Outryder Cup ... how about a Star Wars Triathlon?

By Hawkstrike, in X-Wing

So I've been listening to the NOVA Squadron podcast about the Outryder Cup and it sounds like a good event.

Got me thinking ... what about a triathlon event for the three Star Wars miniatures games, where you play rounds of X-Wing, Armada, and Imperial Assault?

You could take a nod from the System Open and organize into pods of four, which gives three rounds -- randomly drawn, one game per round. Combine winners from each pod into groups of four until you reach final four.

Alternately, do a team game where each team has to field X-wing, Armada, and IA players ... though this doesn't require anyone to be individual "triathletes".

I doubt there would be a huge number of players in that. Every game of those is expensive on its own, let alone all three.

Edit: Don't take me wrong, I would love to do it, but I myself have only a good collection of XWing. I'm planning slowly to get to either Armada or IA but can't choose. And wave 9 is coming out really soon...

There have been a few discussions about doing something like that in our area, but I think that OutRyder will remain Xwing only for now.

We may put something together that ties in all 3 games, but IA and Armada may need to grow their player bases a little more before proper teams could be fielded.

Leaving lurk mode temporarily to say all the stories are true, it is an awesome tourney from what I've heard. Playgroup I was a part of was the Columbus team. They cool peeps.

There will be just a few players. Better make a triathlon where you just need to play one of the games.

For example: X-wing triathlon

Classic 100 point match

Other game system

Other game system

Or triathlon where you have to play tournaments with all 3 factions, respectively. At the end, highest points and MoV wins

I do find it funny to attempt to combine the 3 radically different games in any way

They all play so vastly differently from one another
