybe they'll show up in the Warrior sourcebook to match up with some kind of Force-wielding assassin spec.

I mean it sounds a bit unorthodox but can´t you just use the trandoshan or Nikto sheet if you wanna play a Barabel?
I hope they include that Space Monkey thing from the upcoming Rogue One movie somewhere...
But that belongs more into the whats next thread :P

There is a Barabel Enforcer and a Defel Assassin in the Adversary section of the Edge Core book on page 392.

The just need to give us the base line stats for them.

Those were also written long before the canon reboot, back when the EU was still fair game in terms of what was and wasn't part of the overall canon.

Since then, FFG has generally been sticking to species that showed in 1) the movies, 2) the Clone Wars tv series, or 3) material that was released after the canon reset.

Will big-game hunter be in this one too?...

Will big-game hunter be in this one too?...

Hardly, as it is an explorer spec (Enter the Unknown), already.

I guess you are right. The other careers that share specs are from different core books I guess.

So far we know there's an "Operator" and a "Martial Artist" I believe, but can't recall the third one being mentioned, but I may have overlooked it.

Hopefully a "find your target" spec is the last one. Assassin, Gadgeteer, Marshal Artist, and Opperator all focus on the part where you actually catch up with the bounty. Scout is great at tracking in the wilderness. But where is the spec to hunt down the mark in cities?

In Endless Vigil...

But that would be a forcy... but to find it anywhere you'll still have the signature ability, and I think Operator will also have one side of the tree full with helpfull "find-it-abilities"

I'm guessing that the last spec will be some kind of investigator or tracker-type character. Maybe with a combination of talents from the Investigator in EV and some Expert Tracker and the like.

Are there Martial Artists in rebel era Star Wars? I mean, do they fit the frame and atmosphere of the fiction?

In the EU/Legends material, there is the Teras Kasi form. And then there’s the blind monk in “Rogue One”, but other than that, I don’t recall seeing anything.

Assasin relies on their guns, Gadgeteer relies on their tech, Opperator sounds like they will rely on thir ship, so martial artist is the bounty hunter who doesn't need anything.
