Hi All,
On Sep 8th at the Fantasy Flight Game Center, the second in e small format tournaments was held. These are 200 pt 3 round affairs with the same mission for all the games. This second installment like the first was a might great time and it being on a weeknight, getting in 3 rounds makes for slightly late night but with approx 1 hour rounds it totally works. Once again a huge thank you to Ian Cross for putting it all together.
The rules this time were :
"ESCAPE PODS"
NO ADMIRAL
3x3 play area
200 points
Up to 1/2 of your fleet (100 points) may be squadrons.
Engineering points may not be used to discard damage cards from ships. (Station still repairs, and of course those special cards that discard a dmg card still work)
Before placing obstacles, place the station in the center of the board, then place obstacles following normal placement rules.
As a special rule: When a ship takes a damage card, it must place a victory token within distance 1 of itself. At the end of each round, both players, starting with the first player, may move each victory token belonging to them.
If first player, tokens may be moved to within distance 1 of their current location.
If second player, tokens may be moved to within distance 1-2 of their current location.
A victory token may be placed overlapping an obstacle, but may not be placed overlapping a ship, squadron, or another victory token.
After executing a maneuver, if a ship overlaps one or more victory tokens, the ship's owner may pick up one or more victory tokens on that ship's card.
At the end of the game, each player will score 10 points for each of their opponent's victory tokens that are on a ship card belonging to a ship that has not been destroyed. Each player will score 10 points for each of their own victory tokens that are at distance 1-2 of the station.
-----------------
After the first round, it was ruled that the victory tokens needed to be actually on the station to count.
We had 12 IIRC this time. Given it was the week of labor day and for some the first day back to school, not a bad turn out at all. The fleets fielded were varied from a dual VSD with no squadrons, a fully kited out MC30 with a GR75 and Neb with no squadrons, to squadron heavy. The fully kitted out MC30, GR75 and Neb with no squadrons was the over all winner.
So for those folks that want to promote a weeknight tournament, give some thought to the 200 pt format and potential for special rules. I think you'll be glad you did!
