No Distintegrations

By Kyla, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I read that as a wanted poster where the wanted item was "No Disintigrations". Effectively an advertisement. I guess it can be read many ways.

My thought is that there are those who became the New Mandalorians (Satine's way), those who became Death Watch (super hardcore traditionalists and purists), and then other, dispersed groups that have been away from both that they've shaped their own ideas of what a "Mandalorian" is. Satine could say the old Mandalorians were extinct because those others that were still around weren't from Mandalore, while Death Watch didn't view them as true Mandalorians. Groups one and two could disparage the third group as as 'pretenders.'

I personally, like the idea of the Mandalorians as a culture having split into different factions, it is somewhat supported in what is canon at this point anyway.

I have three different campaigns running at the moment, and two of those are set in between the events in KOTOR II and OTOR. Those two campaigns are set in a small backwater sector of space mostly disconnected from the rest of the galaxy proper by being within a huge nebula. This sector is not part of the Republic and was untouched by the major galactic wars. In that sector, there is a faction of Mandalorians that, after their defeat at the hands of Revan, relocated there to try and reestablish themselves as a proud warrior people steeped in honor and tradition, instead of the conquerors the Madalorians had become when they were terrorizing the galaxy.

Based on this image from the Friends Like These article, it's probably safe to say they aren't taking the pacifistic approach to Mandalorians, in any case.

Is this picture the sole reason that we think that Mandalorians are going to be fleshed out in Friends Like These ? Or is there some other basis for that assumption that I am unaware of?

How many books have we now seen pictures of Zeb from Star Wars Rebels in and they still haven't covered the Lasat race in any book.

How about this solution:

A Mandalorian species option, human with special skill selection options.

A Deathwatch Universal Specialisation, probably with suggested narrative restrictions on how a PC becomes one. Recruit works for this purpose, but creating a new one could allow FFG to include very thematic talents and focus it more on that specific culture.

I liked the idea of Mandalorians adopting other races into their culture and raising them as Mandalorians.

For the game Humans or any other race would keep their Characteristic Profile from their base Race, but could then have a special skill selection reflecting being raise by culture of warriors.

I really liked the way the Mandalorian culture was represented in the Republic Commando series of books.

Those books made me want to play a Mandalorian character. I'd never really cared about them one way or the other before that.

I realize that it not necessarily a canon representation of them now, but it will remain that way in my game.

I've used that in my Old Republic Campaign, and the events depicted in the series are pert of the history for my third campaign, which is set in the months after the the first Death Star was destroyed.

More than anything, I am hoping for Mandalorian Steel to be covered, so there can be another substance besides cortosis that is capable of resisting a lightsaber.

It is probably not likely that they will be in Friends Like These . How many books have we now seen pictures of Zeb from Star Wars Rebels in and they still haven't covered the Lasat race in any book.

If you go to the product page for Friends Like These (not the announcement article), it revealed that it would include the rules. You can see for yourself here .

There's a big distinction between releasing a PDF of support materials - such as a character sheet - which are useless without the actual printed rule books and creating a PDF game product, which is what a poster would be as it can be used independently of the game. Disney's lawyers would be happy to explain it in court.

I want an FFG PDF poster of the Star Wars galaxy. I don't see it happening.

I don't know about a PDF, but they have a really nice 17 x 22 (?) poster Map of the Galaxy that comes if the Force Awakens Beginner Game. I plan to Laminate it.

Thank you very much!

I had not been to the product page yet.

Now I see where everyone is getting their information from.

Occasionally the product page offers a few more details of interest. No Disintegrations doesn't offer anything, other than showing the person who was in charge of putting it was asleep at the wheel, as it literally repeats both paragraphs. Either that or I slipped into a localized time loop. Hate it when that happens.

I want to like this multiple times ;)

I agree. Beskar would be great, as well as a universal tree spec that a character could take to become a Mandalorian.

Actually, that last is a good idea. That way you could represent a character who was adopted later in life (Bardan Jusik). I would still say that there should be a Mandalorian Human spec to represent the native peoples of Mandalore, but overall I think a specialization is probably the way to go.

And while you may not be unhappy with the direction Disney has taken things (and I honestly have no issue either) there are plenty who do have issues with the direction that Disney is moving Star Wars.

By speaking about "our wishes" and "our vision" you kinda gave the impression you did, that is why I addressed it.

Also, there might be plenty people taking issue with the current direction they are still a completely marginal group and there is no denying the largest majority is happy with the current wave Star Wars is riding.

I used our mostly as a way to separate customers from Disney. Also, I'm not sure if the people who take issue with Disney's direction is a marginal group. There honestly is no way to tell which group is larger since even the PT movies did well despite being soundly rejected by the fans. But while I can't comment on what the largest majority wants I can comment on what fans have expressed their wishes as.

That would be wonderful. All things considered, the map they use for this game has been my favorite of the maps I've seen.

"I've outrun Imperial starships. Not the local bulk cruisers, mind you. I'm talking about the big Corellian ships now."

What are the bulk cruisers? Does he mean star destroyers? Those are fairly easily out-maneuvered and outrun by something like the Falcon. And big Corellian ships? What are the Imperial ships of Corellian design/production?

...And Obiwan is rolling his eyes because he worked on Venators and Victorys.

(yes, officially the Arquitens is a Kuat design. But the engines and docking ports are totally stolen from the corellian "Counsular class" and corellian freighters.)

I love both the gozanti and the arrghkittens!

I'm really hoping that we'll get a martial artist spec (a bounty hunter who needs no weapons because he is one)

Teras Kasi artist, maybe?

Isit just me or is this not in the Upcoming Products list at all?

>_<

It's not my fault! I swear!

Dredging the discussion back up, it dawned on me that with the mentioning of investigations, there will probably be a specialization close to the desired private investigator. It may not be that exactly, but it will probably fill the need well enough.

I've been calling it the "Detective" myself. And I think it'll work well - might we see another instance of Unrelenting Skeptic?

Probably not, but a girl can hope :P !

I would like a trick or two to disable vehicles to get a fugitive and others to bring them in alive. Unrelentic Skeptic is nice but not so much the bounty hunter archetype.

I take a few days off and we're up to 13 pages! FFS, I am not trawling through all that

It's worth it!...?

Well, time to add a little fuel to the "they're sneaking it to us" fire. "No Disintegrations" is still not listed in the upcoming products page, but "Ghosts of Dathomir" is. Also, it Ghosts is listed as in development, so situation normal for that one.

That, or they really have caught on to Absol197.

Watch out, Absol197! In case you haven't noticed, they've assigned an ISB agent to monitor your computer.....

At least it's finally on the upcoming page.
