Rules for Running Performances

By Ian2400, in Game Masters

My newest group wants to be the full crew for a touring band of sorts. I took some inspiration from a lot of different sources and made some rules for running performance encounters that involves everyone: technical crew, security, and the performers. I'm still working on some details, but I have enough done that I figured I'd solicit feedback. Any additional ideas for tweaks are welcome!

That's a nice presentation! Some thoughts:

  • In Star Wars RPG money, 2000 credit base pay without putting your neck on the line is a heck of a lot of money. I would consider adjusting base pay by venue with Outer Rim cantinas as low paying gigs (500 credits) and Core world clubs are high paying gigs (2000 credits).
  • It's okay to have some of these performances go off without a hitch. If every performance turns into a horror-show, the process becomes darkly comedic rather than adventurous.
  • A terror attack is a really emotionally heavy outcome, even for a major event. I would swap that with a drunken riot.
  • I would suggest the possibility of an encounter with bootleggers, recording executives, and/or groupies.

Yeah, I think I may have tailored these too much to my group, who started in a situation where they'd be getting good money for shows. They are also using the show as a front for running guns, hence being hit by a rival group (ie gang) as a major idea. I need to spend more time fleshing out the major/minor ideas section in general for sure. Love the idea of recording executives, potential contact, and groupies as possible results of advantage/triumph. Speaking of which, all of these options only kick off with threat/despair, so certainly some shows will go off without a hitch, just only if they don't roll threat/despair! :)
