Imp Aces or Brobots

By Jazy Sweeney, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi Guys,

A group of us are going to do a series of Tournaments the first on in a couple of weeks and each will also provide seeding for the later tournaments and I have narrowed my choice down to a couple of list and are wondering if any one can help with my choice and any recommendations would be welcome as we would normally play for fun except in Tournaments as we run quit a few through our local gaming club. Here are the lists:

Imp Aces

The Inquisitor - 25

Adaptability - 0

Tie/V1 - 1

Tomax Bren - 24

Crack Shot - 1

Extra Munitions - 2

Proton Torpedoes - 4

Concussion Missile- 4

Guidance Chips - 0

Maarek Stele - 35

Marksmanship - 3

Tie/x7 - -2

Total - 97 Points

Brobots

IG-88C - 36

Daredevil - 3

Accuracy Corrector - 3

Autoblaster - 5

Inertial Dampeners - 1

IG-2000 - 0

Autothrusters - 2

IG-88D - 36

Daredevil - 3

Accuracy Corrector - 3

Autoblaster - 5

Inertial Dampeners - 1

IG-2000 - 0

Autothrusters - 2

Total - 100 Points

Here are my thoughts on these lists:

Imp Aces

Tomax Bren is not bad in an aces list because he is so scary, the opponent will not ignore him (and so he acts as a pseudo-Biggs). You really want to capitalize on that fact by making your other two ships as hard-hitting as possible. Currently, your inquisitor and Maarek build do not accomplish that.

My suggestion is:

Tomax Bren w/ crack shot, plasma torp + guidance chips = 30

Inquisitor w/ push the limit, V-1 title + thrusters = 31

Maarek Stele w/ marksmanship (predator is actually better, imho), TIE/D title + ion cannon = 41

100

Now you have a list that can really punish your opponent for focussing on any one of these ships. However, you REALLY want your opponent to go after Bren first. With marksmanship, Stele can be quite vulnerable to return fire (whereas predator protects him better because he can save focus for defense). Regardless, all 3 of these ships can put on a world of hurt...

Dual IGs

Autoblaster is terrible, even WITH accuracy corrector! Autoblaster is totally a trap cannon choice and should not be taken except in some extreme cases. There are one or two very odd builds where it could work, but not on IG88.

You are spending 8 points for 2 guaranteed damage at range 1. But, you can do that already! Just by rolling 4 attack dice! Sure its not 'guaranteed' damage, but 9/10 times, you will deal 2 damage to most enemies (sometimes more, sometimes even getting a crit or two!). And best of all, that costs you 0 points!

Besides, Aggressors generally HATE range 1 and prefer to engage at longer ranges when possible. By taking this thing, its just going to encourage you to get into range 1 where your ships will get torn a part by return fire and removed from the table too quickly to win you games.

I am also not a fan of 'mirror' IG builds. The Aggressor is particularly weak against high PS arc-dodgers and your list does not give you any reliable means to deal with them (despite what you may think about autoblaster----because positional aces will NOT engage you at range 1 unless you can block them and force it, but then again, you'd be better off using your primary 4 dice attack in that situation because they will be actionless and unlikely to roll more than one evade).

When Wave 9 releases, I believe this will be the 'best' dual IG build for the current meta:

B w/ PTL, adv. sensors, 'mangler', blackmarket slicer tools (wave 9), IG-2000 + thrusters = 49

C w/ PTL, adv. sensors, HLC, IG-2000 + thrusters = 51

100

However, its not easy to use PTL + advanced sensors well. You have to learn to fly with the green moves as often as possible to end the turn with no stress and two tokens. It takes getting used to and learning when its actually safe to end the turn stressed (usually not often, but mainly only with the IG that's not getting shot at).

An easier to fly IG list that can still be quite scary is:

B w/ crack shot, FCS, 'mangler', slicer tools (wave 9), ion bomb, IG-2000 + thrusters = 48

C w/ predator, adv. sensors, HLC, slicer tools (wave 9), IG-2000 + thrusters = 52

thank you for the reply I will be trying out your suggested changes tonight and will let you know how it goes also I have faced the duel IG's a few times but never flown then yet as they are a recent addition so I not very familiar with them my main lists are normally Rebels and mainly X-Wings so it will be fun to see how I do with Imps and Scum.

the IG's are alright but I'm gonna stick with Imps as I much preferred how the preformed
