One other thing I wanted to add for the other non-redundant use for Mon Karren we came up with: the Battle Cruiser (4 red dice) with Spinal Armament (up to 5) becomes more threatening against lighter ships at long range when they can't Evade+Redirect or Evade+Brace. Once the Dual Turbolasers are available you can make your red-only rolls more consistent as well. The benefits there largely disappear once you get into medium range (where your blue dice up the odds of getting an Accuracy and the Evade defense tokens become less useful), so that kind of build is specialized towards long-ranged combat. Whether it's worth it exactly I leave up to the reader, as I'm intrigued but not convinced just yet. You can get very similar results from using an Intel Officer (who has more flexible uses at all ranges), but perhaps your Liberty MC80's officer chair is already taken?

I think Snipafist's last sentence there nails the utility of MK - if you want a different officer other than Int.Officer, but still want to be locking down tokens, go MK.

Other than that MK is 8 pts of "meh.." in my very humble opinion

Now I'm wondering about the merit of a lean and mean MK flanked by Home One and Defiance. They keep MKs flanks protected, and when something tries jousting them the flanking MCs turn outward, causing the whole formation to open like a flower and destroy whatever is inside.

That's acceptable, though. Put a Gunnery Team on the MK and run 4 A-Wings.

I tried it, and it fell to a dedicated bomb force while fast carriers kited the speed 2 MC's. Not to say that it work in some cases, but being especially weak to bombers is a bad place to be in wave 4. No longer can you spike straight to an ISD or AFII and kill the carrier, its 8 little gozantis all going different directions.
