I love hearing the designers thoughts, and confirmation of the Sep 22 release date for wave 9 is very nice.
Here come my ARCs!
I see nothing wrong with an article of this nature.
You are far more patient than I WAC47 ![]()
...AND here I just made the last big-ass $200 payment on my new computer this month... WHEE-WHOooo... gonna buy a bunch of pretty STAR WARS SPACESHIPS in a couple weeks... Dam-Right!
![]()
Hmmm ...
I think I may have a problem. The number of storage bags and foam for my X-Wing ships now exceeds the number of suitcases and storage bins I own to store everything else I own.
Oh well, I may as well commiserate by buying more ships and bags !!! ![]()
Many were saying that they felt some ships from wave 9 and 10 had a distinctive Wave 2 flavor to them. That they didn't seem to be designed by the same team that designed the latest waves.
Well, now it is confirmed.
It is amazing how we can feel whether a ship has the same author or not, when it is a bunch of numbers, dial and upgrades. ![]()
I don't get the complain. For me, it was a very interesting interview with good answers, something new compated to wave announcements
"New release details? No, people wanna know how we design dials"
On the one hand, it was an interesting article and a good read. I did enjoy hearing from the Devs how they do business and keep the balance.
On the other hand... I WANT TO HEAR ABOUT NEW T-70s!
Well, it is a good, nonchalant way to acknowledge a shift in the design team. I imagine Frank is full with Armada.
Any news is welcome news, in my easy-to-please eyes ![]()

My understanding is that he also got roped into RuneWars, but I may have misunderstood that.
lol this article makes me giggle a bit.
"The A-wing does not have access to barrel roll, and therefore doesn’t have quite the same incredible repositional power as the TIE interceptor. Also, with its low attack value, it doesn’t hit nearly as hard. However, it’s cheaper and more durable, and the low pilot skill A-wings have therefore proven much stronger than the low pilot skill interceptors."
translation: "A-wings are great. Interceptors are great. Except that some of them aren't. But we didn't incorrectly price those ones that aren't great! They just naturally are different ships and that's why some are bad and some are good!"
______________
"On the JumpMaster 5000, for example, we knew we couldn’t make the Segnor's Loops speed "3" maneuvers because that would be too powerful in tandem with Unhinged Astromech."
translation: "We didn't want to make it too broken, just... broken. So we gave it an extra PS over most generics, an Elite, green turns, kept one of the Sloops white, gave it barrel roll, 9 health behind 2 agility, a turret primary... Oh, did we mention the torps and Salvaged Astromech combo yet?"
______________
"When we designed the Protectorate Starfighter, we wanted to supply a third interceptor-type ship that had its own identity and feeling."
translation: "So we wanted the Fang fighter to fly different. But let's be real- all we are going to see is Fenn Rau with PTL flying as much like Soontir as possible."
______________
"There’s no magic formula for pricing an X-Wing ship."
translation: "We are not willing to pay someone who could use proper math to create a pricing formula for X-wing which would assure ships are not over or under priced, because it is a great way to allow us to revisit ships and make players purchase more X-wing ships."
______________
"So the dial definitely factors into things. The Protectorate Starfighter’s Zealous Recruit has one less shield and pilot skill than the Cartel Marauder Kihraxz, but a better dial and more actions, so they wound up costing the same."

Also, don't mind that we didn't even mention that the Zealous Recruit has one more agility as well. Because that obviously isn't worth noting."

Love these guys, but oy... I wish this was a little more real. Like, why make the comparison of the Fang and the K fighter? Why not say, "The K fighter is overcosted, so it's a good example of us failing to properly cost the ships dial." Instead of comparing it to a new release it really doesn't compare to at all?
"New release details? No, people wanna know how we design dials"
Exactly! Hearing the design team talk about under discussed aspects of this game is always interesting.

I bet you're a lot of fun at parties...
My only hope is that the U-Wing has white hard two's. Otherwise, I'll be pretty sad.
wow
Just me - i hope - but what a ***tty article.
deisgners trying to justify costings...
"ohh people thought lambda would be a beast like 5 waves ago based on raw stats only"

Based on what I saw in Kriss' interview he seemed to be happy working on RW.

Did you try to read and understand the article, or just try to find something to complain about? It very clearly states that people didn't know the dial at the time, so the stats made them question the point cost. Then they revealed the dial and people got the ships on the table and, oh look, it flies like a brick. And, you'll notice, there isn't really anything wrong with the Shuttle's cost (Jendon and Kagi just have less-than-desirable abilities).
But, sure, go with, "LOOK AT ME I'M COMPLAINING ON THE INTERNET!"

Yeah, it's just you. I like hearing about how the ships come to fruition.
My only hope is that the U-Wing has white hard two's. Otherwise, I'll be pretty sad.
The Lambda does really well with a similar set up stats-wise, and that's even without the ability to just turn around when you want. No white hard 2s would be a little sad, but I don't think it would ruin the ship.
You are far more patient than I WAC47
Nah, I'm just too impatient for Wave 9's release to think about HotR yet ![]()

It kinda will
The U has the potential to be a surprisingly decent dice mod boat with
Jan Rey and fcs
That's focus and evade (on 2 agi with title) AND tl plus the support Jan offers other ships
No white turns would **** that right up, though and relegate it to support only basically
Ie jank
Pray for a self sufficient dial and a flexible self sufficient ship that can see use in many lists rather than just a select, janky few
I sincerely believe that many of the denizens on this forum would loudly complain if an article came out that stated "We're giving you EVERYTHING you demand!!" I mean seriously. Do you flipping need content that badly that a design article makes you butt hurt? Jesus, it is zero...and I mean ZERO wonder this forum has the reputation it deserves.
