Here is what i have done so far. Sadly I have been limited to cheep paints.

I decided to try finishing a model without a guide or reference other than the movies overall I am not too disappointed with my snowtrooper... just dont look too close

They look very good. I would suggest that, if you can pick up a single wash like Citadel's Nuln Oil and apply that before a simple white drybrush to highlight the modes they will look even better for very little extra time or money

I don't have personal experience with Vallejo washes, but from what I've read, Citadel's are superior. I paint with Vallejo (love 'em) but wash with Citadel.

I'm afraid I've never used Vallejo so I can't help with that.

I have used Valejo, Citadell and Army painter. The differens is not that big. It's more a mater of witch bottles you like and the shades.

Like the Snowtroopers. Very much like mine. Light Delvin(sp?) Mud from Citadel on the cloth was perfect comparing to movie stills and wardrobe pics. The way I'd recommend people paint them.

The cheapest paint in the best paint. You can buy a million dollar car, it's going to get you to work exactly as fast as a Smart car will. I've wasted money on GW's, Ral Partha's, Privateer's, Tamiya and Vallejo paint and it's no better than the cheapest stuff like Craftsmart or Artist's Loft you can get at a real craft store, and it's worse than the better paints like Golden or Pebeo, which despite being professional paints, are still significantly cheaper than hobby prices. The hobby paint is pure ripoff. The only thing I've seen the hobby paint do as good as craft paint is Vallejo's interference dual color metalics. Everything else from neon and glow in the dark to washes and inks, to basic colors and base coats is all as good or better with craft paint for a fraction of the price.

I don't really agree with this. I have not tried golden or pebeo but the normal craft paint can be really bad. Often the paint is quite thick but lack pigment. So afther you thin it covers really bad. The paint I try also give you a glossy finish (valajo, game color have started to give the same result, at least last year)
