The SW version of WEG's Paranoia
So, umm...apparently I know the guy who wrote this article. He works at my FLGS. I went there last night and another regular was talking about how he'd mentioned it earlier that day after the article was posted.
That's pretty cool...
(Clarification: He's not a playtester or anything like that I know of, he just wrote the species article they we got yesterday. And he doesn't mention it until AFTER it posted. Don't want to go getting him in trouble because of a miscommunication ).
Edited by Absol197Heh, two 'pretty' species! (Well, Clawdites can be pretty, if they want )

You give GeneSys a higher mark than T3?

Yes, but only just. It's like asking "Would you rather have syphilis or herpes. One will be with you forever and the other will only make you go blind and go insane."

Edited by DesslokI thought that being being a kung fu/Teras Kasi/whatever-master seemed like a strange choice for a Bounty Hunter specialization. Then I remembered that Kung Fu was a martial arts Western and it made sense.
Good call, FFG. Good call.
As someone who's buying (and using) only the EotE books? And has no interest in the other two lines?
Thank you, FFG, for finally including the Devaronians. Thank you SO MUCH!
Seriously, I've been patiently waiting for years...
Now, I can populate my world with John Ostrander's brilliant imaginings of this rich (and often hilarious) culture.
Don't much care for having a species that originated in a Rebels spinoff comicbook miniseries... (Would have much preferred the Kyuzo...) But who cares? I have Devaronians!

I don't recall Caine being a bounty hunter. He was just some guy wandering the Old West looking for his brother.
But by your Western rationale? I DO sincerely hope we get a beast-rider specialization so the classic bounty killer "Man With No Name" character can be transplanted into Star Wars...
...only, in this universe, he's obviously Quarren.

There already is one in the Ace career.

Yes, but they refuse to use the other systems, they said.
Heck Doc's talent trees had the spec, it's not like they need to buy the book for just that. I hate spec repeats.
I agree, different species appearing in different books make sense, but if you want the spec, pony up the cash for that book because I also dislike repeats, it takes up a space where variety could have been.

I understand the logic of bringing signature species across the line between systems and I'm not a fan. I agree completely that I'd rather seen more selection than less.
Sheesh. Sorry to take a dump on everyone's dessert...
I don't have any AoR or F&D books, as I have zero interest in them. (The AoR theme has been covered to death in the WEG and WotC systems, which I have, and F&D just runs counter to everything I respect from the Original Trilogy.) So I was blissfully unaware that a "fighter pilot" book would feature a specialization more suited to an explorer or tracker.
But, again, it's all good. Because Devaronians!

No harm. No foul here Harlock. I get what you're saying and I agree that the AoR & F&D settings don't appeal to me in and of themselves. I use the careers and species available in the books to supplement my EotE campaigns and make it a more well rounded and better fleshed out universe. My annoyance of duplicates stems from the fact that there are so many different 'Canon' species in the universe that they haven't even touched and it's a wasted opportunity to duplicate something from the other lines, especially when the company itself heavily implies that the 3 settings are complementary and encourages cross pollination.

You can find the specialization in some of the talent sheets people have compiled. Such as https://www.dropbox.com/s/h78fpm3t6u3go4m/Ace%20Full%20Career.pdf for the Ace. (It escapes me who compiled this particular one, but I'm sure some folks around here can provide a proper source!)

Doc stopped updating, but there's still a lot on there.
Kyuzo sre in the soldier splatbook, and Devaronian were on the nexus of power book.
See, now this is what really bothers me...
The only Kyuzo we see (in TCW) is a BOUNTY HUNTER. So clearly that species should show up in a soldier book. Sigh.
And while a female Devaronian was somewhat prominent in Ostrander's Clone Wars comics? The vast majority of material featuring that species - both in canon and EU - shows them as smugglers. So, of course, they first end up in a F&D book. Again, sigh.
And what was the rationale for a beast riding spec appearing in the Ace book over that of the Explorer or Bounty Hunter?
Sometimes I just don't understand FFG.
If you look at it from the perspective of trying to sell books by putting something for everyone in each I think it all makes sense personally. They're not trying for the merit badge of organization skills, they wanna make money.

And why pigeonhole a species just because our first glimpse of them shows them to predominantly be X class or Y specialization? Yes some species lean heavily in this direction but it doesn't mean that the species doesn't produce members that go into other careers. I'm quite certain that every species has at least 1 doctor/healer/mechanic type.

Haha!
Syphilis is curable. I'd pick that.
To each their own on the Terminator movies.
New article up covering the three species: Devaronians, Clawdites, and Kallerans. With some juicy info on the Clawdites and Kallerans! More than usual.

Oh sure. I do agree with you. To a point.
But could you imagine, say, the Klingons first showing up in a Medical/Sciences book for a Star Trek game?
I get what some of you are saying. But unlike you, I would expect FFG to use a little logic as opposed to seemingly throwing darts to see where they land.
They are using logic. It's called the logic of spreading out desired content over multiple books to make more money. If they put every detail in precisely the proper book thematically it would likely limit the number of books people are buying. They're not trying to be cost effective, they want our money, so they're approach is logical.
