The Nearly Perfect & Portable Storage Solution For MoM For Under $30

By gwatts3516, in Mansions of Madness

Being OCD has it's advantages. After scouring every source I could find I happened upon this storage solution for every piece of MoM second edition all in one portable box. It even accommodates the figures in their bases and all for under $30.

I did repurpose the yellow containers from my X-Wing Miniatures. Otherwise, everything you see is part of the Husky 22 inch Cantilever Toolbox. Just make sure if you buy it you get the one with the 27 removable containers because they also sell an identical one with only the upper containers.

I found it at Home Depot. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-22-in-Cantilever-Plastic-Organizer-with-Metal-Latches-189746/202021301

Now all you have to do is paint the outside of the box to look like an old mansion

Great... but what about the 1e minis?

I've thought about painting it to look like an old mysterious crate and adding some faux leather straps that line up with the metal hinges.

Depending on how many 1e minis there are there may be enough space to add them to the main box. If not, Husky makes a smaller non-cantilevered version that matches the big one with 8 removable bins and 1 large space. That's what I'll probably pickup when I get the expansions. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-16-1-2-in-8-Bin-Deep-Pro-Organizer-Black-211102/203329198

I just got back from a run to pick up a couple of these (I figured I might use the 2nd one for the 1e stuff, which in its entirety with expansions will require a lot more storage).

Just wanted to mention that the alternative item you mention (which is the cantilevered toolbox, while this one is the cantilevered organizer), while it is the same price, is actually taller/deeper, with the main compartment empty and not containing any divider trays. I came really close to picking up the toolbox as the secondary, since it has a lot more space, and indeed MIGHT make for an all-in-one solution for 1e+expansions+2e, though one would have to get pretty creative with bins inside it.

I'll work with the two I bought for now and may go back for the 30-dollar toolbox later if it seems the two organizers don't hold to hopes.

Thematically, this is more function over form, IMO -- lots of opaque and clear plastic, plus the metal clasps. Leather straps are a good idea that may help, though.

As it is without some creative painting it's definitely function over form but that's half the fun. I'll paint the whole thing this weekend and add the straps. Will post pics of how it turns out. I love being able to easily take it to game nights with friends. It makes setup a breeze.

My comment was meant to "paint" (no pun intended) a clear picture about what folks would be getting into if they pick this up; I was a little surprised how industrial it looked when I got to the store.

I see it as a challenge, that's all. I look forward to your ultimate success. So that I may COPY COPY COPY. :-)

(Especially since this game is so steeped in theme, I think it crucial that as much of that theme be maintained as possible)

Go 7 Gaming has an in box storage solution now. Seems to be just enough for the base box with no room for the expansions. I guess if one had a second FFG big box, two of those Go 7s would work.
