Overly expensive cheap cards

By player1605007, in X-Wing

I like playing with things you aren't likely to see in netlist tournament builds, just trying to get use out of everything.

Also occurred to me when I was browsing eBay that cards considered overpriced in points are often cheaper in pence.

So, can I have some top 5 overpriced cards? I will try to crowbar them into lists.

Ideally Scum only for me (only flying Scum is why I was browsing for card collections to round out my options). However, if you want to list for those other factions maybe someone else can try to find a fluffy, fun or surprisingly effective combo. :)

- Expose

- Blaster Turret

- Leia Organa crew

- Cluster Mines

- Proximity Mines

The majority of generic pilots, basically.

Plus Expose, Blaster Turret, Flight Instructor, Luke Skywalker, Bodyguard, R3 Astromech, et cetc etc.

Flight Instructor is probably the worst one actualy. I don't think I've ever even heard a vague rumour about it having been used.

ah i remember when blaster turret on scum ys with agro mech was a a good viable build..alas it got surpassed by the TLT and later got caught in the jumpmaster nerf...

Try and fly 5 HWK-290 generics with Blaster Turret :P

Sounds about right.....Only ever used Leia once in an epic game

OK, have tried to fit in a few of those. Will give it a run out on the 23rd. Group is very casual so this is not going to be scientific, but this is my first thoughts.

Y-Wing: · Kavil (24)

Attanni Mindlink (1)

Bomb Loadout (0)

Blaster Turret (4)

· R5-P8 (3)

Proximity Mines (3)

HWK-290: · Palob Godalhi (20)

Attanni Mindlink (1)

Blaster Turret (4)

· 4-LOM (1)

· Moldy Crow (3)

Black Market Slicer Tools (1)

JumpMaster 5000: · Manaroo (27)

· Bodyguard (2)

Flight Instructor (4)

Black Market Slicer Tools (1)

Overclocked R4 (1)

That weird middle generic that is more expensive than the cheapest generic but doesn't have an EPT.

Unless you're playing epic, in which case your giant swarm of ships firing before your opponents giant swarm of ships is actually important, since you're wiping ships off the board every turn.

No. Luke Skywalker, Bodyguard and R3 Astromech are not overpriced

I'll have a think about the mid-range Generics.

Can't see there being anything particularly interesting as it is usually a little used pilot talent and little used upgrade that I am looking for. Generics are usually only built as blockers for me, so PS the lower the better.

That is, luke crew, not luke pilot.

And I disagree entirely. Luke crew is not worth the extra two points over Gunner. Bodyguard is not really worth using *at all* and R3 astro might be worth taking if it cost 0 but is painfully overcosted at 2.

Crew!Luke* is abstractly worth 2 more points than Gunner, but I do wonder if those 2 points might not be better spent on an initiative bid? Having said that, I just realized how scary q combo Crew!Luke + Crew!Ezra + FCS on a Ghost might be.

Bodyguard is in a weird place. It would be a solid squad upgrade on, say, a Binarye pirate. But on basically any ship with a high enough PS to have an EPT slot, I don't want to spend the extra 2 points to protect one of the few ships in a list that has an even higher PS. It's the sort of card that, by its design you want to spam, but can't.

Also... I present a zero point R3 on Biggs with Integrated Astromech. Guess who will never, ever die? ;)

*As opposed to Pilot!Luke, or Puppy!Luke, my 1 year old Chow Chow. Puppy!Luke is worth an infinite amount of points, as you can see here: https://twitter.com/BransonAndLuke/status/775547439268765696 (Puppy!Luke is the one on the right)

I actually really like Hotshot Blaster and think it'd be a fair card at 2pts.

I'm pretty sure the reason it's 3pts is because one of the developers realized that at 2pts, you can run around with seven Z-95s all with Hotshots, making for a big fat swarm that can shoot its little zappers in any direction for a single round, which might have been fun.

I also want things like Cool Hand, Adrenaline Rush and Lightning Reflexes to cost 0 points in order to acknowledge that they're already charging you by eating up your valuable EPT slot.

Ugh, there are too many cards to list. Soo many times where costing 1pt less would have made the difference between "bleh" and "ooo...". The 1pt cost is the reason BMST is good and not DOA, and it would have been so easy for them to flub that one and make it cost 2.

Bodyguard and R5-P8 on contracted scout?

2 maligned cards on the galaxy's greatest generic.

Incorrect! Flight Instructor is arguably one of the best crew cards you can take! *

Not Biggs. He won't get the benefit of his R3 unit before he gets shot by my PS8+ aces.

That's the problem with R3 - if you're out-PSed its card might as well be blank unless you're a T70 who spends 3 points to get Comm Relay, and it's not *remotely* uncommon for Biggs to be out-PSed.

R5-P8 isn't a maligned card at all though? It's actually really good.

- Expose

- Leia Organa crew

- Cluster Mines

- Proximity Mines

WHats wrong with Cluster mines, with the new update (Sabine is everywhere update) they're pretty good for area denial and plinking 1 damage off aces.

Only don't try to deny Jumpmasters...those ****** can manage to SLoop into gaps anywhere! ;)

Luke crew saw a ton of use in wave 5-7. Not sure where everyone in this post was when that was happening, but fat han and Jake were very much a thing. Even taking all slots you usually had a 3 point initiative bid, and that was with Luke.

Proximity mines and cluster mines get used fairly regularly. You just need to know how to bomb, but that isn't a common skill amongst forum goers.

R5-P9 would still be the better choice for Biggs.

^Seconded. Bodyguard is trash, but R5-P8 is amazing.

Whaaaat! Expose is amazing! Assuming you didn't need the points, the slot or the action..
