Imperial Star Destroyer Upgrade kit

By Captain Gideon, in Star Wars: Armada

I need some help/advice on something regarding the Imperial Star Destroyer.

I recently got the Upgrade kit from Mel's Miniatures to turn an Imperial II SD into an Imperial I SD.

The main problem is this the bridge area on the Star Destroyer which you need to replace is difficult to remove can anyone help me out with some good advice?

Thanks

Michael

Typical advice is pop in freezer for an hour or so to make the glue brittle. But I have had mixed results with this. In the painting and mod there has been some discussion on taking apart an ISD, so you could peruse that.

Freezer is the best option. Hopefully you can make it cold enough to contract and pop the glue.

I still have a strong feeling that they are going to sell us an ISD 1 model soon with Rogue 1 coming out. ISD Prototype or whatever. Similar to how they did the Liberty.

I doubt it, by the fact that the Liberty and the Home One were always two different ships , not just retrofits. I was more surpirsed they just called them "MC80"...

My friend tried the freezer trick and it was a no go so I don't know what to do right now except break it off and I don't know if I really want to do that.

I've installed the same kit, I got my bridge tower off with a brand new (read ultra-sharp) hobby knife. I just teased it between the pieces, carefully. The worst joint to break is the one at the top of the tower, as there is a tab that sticks into the tower itself. Just take it slow and don't get impatient, you'll slice off details or more importantly a finger.

As an Ex-Roommate once said:

"I can get a Hospital to reattach my finger if I get it on ice... No-one I know will reattach any details I slice off, though..."

Glad he had his priorities straight!

Back on topic. Have you tried getting a small hobby drill with a tiny drill bit of 0.5mm and just drilling a series of holes along the seam you are trying to pop. Then join those holes together using a good deal of care and a sharp exacto knife.

It's not the Home One that can be made by removing relevant parts from the Liberty - it's the MC80a.

I didn't even know this could be an issue, mine just popped as I was checking the miniature out :D actually that's when I thought "hey! It will be easy to do the modification kit"

I've had some that are easy, and some that feel like they were glued to withstand the apocalypse. It is hit or miss, but there are definitely some where no amount of freezer, gentle pressure, etc etc will part the tabs from the slot. A saw with a razorblade fine blade was what it took me to get those parts off.

That would be a really cool model but how would that work with the current ISD 1 variant? Maybe it has the same ship stat cards for current ISD's but the model, upgrade, and officer cards are new/Rogue One themed. That way the balance isn't shifted that much but the Imperials get some visual variation and new cards that benefit star destroyers.

Imperials?

Visual Variation ?

Imperials?

Visual Variation ?

Haha totally. ISD I model would have a white paint as opposed to the dark grey of the rest of the Imperial Fleet.

HERESY

I'm Michael's(Capt. Gideon's) friend who until a few minutes ago, was having no luck removing the top of the ISD-II bridge tower. That is, until I accidently dropped the mini from about 2 foot high onto a wood floor. The piece obediently broke off with no damage to the rest of the ship or the bridge tower piece. Mounting peg? only broke.

Now I can start the conversion for Michael and add another"You have got to be kidding" moment to my memory bank. Once the job is done and the paint matched as close as possible, there will be pics.

I have been interested in obtaining this kit for a while now, super interested to see how it all turns out

Well the last few minutes were quite interesting I must say and the Bridge part came off the SD.

It was totally by accident my friend dropped the SD on the floor and the piece broke off with no damage to the SD.

So now the next step would be to match the color of the rest of the SD can anyone help with the right shade of Grey I'd be most grateful.

I just call the Liberty MC80 the Wing-80.

My friend Steve finished doing the SD Upgrade kit so now I have an Imperial I and Imperial II Star Destroyers.

I just took pictures of the Imperial I SD but I don't know how to post pictures here could someone please help me out so I can post the pictures and you can see what it looks like?

Thanks
