R5-K6 and C-3PO

By ZombieHedgehog, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I don't think this has been asked before but I'm looking for clarification on the possible interaction between R5-K6 and 3PO, would the added evade result in R5 triggering to guarantee keeping the target lock.

Not sure how good this is as if it does work it just looks like an expensive fire control system for the arcs, Norra in particular.

Thanks in advance!

Yes, the combination works, and has actually been discussed before. But as you said, it equates to a 5pt FCS, utilizing 2 slots, and requiring a TL to begin with. Personally, if I was to spend 5pts for a droid+crew combo to help Norra out, I would take Ezra + R3-A2, but that's just me.

Can you please reference the discussion or explain how it works?

As far as I can see you can trigger C-3po but asding an extra evade result will not change anything as R5-K6 only cares about the original dice result.

It's not like Threepio is adding an extra evade result. He's being used when R5-K6 is triggered in order to guarantee the evade result required to reacquire the target lock.

But that is exactly what C-3PO does. Add an extra evade result. He dies not modify the original die. And since both cards only care about the reults of the original die, adding an extra evade result doesn't change anything.

Good point. For some silly reason I was thinking he modified the result instead of adding a surplus result. Dunno where I got that idea from.

I need to unbury this topic.

C3P0 can add a dice at Lando-Crew.

This is FAQed.

C-3PO
A ship equipped with both C-3PO and Flight Instructor
may guess the number of evade results, add an evade result
if the guess was correct, then reroll the dice (if
applicable). C-3PO may be used in conjunction with the
Lando
Calrissian Upgrade card when performing Lando
Calrissian’s special action.
Juke can be used to modify the evade result added by C-3PO.

Lando:

Action: Roll 2 defense dice. For each focus-result, assign 1 focus token to your ship. For each evade-result, assign 1 evade token to your ship.

R5-K6:

After spending your target lock, roll 1 defense die.

On a evade result, immediately acquire a target lock on that same ship. You cannot spend this target lock during this attack.

So where ist the difference to R5-K6?

Because if you guessed correctly, you take another die and place it in the results area with Evade result. So, that is an additional/another result. According to StephenEsven that will not guarantee you the success of using R5-K6 because that is a different die...

Personally, I am not sure if that is how it works. In case of Lando or defense rolls we are talking about results that has a specific meaning (they guarantee tokens, or die result that is comparable in effect to a token). In case of R5-K6, the card does not specify where you need to get the result. The only condition is that you have an Evade as a result. Therefore, I think that this combination gives you an automated success for any attempt to re-acquire the TL.

C3PO:

Once per round, before you roll 1 or more defense dice , you may guess aloud a number of evaderesults. If you roll that many results (before modifying dice), add 1 result.

Well at least nothing prevents the use of C3-PO.

I cant find a written rule that does.

I guess 0.

I roll a focus

I add a Evade result.

In total i have 1 Focusresult and 1 Evaderesult.

I check if i have matched R5-K6:

R5-K6:

After spending your target lock, roll 1 defense die.

On a evade result, immediately acquire a target lock on that same ship. You cannot spend this target lock during this attack.

I have rolled one Die

I have an Evade result.

Check.

Can somebody find a written rule, that this is not allowed?

This does work in theory but it feels off somehow.

Not sure it's worth the points tbh
